It broke new ground in the late 70s and then everyone copied it like a bunch of n00bs. In some ways, I consider Alien to be the Citizen Kane of sci-fi horror. Youngsters look at and think that there's nothing really special about it, but at the time it was innovative in a lot of ways.

lol. Its just like Half Life. Except 20 years earlier.

Aliens aren't all the gross anyway. Not like Carpenter's The Thing or other such films.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

Aliens spraying acid blood is pretty core, and the alien resin creep is also very core to alien hives. I think it would be a disservice to the IP if we didn't represent those aspects faithfully.

I wasn't aware that Alien fathered the whole trend - not so big on horror / sci-fi films. That's fair enough. And as long as we are using the IP, then yes, we should keep to that.

Acid blood, huh? That's something I didn't know (or forgot). That would indeed have interesting gameplay consequences... hell, what about using an alien corpse to melt your way down to the lower levels?

It still gets to me how much more detailed and credible Carpenter's creatures in "The Thing" look compared to today's 3D pointless extravaganzas. I couldn't stand watching I Robot because of that. All my senses fired up the fake alert in an uncomfortable way.

That happened several times in the movies, with their blood corroding floors (in Alien, a minor blood spill from the alien facehugger is tracked by Nostromo's crew down across several levels) or hurting marines (in Aliens, Hicks is scarred after an alien is shot with a pulse rifle and blood splatters hit him in the face).

In the AvP games, Alien blood also damages whatever character players are in control of.

They put that in the FPS AVP games? Sweet!

And it would be cool if, in both of the new Aliens games, that when your character is scarred by acid blood, it stays with you! You can look like a train wreck by the end of the game!

That would be tyte!

Yeah, you had to be careful of how you moved around and confronted aliens. I still remember the first levels of the first AvP game (I'm thinking PC here, not the Jaguar 64 version); firing in all directions against Aliens in cramped corridors. One Alien literally lunged at me and (un)fortunately, I pull off a headshot. Its head snaps mid-air from its torso, everything modelled pretty well with convincing physics and sound, but the body keeps going forward and smashes against me, then collapsing to the ground. The blood coming out of the torso starts spilling out and my Marine starts screaming.

Jawesome stuff, that. AvP1 is still one of my favorite FPSs ever.

From memory, the blood in Alien caused a hull breach, so your idea sounds plausible.

They worried it'd cause a hull breach, but it never did in Alien (just re-watched it two weekends ago).

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

^True, it just goes through several levels before it fizzles out.

Then it eats through a pencil. Yaphet Kotto's expression when Tom Skerrit hands him back the consumed pencil is always good for a chuckle.

A question: do we know exactly how much blood the xenomorphs have in their bodies? I mean, gallons of the stuff seems to pour onto Drake and that was just from a head wound.

The Breakdown Begins this May.

In Alien Resurrection, two aliens killed one of their own kind in order to escape through the cauterized floor. So yeah, it's quite a lot blood. Still very unrealistic...but hey, what do I know of Alien physiology?

What ALiens should look like? Like the first one, everytime some nerd dork geek dweeb tries something different to show us his 'artistic' side in him/her we get something stupid like a newborn, so just stick to the original which is also the best one ever created.

You cant go wrong when you look like this:

CHESTBURSTER

Personally, I like the Alien Resurection Aliens. They looked more powerful to me. Should there be customizable aliens in the multiplayer mode if there is one? Striped aliens, spotted aliens, Albino aliens. Aliens that you can controll, climb up the walls, hide in shadows and jump out at startled marines.

Albino aliens. Spotted Aliens. Striped aliens.

Soon they'll name it Alien Zoo RPG.

Now there's a franchise ripped apart ;(

And if LA announces KotOR III will never be made shortly after TSLRP is shut down, is it reasonable to assume that what happened to Alderaan in A New Hope would happen to LA HQ?
