Hurlshort
Does NMA send out missionaries from door-to-door, preaching the gospel of Fallout 3 Hate? That's actually a pretty good summary of what happened on these forums after Obsidian announce FO:NV

Gizmo
NMA does not send out emissaries (except to press demos ) If anything, NMA members are interested in all things fallout, and gravitate anywhere that talks about it. Its expected that opinions will clash, but its not some planned agenda. Edited August 10, 2009 by Gizmo

It may indeed be a good summary of what happened here (I don't know)... but it was not deliberate action. I dunno if most here know... but when I mentioned Press demo emissaries, it was reference to BN's exploits a few years ago, when he went personally [with valid credentials] to a Bethesda press demo, to get a first look at Fallout3. Afterward there was a photo of him taken, hand over brow, and kinda depressed looking. Edited August 10, 2009 by Gizmo

Purkake
So the bottom line is that even if you despise FO3 from the very bottom of you heart, there is no need to bring it up it every time it is mentioned here. I was very disappointed with Bioshock, but I got on with my life, even though a lot of people see it as the best thing since sliced bread. I take it that you played the hell out of System shock, then System shock 2; Greatly anticipated Bioshock as a game of the same vein (not same vain), and felt really let down by it and it's forecast future. *Not so much that it was not fun ('cuz it was)... just that it was a heaping mound of untapped potential ~wasted (and shouldn't have been). **Classic short sightedness. Gizmo
I bought the hype and set my expectations too high.IMO the one that shovels the hype should be on the hook for it, and setting expectation within the bounds of what's possible ~is not setting too high. ~They just let us down. *They didn't let everyone down, just those that expected significant game improvements. Purkake
Nope, there's no point in blaming anyone but myself. Ken Levine made the game he wanted and achieved both critical and financial success, the game didn't fail, my expectations were too high. I did learn my lesson, though. Brian Fargo created a new "the Bard's Tale" game... since he'd only acquired the name itself... It could not be a sequel except in name only. The next game is Wasteland 2, this time I truly hope for a spot on sequel.
213374U
If you want in depth explanations read the NMA article. I finished the game and exorcised it from my hard disk a long time ago.Well, some honesty at last. You simply dislike FO3 for whatever reasons, but can't be arsed to make actual arguments with concrete comparisons and examples outside of "FO3 fails unlike game x" and "Game z is actually much better than FO3 at doing y". Further, you are apparently utterly lost in the fundamental difference between opinion and fact. And here I am wasting my time with you. Wake me up when you are willing to do your own thinking instead of being a broken record for others. - When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast. Wake me up when you are willing to do your own thinking instead of being a broken record for others. Everything I said was quite obvious to anyone who actually played all those games, writing an essay to appease a noob or an argumentative, offensive "elitist" is not really my thing. I don't see the point of proving that Baldur's Gate has a better plot or Gothic a better gameworld. If you need that proven, you're either a total beginner or deluded or perhaps stupid. For me, this is fact - for you opinion, satisfied? Especially when someone already wrote Fallout 3's eulogy in a reasonable and well thought out article, that expressed many of my own views in the process. It's not even funny anymore. You don't need to write any essays. Simply make your arguments... well, arguments instead of hammering us over the head over and over with the same blatantly unsupported or outright false claims in the vein of "Unlike Torment, FO3 smells very bad indeed!". You know, the way I've been doing? The way Gizmo does? Otherwise, you're not here to debate or exchange opinions with others, no sirree. Your intent is to pontificate. You are on an ideological crusade to convert us poor misguided fools to your very own blend of truth. And trust me bub, I've seen far better than you try. If you need that proven, you're either a total beginner or deluded or perhaps stupid.Really now? And I'm the "argumentative, offensive elitist", you say? Grow up, sonny. edit: I'm thinking... what's wrong with being a total beginner? I mean, sure, not all of us can be RPGmasters, but really, everyone needs to start somewhere, aye? Lexx
This thread is now 8 pages long. Discussions about FOnline ended on page two. This is funny in a very... special way. And it isn't even really funny. In fact it is not in any kind of way funny. Is there no Fallout 3 thread or so in this Forum? It looks like it could be fun, but balancing a game for MP is always hard. I wonder how they will manage to make it fun to play with several people without making solo play completely impossible. I wonder how they will manage to make it fun to play with several people without making solo play completely impossible. Among other things. You need to keep in mind, that the FOnline: 2238 release is still a alpha release. We are working hard on adding as much stuff as possible until the 15. (well, at the moment we are only fixing bugs) but even then the game will be still in early stage. Our target for the open test is to balance everything: Weapons, encounter, etc. etc. So I think especially in the beginning some parts of the game will be very unbalanced. But heh... thats why it's a open test. FOnline: The Life After on the other side is already a lot more complete in quests, dialogues and so on because the russian dev team is working on it some more years. Only problem here: Mostly no english language support. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die." 213374U
Since you are obviously involved with the project, what can you tell us about new stuff added to the game? It does use the graphical assets from FO2 but how much new stuff are you adding in? Graphically the game was fine for its time, but for a MP game, a bit more variety would be nice. Do we get to use different avatars? Does every guy in metal armor look exactly the same as the next one? What about races? Can we play a super mutant or a ghoul? Deathclaw? And what's the gameplay going to revolve around? I have no interest in a game that forces (or encourages) players to spend most of their time farming moisture, so to speak. About parties. Is there a party system? Can you have people moving together around the world map? If so, who decides where to go? How are encounters with other parties handled? You wanted FOnline discussion, hope you're still up for it!
