Fighter Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I simply cannot play an fps game on a gamepad.... I have seen people do it. It's doable. Of course it is. I just have no desire to. I only hope by the time PC gaming really does die (if it's going that way) there will be some better way to play fps other than a gamepad.

Morgoth Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 PC gaming won't die as long as there's Blizzard or Valve around. Rain makes everything better.
Masterfade Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 PC gaming won't die, it'll just become overall more and more casual. The future of PC gaming is FarmVille. More on MW2 PC, D2D, Impulse and GamersGate are boycotting MW2 over its integration with SteamWorks: http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25944
entrerix Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 the future of pc gaming is probably about what it is now. lots of mmos and strategy games and casual stuff. i buy just as many pc games as i did ten years ago, maybe more. so it doesnt seem to be any worse off, its just that console gaming exploded while pc gaming kept on trucking and someone decided that means pc gaming is in its death spiral when blizzard says that starcraft 3/diablo 4 will be on consoles only, and valve says half life 3 will be console only then i'll believe that pc gaming is dead, until then its still got the best franchises: civ, diablo, starcraft, half life (maybe someday a proper fallout sequel or homeworld sequel or myth sequel) if i couldnt play games on my console anymore all i'd really be losing is some cool japanese stuff like zelda and final fantasy, some platformers too maybe? gears of war/halo/cod etc all would be better on pc i play my xbox and my pc about equally, but i truly believe that pc gaming is superior. xbox is just far more casual, which can be nice sometimes certainly, and i like it for games like fifa or offline splitscreen, but thats about it. Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.
Purkake Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 There will always be crazy Eastern European or Indie developers who keep making weird and buggy games.
alanschu Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Heh, the IGN article is interesting. Call it for what it is: You don't want to release Modern Warfare 2 on Direct2Drive because you don't want to have your customers see the Steam store and essentially help advertise for Steam. Declaring it a Trojan Horse is a red herring, and could pose risks of libel accusations. At least GamersGate was honest enough to state why they won't be supporting it.
Purkake Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Ars Technica has an article about MW2 as well.
WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Maximum players capped at 9v9. Requires Steam. Unavailable on anything else than Steam. No dedicated server support. Bigger price (I think). ... I can't wait to see the PC sales. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
Purkake Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) Some internet fanboys even made a crude "list": It's still missing "doesn't kick puppies" - "kicks puppies" Edited November 7, 2009 by Purkake
alanschu Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Haha, I like the "average ping > 100ms" Because they have a lot of data supporting that Of course, the only person I plan on playing multiplayer with is my friend who lives nearby, and we always get about 30 ping despite always connecting to Listen servers Having said that, their decisions are rather odd (IW that is). Unavailable on anything else than Steam. I'd be surprised if the game didn't exist at retail.
Masterfade Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Another interesting read on MW2, this time Activision managed to track down a game pirate and have him arrested by the police: http://venturebeat.com/2009/11/06/how-inve...-2-cyber-thief/

In any case, it's still pretty clear Activision is screwing over the PC version. Edited November 7, 2009 by WILL THE ALMIGHTY "Alright, I've been thinking.
