Today is the day that the conficker 2.0 worm is supposed to hit. Hubby's spent all week trying to prepare for it, for some customers, just in case.

I wondered if it was a mean April Fools hacker joke to panic people (and the virus would do something relatively harmless like 'hahaha'), but apparently not. :/

Sometimes I wonder if these high profile security threats are made and released by the anti virus companies to boost their sales.

That would make an excellent conspiracy theory.

My favorite was the news story that Obama was ordering Chevy and Dodge out of NASCAR. When I first heard it I actually believed it because it would not even be the most insane thing he's done since taking office.

Win!

In 7th grade, I teach the students how Chuck Norris took down the Roman Empire, so it is good that you are starting early on this curriculum.

Nothing will happen. Conficker has had multiple activation dates before (since February) and they've all involved simply updating the worm to better evade anti-virus companies. Even though it was activated again today, many of the computers in its net won't actually receive the update until it propagates to them days or weeks later.

Think of it as more of a bot net than a virus.

So is the CADIE link on Google their April Fools? I can't be bothered looking it all up, but the website and videos certainly don't look ... professional.
