GBX are taking the Bioweapons route
Do we know this, or...?
But if GBX are taking the Bioweapons route

just to clarify

when your mind works against you - fight back with substance abuse!

@Wasinghalm: The jockeys should be the creators of the aliens, look at the walls of the derelict, its design and such..., all is pretty similar to the body of the alien, so this leads me to think that way, furthermore, the jockeys also praised their own creation apart from using it for their purposes..., the alien creature itself is almost like their religion or something like that, no matter if they created them..., or not.

@to all those who in some way say that the predators are somehow involved into the alien existence or things like that : do you remember that all these things come from the comics?, mixing predators and aliens is good in a video game, or for an action movie (well..., hahah), but the alien story have nothing to do with the predators and I pray god for this to stay like that, apart from the fact that these comics and the things they were trying to state as canonical things were absolutely lame.

When the time comes and fox decides that the predators and the aliens always had a past in common, (oh my god, how couldn,t we see that? hahah) then I,m gonna cry..., or laugh who knows.

And by the way returning to topic..., I,m not english so it,s not my main language, but when I,m looking for the meaning of the word "Jockey" in the dictionary to see if I missed something about this word and find nothing special...., is there something wrong with this word guys?, if so, please tell me.

Confirming that 'Jockey' is indeed a goofy word that is hard to take seriously in any way.

Dictionary:

jock1 (jŏk) pronunciation

n.

1. Sports. A jockey.

2. A disc jockey.

[short for JOCKEY.]

jock2 (jŏk) pronunciation

n.

1. An athletic supporter.

2. Sports. An athlete, especially in college.

3. Slang. One characterized by excessive concern for machismo.

[short for JOCKSTRAP.]

Jockstrap:

A jockstrap, also known as a jock or athletic supporter, is a type of men's undergarment designed for use in sports or other activities, such as during the recovery from a vasectomy, although some men wear them for comfort.

A typical jockstrap consists of a wide elastic waistband with a support pouch and two straps extending from the base of the pouch around the buttocks (which it does not cover, unlike briefs or boxers) to attach to the waistband. The pouch, in some varieties, may be fitted with a pocket to hold an impact resistant cup or box to protect the testicles and/or the **** from injury, from e.g. baseball practice.

If your second definition just matchs the pilot..., then where,s the problem with this word again?
Not being an English native speaker myself, I too fail to grasp the silly connotations this word seems to have. Therefore, I must resort to pure, unadulterated mathematical logic in order to reach an understanding.

Yeah, I know. I should have finished my degree before pulling this sort of stunt.

That,s the problem with english, too many meanings for single words in different contexts. I guess you need to be english or use it as your main language in order to understand what the deal is with this word when applied to the pilot.

In my language, jockey can only be translated as "Jinete" (it means the person who rides a horse"), but despite of the fact that I,m not english, I could get the poetic thing around this word, and I found it good, never childish.

Well, surely you still find it somewhat lame to name a mysterious alien race after somebody who rides a horse?

Not a native speaker either, but it seems that part of the problem is that the term is not used much in its "driver" meaning any more. Therefore the images it conjures in mind are the more common usages of the word in the modern day. Am I right?

SODOFF Steam group.

The Space Jockey name never bothered me. I've seen it used outside of the Aliens universe numerous times -- usually referring to pilots of spacecraft. There's even an old Atari game called Space Jockey.

I never associated it with jocks or jock-straps until now .. thanks :) (tries to scrub mental images from mind)

My work here is done.

They are briefly mentioned in "Female War" (Third installment of the "Aliens on Earth" series: Earth Hive, Nightmare Asylum, Female War). They are allegedly a species on a secret agenda that have a superficial affiliation with the corporation (Weyland-Yutani). It's an alternative follow-up to "Aliens". Very good reads actually. I've read all the Alien novels but don't remember these guys ever mentioned elsewhere. They actually appear in "Female War" btw.

Think it's mentioned that these guys exchanged technological information for some benefits that aren't exactly outlined.

Their literal origin was from this sequence in Mario Bava's Planet of the Vampires: crew lands on planet inhabited by parasitic aliens, finds mysterious spaceship filled with dead giants. O'Bannon was emulating an idea from a movie he liked without fleshing it out very much. Subsequent creative teams probably just haven't done much with it because it won't fit organically into an Aliens-style "marines vs. bugs" story.

One also made a brief appearance in the Destroying Angels comic. Pretty much just to give birth to this:

AlienJockey.jpg

Their role in the comic was closer thematically to O'Bannon's original backstory. In the comic the Jockeys foreshadowed what would happen to any sapient space-faring race that expanded too far and encountered the Aliens - extinction. Much like the derelict was originally foreshadowing what would happen to the Nostromo and her crew. They found parasitic lifeforms, gave birth to one, and the crew were turned into eggs.

You'll get some conflicting information on their story. Scott has mentioned that they may have been ferrying the eggs instead of finding them.

When talking about the Alien reflecting its host, Scott also gives a hint at to what the living Jockey might have looked like.

The alien life form lived to reproduce, and in reproducing took on the characteristics of its last inabitant and its new host.

Thus the alien on board the Nostromo had the characteristics of the space jockey on the derelict and Kane. If the face hugger had hit the cat, it would have been a hybrid of the space jockey and the cat.

Delson, James (1979). 'Alien from the inside out'. Fantastic Films, November 1979.

So back then the idea was that the creature incorporated characteristics from the previous generation. This would explain why the Alien looks biomechanical and the similar aesthetic that the creature shares with the derelict.
