SERIOUSLY, WHO THE **** WANTS AVP 3?!

There are times when you cease to believe in humanity -_-

"Well, overkill is my middle name. And my last name. And all of my other names as well!"

Sega, I guess.

They obviously believe its a money maker.

Not my money, though. My money is for Obsidian's alien crpg.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

Yeah, this sounds like the same marketing genius that thinks: "Hey, let's make a SHADOWRUN game! But here's the catch: instead of doing something silly like incorporating RPG elements or even a real story, we'll have it play like Battlefield 1942! Success!"

The Aliens RPG and Colonial Marines were two of the three (Mass Effect 2 being #3) games I was looking forward to most down the road, and now its doubtful either will see the light of day. Of Aliens versus Predator 3, the only line that properly captures my interest in the game comes from Master Shake:

"Gee, thanks. It's the best gift I could have never wanted."

I certainly do. AvP 1 and 2 were some of the most fun games I've ever played, they sold well, and they got good reviews.

I'm sorry that you didn't like them. That's too bad. :)

Ok, so obviously there's someone.

But I'm still MAD AS HELL!

First AvP3 screenshot released! *cough* *cough*

I officially hate this game.

The game was announced recently, but it seems they worked for quite a while on AVP3.

Internet conspiracy theory mode on: Maybe they reused assets from Colonial Marines!

Game looks ok, hope it will deliver, but I kinda think CM might be ditched for AVP3. I mean CM seemed like AVP's Marine Campaign. Maybe they ditched it(CM) for a bigger game with an established fanbase. Besides I wanna play as an Alien.

Colonial Marines is still in production, mate. It's due for release shortly.

Last I heard of Colonial Marines was that it's been put on hold and the team moved to Borderlands. AVP3 isn't due until sometime in 2010, and Sega plans for it to be the first Aliens game to be released, so CM can't possibly be due for release shortly.

Oh what the ****? Last I heard, Sega was saying "Colonial Marines is on track for release" even in the midst of the Aliens RPG fiasco.

**** Sega.

Remember they can't put the game on hold like that forever. They will lose money.

I'm gonna prepare a second coffin, this time for Colonial Marines.

I don't really wanna HOPE for the game to be released for a couple of years and then be kicked in the face by reality.

With any luck we'll have a Machete vs. Predator game sometime in the future.

I'd buy that for a dollar.

Me too.

Yeah CM is on ice (confirmed), and the team has moved on to Borderlands. But AvP3 really looks great so that will be a nice replacement.

well since rebellion is involved and AVP 1 (AVP 2 was done by Monolith) was not that great...and their track record since then has not been the greatest

this is a list of recent games from their wikipedia entry

# Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs. Death (2003, PC, GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox)

# Gunfighter II: Revenge of Jesse James (2003, PlayStation 2)

# Iron Storm (2004, PS2, PC)

# Sniper Elite (2005, PC, PlayStation 2 and Xbox)

# Delta Force: Black Hawk Down (2005, PlayStation 2)

# James Bond: From Russia with Love (2006 PSP)

# Dead to Rights: Reckoning (2006, PSP)

# GUN Showdown (2006, PSP)

# Rogue Trooper (2006, PC, Xbox and PS2)

# Miami Vice (2006, PSP)

# Delta Force: Black Hawk Down: Team Sabre (2006, PlayStation 2)

# Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron (2007, PSP)

# Free Running (2007, PlayStation 2, PSP)

# Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007, PSP)

# The Simpsons Game (2007, PlayStation 2, PSP, Wii)

# Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (video game) (2007, PSP)

# Call of Duty: World at War (Final Fronts) (2008, PS2)

# Shellshock 2: Blood Trails (2009, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC)

notice that their only next gen title so far is shellshock 2, which from all the review is a total POS....

so no I am not excited at all about AVP 3 - if Monolith or Gearbox was perhaps doing it

F**K Sega...really they just don't get it - it's all about the $$ - I recently bought Empire Total War, and while it is a great game you can tell Sega pushed it out the door too early, since it is bug riddled and feature incomplete (mulitplayer is AWOL - to be released as a patch later)

man I wish EA would come and offer then big $$ to buy the Aliens license off them --- then we'd get the RPG, Colonial Marines and a good AVP FPS

It is interesting they explicitly state "Sadly the Obsidian Aliens RPG was cancelled" as a fact, when it has not been officially announced. Professional Gaming journalism FTW.

But yea I know SHUT UP!! IT IS ALREADY CANCELED!

Anyways, back to crying myself to sleep.

Hmmm CM and AvP seem to be quite similiar and if that will be the case when SEGA finally releases those games, I'll probably buy AvP3(unless it's total ****e).

Roll over, gonna join you.v ;(

  • 1 month later...

There was a Polish gaming magazine where a SEGA representative stated:

AvP publisher, Sega, announced two other alien tiles a while ago - one was shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines made by Brothers in Arms Creators, that should allow us to lead a group of brave warriors fighting insectoid extraterrestrials. Second - an project known as Aliens RPG - the game about which we don't know anything (haven't seen even a single screenshot). We thought both were cancelled, but Gemma Willocks from Sega told us: "I can't tell anything specific for now but I can assure you both games are still being made and production goes well.

Translation provided by Jim Cojones at the codex (With screenshot of said article).

Though I'll put my Rose Colored Glasses on, and assume it will be back into production, but just later... or next year, by Obsidian.

:HOPE:

But how many teams does Obsidian have? Why did they pull Josh out of Aliens in the middle of development? My guess is Crucible is being developed by another studio now.

You even quoted me that time lol

This was said 100 times and the only possible reply is not because this game is using exclusive Obsidian Tech so it cannot be ported to any other studio. Also go figure, ACM was said to come a year after AVP3, If the rpg is still alive I think it's normal that Obsidian or Sega wait till they finish their actual projects.

Also I asked once how many big projects can they handle at time, the answer was 4.

You just didn't provide the exact working for that polish article ikarop.

I don't read Polish, so seeing just that picture didn't do me any good. :p

What I said in may is just what the article said, quoting the magazine is pointless since nobody here knows polish like you said, even the quote you provided could be false if that your point lol

Also I provided a confirmation about the article being true and not made up by the magazine, if that didn't make you any good buy glasses.
