I feel very limited by my lack of a console after years of being a pc only gamer. The last time I made serious use of consoles was back in the days of the old atari and intellevision consoles. But it is time to go back.

However, I was checking out those demos and playthroughs to see what would be open to me if I got a console, and I was sadly not really impressed.

You should get a system because there are games on it you want, not because you feel you have to.

The reason I got a 360 was frustration at parts of my PC hardware failing just over a year after getting them, conviently out of warranty, so what was a top of the line machine became a piece of junk. Rather then replacing them, I got myself a 360, seeing as how most of the PC games I was interested in were on that system anyway, the same reason I was never interested in the xbox. I downgraded my PC and now use it mainly for older games.

Ah, I see crashgirl is giving it the old, PC gaming is dead again... It's like an endless record, I don't agree and I shall never agree.

I own consoles and several PC's, PC gaming went through a similar phase in the mid 90's, I expect there will be a large turn around when DX10 takes hold.

Was there anything at E3 about the Aliens FPS? I thought it was due for release soonish, before Obsidian's RPG.

Nah, the Sega PR VP thought it was not polished enough for public showing. But there was even less presence from Gearbox than there was from Obsidz, so who knows what the reasons are.

It was just the demos and walkthroughs were so...I don't even have a word for it.

Uninteresting?

Awww, you know I love you, baby...

Sure you can. I change all time. A lot of my arguments with you over the years have changed my opnions about a lot of things. Or at least modified them.

I was just going from your previous argument that your taste is gaming has never changed. You're hard to follow.

I was expecting much more from the RE5 and Silent Hill trailers. I was very disappointed by those especially. I can only assume that they really do not represent the games very well.

Didn't you try SH3 once upon a time?

Maybe. Probably dead is the wrong word. Slumbering maybe. (you guys drive me crazy! lol) But the bottom line is by not having a console I feel I am missing out on games I might like; I feel my choices are a lot more limited than they need to be right now. I am not saying I am going to throw my pc out the window and only use a console; I am just saying I really can't abide with being a pc-only gamer anymore. WHich is just somewhat a new situation for me becuase for many many years it hasn't been a problem. I never used to feel I was "missing out" with only a pc. Now I do.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

Well it hasn't really. I mean I still love the same gamplay I've always loved, but I am more than willing to move to a new platform to find it, if that is what it takes. I mean I am not really finding it on the pc in any great quantity at the moment, so I might as well look elsewhere.

Which games are you missing that you can't find on the PC?

Well, I don't have specific titles really. I mean I know there are a few I would like to try on their native platform such as Resident Evil vs as a crappy pc port with buggered controls 2 years after tha fact. But since I don't have a console, I don't really go looking at console titles. I would probably have to research a bit as to what is available for which platform, but my tendency would be to go for an Xbox rather than a PS3. I'm not really interested in a Wii, I am pretty sure.

I love the SH series, but it's probably more due to my love of horror in general. I play them for the story and characters and locations, and always felt the gameplay alone was never enough to carry the game.

May I suggest that you take a look at the games that those onsoles offer before getting too consoley?

I'm not trying to tell you that you shouldn't get a console (as I have an 360 myself), but rather that now isn't really the time to switch because of games1. The real reason to get a console is if it brings something to you through the way it works:

Xbox 360: Ease of use(general console trait), Ease of multiplayer, many multiplayer features that the PC can only dream of.

PS3: Ease of use(general console trait), it's getting something called home which will apparently be fabulous or something.

Wii: Ease of use(general console trait), gimmick controller(not biased :p ).

If any of those traits appeal to you on some level or in some cases then you should think about getting a console, but games in my opinion shouldn't matter.

Well if I were to get an XBOX I would defintely try SH5, even if the trailer wasn't so impressive. I generally enjoy horror and scary type stuff, although not too scary or I start to cry.

But regardless I'm tired of going into best buy and seeing a entire pc game section that consists of 1 shelf with about 7 games compared to a console game section that stretches from one end of the store to another and has little signs so you don't get lost. Even if 90% of the games are crap, with that many to choose from some are bound to be enjoyable. Plus you can rent them to try them out.

But there doesn't appear to be nearly so wide a selection of games for pc anymore. And most pc games are on the XBOX anyway.

Honestly I am waiting for the day when you can use the same disc on either a console or a pc. That would be awesome. Probably a few years away though.

Using a gamepad to control an FPS is like trying to fight evil through maple syrup.

I'd be surprised if that ever happened. Presumably developers want to keep the profit margins on consoles that they've lost with PCs. If I can run a disc on both my 360 and my PC I'd imagine 360 piracy will skyrocket.

I agree. I think the biggest thing is profit. Now that PC games have declined, the console market is the way to go. I mean, with MS making a console, don't you think that if they wanted to, they could have done it with this generation? It just doesn't make sense from a monetary standpoint. I think they'd rather have 2 revenue streams.

It's because console gaming has actually improved, alot...

And because PC gaming hasn't on some very noticable fronts such as multiplayer features.

Well, I think more accurately it's just that consoles have finally caught up to PC gaming for multiplayer. I mean for a long time the PC was the only way to do multiplayer, especially over the internet. Now, consoles (well, mainly the 360) have assets that can be used for online play. PC games can still be wildly successful but I think most people are turning to consoles just because it's not necessary to upgrade them at all.
