Guard Dog Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 The ending to DS9 wasn't terribly well thought out either. "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Hiro Protagonist Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Well, the Lost writers decided on the ending somewhere near the 3rd season, so there is still hope. Making it up as you go is pretty much the worst way to go for a series, what a waste. What was RDM thinking? They always knew how the ending would happen since the first season with Lost. By the third season they had the plot outlined for the next 48 episodes with all the writers.
Hiro Protagonist Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I can't go back and watch Galactica again without remembering how it is all explained, that's what annoys me the most. I feel the same. Other shows like Babylon 5 had terrific endings and I would have preferred Guard Dog's suggestion ending the series at the ruined earth than the one we got.
Gorgon Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) I thought all the double headers were good, except the finale. Consider the 4 episodes of dicking around leading up to it. Maybe it's the time constraints, but the writers didn't seem to have a clue how to build tension, everything seemed contrived. Razor, the orginal pilot, pegasus+ ressurection ship, the one where they escaped New Caprica, those were the reasons I kept watching. As for the big ball and chain that was the plot, I always suspected that it might drag the last season down, I was no more disappointed than I expected to be. CoM_Solaufein Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Seeing how lame the very end of the last episode was, I would have been satisfied that the last episode in season 4 where they found nuked out Earth to be the end. Slowtrain Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 I think I'd have liked it better had the show ended with them finding the ruined "earth". There was a certain irony to that. Artisticly it would have reminded of Old Man and the Sea. To come all that way with nothing to show in the end. That would have worked, I guess. I really hope that the LOST people are seeing this and making their ending satisfying. They don't even need to tie up every little bit, it just has to make sense within the world that they have created. Tgats the problem when you make it up as you go. You end up painting yourself into a corner with no good way out. Its more a problem when you just write things to shock people and then have to figure out how to get out of what you just wrote. What they did to Starbuck was total crap. It comes across as the writers playing with themselves. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
ouiouiwewe Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 It's actually possible to explain everything cleanly, especially if they charted out Season 4 in an organized manner. There are many fan-speculated plots prior to the ending that actually sounded very good. Perhaps we can only blame the writers and RDM for having a mediocre level of inspiration and imagination after all this? Suffice to say, I would've much preferred the scenario with Ellen being a hidden villain who planted the Music, Lion Head Nebular beacon, and such. Sort of like a Darth Trayas type of villain (which is about the only thing I liked about KOTOR2) but less obvious.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the last season, up until they jumped to earth in the finale. After that it was poo. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
Hiro Protagonist Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Just watched Battlestar Galactica - The Plan. It's good to see how everything started and where all the major characters were before and after the Cylons attacked and how those characters positioned themselves in the series. It was also good how they brushed over different episodes of the series and tied up a lot of loose ends. It also puts a different view on things, especially certain characters like Sharon valerii (Boomer). It's like they had two camera units filming the series and kept the film of the second camera unit of the Cylons viewpoint away until now. Watching the series again in the veiwpoint of the cylons was really interesting. Great Stuff.
Humodour Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Hmm. I'm fairly over BSG but I might try it.
Hiro Protagonist Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I quite enjoyed it. My only gripe is that it wasn't long enough. Hopefully, they'll do another BSG movie to further tie up more loose ends. Dean Stockwell's character Cavill is one cold hearted killer. Really showed the true side of him in this movie.
Purkake Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 That was pretty interesting. I liked the Galactica stuff, but other than the other Cavil stuff, the Caprica stuff was pretty lame. It was interesting to see the Cavil-that-could-have-been, Dean Stockwell is still an awesome actor. It's also pretty funny that all of the cylons hidden in the fleet failed miserably and apparently the whole Simon line is a bunch of sourpusses. While it was interesting to see the other perspective, the whole thing still screamed of desperate plot hole filling and retconning. It's like RDM was going "Look! We were planning this all along. Did you see how he had that knowing look in his eye? Yeah, he was a cylon all along, honest." Also, I agree that it felt like a two-parter. They didn't show any of the Pegasus or New Caprica stuff.
Hiro Protagonist Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Even though we see this from the viewpoint of the Cylons (and yeah, I thought it was funny that all of the cylons hidden in the fleet failed miserably), I would have liked to have seen more of the Origin of the Cylons. I wanted to see the Cylon homeworld or homeworlds. How they evolved. Where the original five came from (it was touched on in the series) and their story. The original five's motivations. Why the Cylons chose to attack, and why now. I want to learn the Cylon choices and motivations and psychology. etc. Maybe the new series Caprica will address some of this?
Purkake Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 They don't really have the sets or resources to do that, I guess. The origins part was really vague and blurry, I don't think RDM ever meant it to be anything other than a backstory.
