Gearbox showed their game to the public, released some of their design intention and info. to the public. Yet they are in no different position than Obsidian's, unfortunately.

 

Its the recession man. Its just sucky that there seems to be no way to save the Alien RPG from the oblivion of cancellation.

Gearbox didnt do **** , the last time they released any media on the game was march of last year

 

they are a garbage dev house and they probly spent more money on aliens memorabilia then making the game.

 

They had a potential KILLER title , and yet they didnt even attempt to negotiate releasing media for the game

 

The game's identifying feature in the games industry was

 

"oh that canned FPS?"

This is very sad if true. I hope all the best for Obsidian.

Alpha Protocol is going to be awesome and sell a zillion copies.

I'm surprised no one's said it yet...so here goes:

I'm not the biggest Aliens fan so wasn't really following development but it's a sad day for Obsidian in any case - hope they can pull through.

God damn it, was really looking forward to this game. Really, really hope the Obsidian layoff rumors are false.

According to SegaNerds via Gamespot Aliens RPG has not been cancelled but is "indefinitely suspended". So Aliens RPG is probably on a precipice right now.

 

"We will have more news to share about our Aliens franchise games in the near future," said the rep. "Sega does not comment on rumors or speculation about its products... Please stay tuned for future correspondence regarding our products."

So it seems that the game better start creating some hype for ppl demanding it or it will be become a vaporwave. Devs, for real, leak something like gearbox did. I know "you can't" but there are so many ways to leak things without getting fired. Be smart, and smartness is not about hidding.

Hi this is what I got for you.

 

Firstly... I cannot tell you if the 2 aliens games are canned or not, but to the people blaming Sega for this, don't be foolish. This is a recession, they didn't buy the Aliens License and fund two aliens games for years just to see them get canned... I doubt Sega wants that any more then you, less probably because they'll loose allot of money on it.

 

Secondly, I've heared some rumours going around but remember they are just rumours that both Gearbox and Obsidian (among others) are suffering from the recession, cut backs are being made in the companies and this could be troublesome for the games in development.

 

Finally it is important to remember that so far this is just a rumour, treat it as one until it is either confirmed or denied by Sega themselves. Kotaku are the least reliable sauce on the internet... and this is where that started. Kotaku is full of sith.

 

 

Oh and to who ever moaned about it, Sonic games don't get canned because people keep buying them in droves no matter the quality... THIS JUST IN, buisness wants to make money!

Yeah, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's just a big overreaction (we can know with some certainty that layoffs will occur if they haven't already). Sega came out just yesterday and said AvP3(?) would be the "first in a series of Aliens franchise games". It seems highly unlikely that they'd be canning the existing games just to make new ones in their stead. That would cost more money than it would take to keep these ones going.

Even if it delays 2 more years I think everyone can wait without making a drama but please don't cancell it!

I hope that at worst the project is just on halt.

Exactly, the only problem that could really hit the games is if the developers (gearbox and obsidian) have run into money troubles and can no longer support themselves, these games have been in development for far to long Sega wont want to can them trust me.

 

 

People blaiming Sega for this or saying Sega should not have the Aliens IP make me do a big f**king facepalm, If anything is to blame it is the recession, everyone suffers and honestly with out Sega the Aliens series could have ended up in some really ****ty hands. Sega obviously has or had big plans for the series, but neither them or Obsidian/Gearbox are recession proof and things just don't work out sometimes.

 

That said, its a rumour... Lets wait for official word which I'm sure will come very soon.

But the overreaction comes in the face of nobody official saying anything to the contrary, which is always going to lead to overreactions as people try to fill in the blanks.

 

anyhoo, I really want to play this game, so I am just going to keep hoping that it will still move forward in some way with Josh at the helm.

Again, it has no relevance on the (rumoured) cancellations at all, because A:CM is on the same boat as well.

 

Of course people are not going to know about a game that's not even officially announced. That's like asking why nobody knew about Dragon Age in 2001.
