Dollhouse

Playing a robot for so long ought to prepare her for the acting skill, or lack of same, required.

Honestly there are only 2 or 3 people who aren't continuously bad. The black handler, the owner/operator, and whatshisface from firefly. The rest make do mostly by being young and beautiful.

If you had actually read the quote, you would know that Whedon doesn't want her to play an active because that would be too much like her other roles. I don't think Summer is a bad actress, she did pretty well in the Terminator episode where she played a normal girl.

That doesn't change my statement now does it. I did read it.

Sorry, I though you were referring to the similarities between playing a robot and an active. I'm looking forward to a talky Summer Glau.

I wouldn't agree with that. I'd say most of the people playing dolls are fairly good as well. It's one of the best things about Whedon's shows. Regardless of whether they're good shows, they're all pretty well cast. I'd say the casting is probably Firefly's biggest strength, for example, even if the courtesan chick was a bit incompetent.

Sheesh, it's just a promo picture.

Going by what I've heard from the reviews season 2 will kick major ass, especially episode 2.

They have also brought in a ton of new actors including Jamie Bamber(Apollo from Battlestar), Michael Hogan(Colonel Tigh from Battlestar), Alexis Denisof(Wesley from Angel), Summer Glau(Firefly and Sarah Connor Chronicles) and of course the lovely Felicia Day who will (presumably) be in future "Epitaph" episodes.

Haven't seen much of it, don't want to see anymore. I did watch "glitches" of the series (supposedly the highlights) and was bored beyond tears- and appalled that the actors (well, at least most of them) were actually collecting pay checks for this unbelievable garbage! I have read more than I ever wanted to know about the series here, but it's like staring at a car crash as you drive by, you just can't look away. It is so unbelievably horrible, I don't think even Summer Glau could save it! I do like to be entertained when I watch television, but I really don't care to have to suspend all reason, belief and sanity-- at least all at the same time!

And, the earlier comments about the lead actress are true- she does have a certain "reputation" since early on in her high school years. She used to be one of the "hangers-on" on the fringes of the "it-girl" crowd in the big city and was always doing something to get noticed by anyone who would give her a moment of attention. She also swore she would do whatever it takes to "be somebody", "no matter what"- looks like she's managed to hit the right casting couch because she certainly has no more skill now than she did in those days! Glad to see she still has the right people to make her look good because her acting is as awful as ever! Joss must have really been taken with this one (gee, I wonder what she did to impress him? And, did the impressing extend to his brother, as well?) because she certainly did not get the job due to her skill or abilities as an actress (believable or otherwise)!

The future has not been written...

There is no fate but what we make for ourselves...

I wish that I could believe that...

I should feel safe, but I don't...

...So I live off the grid-- No phone, no address... No one and nothing can find me...

I've erased all connections to the past...

But as hard as I try, I can't erase my dreams... my nightmares...

I feel the weight of the future bearing down on me... a future I don't want...

So I keep running as fast as I can...

Anywhere... Nowhere...

Wait, wasn't Battlestar's Apollo an actor to rival Dushku's prowess in acting incompetence?

Proof or it didn't happen. What's the poiunt of personal attacks on someone on the internet because they 'suck' at acting?

Anyways, Dishku is no acting champion but she's nowhere as bad as some claim.

I don't remember him being especially bad. He is very popular with the ladies, though, and will probably bring in a bunch more viewers.

@Terminatrix: It's not for everyone, don't sweat it.

I don't know that show, but I can recognise that girl from somewhere and from a quick glance at the wikipedia I see a lot of other actors from previous Josh Whedon shows.. But there is too much text for me to read it. So, are there any vampire slayers and vampires with a soul in that dollhouse? :brows:

Too much text?

There's Wesley, Fred and Faith from Angel and a little Felicia Day, later on we might get some Summer Glau as well.

Really? Why? Because you say so? And, exactly what "proof" must I offer up to satisfy your personal requirements that I am speaking the truth? Do you doubt the veracity of everyone who posts something that you do not like? Or, are you selective in whom you call a liar, making me lucky enough to be singled out for this honour? Would you like a recorded conversation-- or a signed confession, perhaps? Because I am sure that Eliza would not be stupid enough to put it in writing (while she may be dumb and untalented, I doubt that she's stupid!)! And, exactly what would I have to gain by making sh** up about Eliza-- or anyone else, for that matter?

I couldn't help but notice that you did not accuse Rhomal of lying when he said

"I dated a girl here in boston whos roommate went to highschool with eliza (eliza was a few grades higher) and knew her. She told me she was pretty cool to her and most other ppl but she had a rep of being the school s*ut. Apparently she made her way around the high school guys at the time").
I was, in fact, corroborating this comment with personal knowledge, having overheard the same type of comments numerous times! The girl considered it a "game" to "take" someone else's boyfriend, especially if it might promote her much desired career (and, no she did not take one of mine, I was interested in education, not dating!).

Of course, Hiro Protagonist had this to say:

Rumours, myths and innuendo - right Volourn?. You're friend is probably jealous of Eliza Dushku's success."
To which I might answer: Why is it that when someone makes a negative (and, at least in this case, truthful) comment about someone else, it is automatically assumed that we must be jealous and making sh** up? Maybe, the reality is that we are sick of working hard to excel at what we do, only to have some insignificant, no-talented little wannabe come along and get work by hitting the casting couches of anyone who will give them 15 minutes-- then going on to whinge about how hard they really work and how misunderstood they are ("you don't know what it's like to be me-- it's so hard-- No, Really"!) And, these undertalented and overpaid people leave themselves open to whatever the public opinion happens to be about their performance-- good or bad! (I am one of the public, and I do have an opinion, so I believe that qualifies me!) Especially when their public persona is built on a nothing more than mountain of lies & BS in order to make themselves "look good" and to make them "likeable"! :wowey:

Pidesco also made this comment:

"I think he's implying she "works hard" to get her roles.

I've never seen her being even a barely competent actress. She always acts as if she's playing the same character, and even that, she doesn't do particularly well."

and we knew exactly what Pidesco meant by that first comment, didn't we?

Not that I have to prove anything to the likes of you, Volourn, but I was there! At the time, I was a successful model ($2500/Hr for print work and ad campaigns, $5000 per live runway show and a multimillion dollar contract to an Italian sportscar company qualify me as "successful", before you ask) and paying for my university tuition (to three of the best Universities in the world by the time I completed three Doctoral Degrees and a handful of Masters Degrees). At this particular time, I was carrying double majors to obtain my doctoral degrees in both Criminal Law (I negotiated my own modeling contracts and was paid before I showed up for work) and Abnormal Psychology with a minor in International Business Relations. Yes, I probably was overpaid, but I busted my a** the years that I worked (both at the modeling and the studying!). I certainly would not have done the modeling if I had found another legitimate way (I had no desire to be either a prostitute or stripper) to pay for the education that I desired! The first thing I did after obtaining my degress was to quit and get a "real job"-- one of the biggest influences on that decision: I find it ridiculous to pay people millions of dollars to do useless jobs-- actors, models, musicians and sports figures, to name but a few (and these morons actually think they are worth $20 Mil to "star" in a single movie or play football for a couple of years!) when there are people starving, homeless, out of work, being abused and neglected and unable to even obtain a decent education or medical care for themselves and their families-- not to mention not enough people interested in educating themselves and becoming useful members of society like teachers, scientists, social workers, doctors (and I am not referring to the ones only in the field to make millions) and nurses, etc. Why? Because everyone would rather be rich and famous! Did you know that a recent survey asked school children what they wanted to be when they grew up and the top three answers were: rich, famous and a celebrity (in no particular order)? That really says a lot for our society, no? We are telling our children that it is better to be a rich, famous celebrity (even if only to keep mommy & daddy in the lifestyle they want to become accustomed to!) than to study and work hard so they can become useful members of society! WOW! :):aiee:

As to your final comment "Anyways, Dishku is no acting champion but she's nowhere as bad as some claim." Well, that is your opinion, is it not? An opinion that you are fully entitled to, just as I am entitled to my poor opinion of her (as is anyone else). :dancing:

PS: You do not know me at all, let alone well enough to call me a liar, so I would appreciate it if you might refrain from doing so in the future! Thanks!:brows::bat::getlost:

Honestly, I've only seen Eliza Dushku act once and that was in the movie Wrong Turn. When I watched the extras/interviews of the movie with Eliza... well, I thought she was a B Grade actress at best. Surprised when she starred in her own TV Series years later. It's probably why I haven't gone out my way to watch this series although I do have all the episodes. o:) I've been too busy watching other TV shows to get to this. :disguise:

Proof or didn't happen. I don't believe such slander about anyone posting on random messages that ar edone just to make the poster feel good that he is slagging someone famous that they proclaim to know. I don't care about Dushku, nor do I think she's a 'great' actress.

"actors, models, musicians and sports figures, to name but a few (and these morons actually think they are worth $20 Mil to "star" in a single movie or play football for a couple of years!)"

Actually, they are worth it. If the companies who make hundreds of millions off this movies, and the customers are willing to pay then the people who who work hard should get paid as well.

Let's not forget that working on a movie (or even a tv show) usually involved 6 days a week/16+ hours a day which is NOT a typical work. Not to mention the pressure of trying to do your job in the public eye where people continually try to beat you down and trash you.

"Not that I have to prove anything to the likes of you, Volourn,"

Nor does she have to prove anything to YOU.

" but I was there!"

Dushku, 'untalented' as you claim to be, has actually entertained me in multiple projects including Dollhouse (underrated), Buffy, and Angel.
