Overall, I like this E3. Turns out 2008 will have some good games after all. Gears 2, Prince of Persia, etc... and we have yet to see a trailer for Alpha Protocol, HAWX, and lots more.

But we may have a situation.

They're making another 50 cent game.

I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Huh? 2008 has had many good games and will still have many good games:

GTA4

STALKER: Clear Sky

Red Alert 3

Spore

Left4dead

And many others that I can't remember now. 2008 has mostly been a late-in-the-year year for me so I guess I kinda understand where you're coming from.

I'm mostly following E3 through RPS and Kotaku.

At the end of 2007, pretty much the biggest year in gaming in a while, there was a worry that 2008 didn't have many very anticipated releases. Projects were announced along the way though, and now E3 proves that the year does have some really good titles. But yes, we'll have to wait for Christmas until all the huge releases.

As for individual titles, GTA4 winded up being a huge title without really being all that hyped, and it was delayed a number of times while Spore has been delayed to 2008.

EDIT: I just follow Gametrailers. I prefer to look at gameplay rather than read about it.

What about GT5 prologue and Metal Gear? Didn't these sell pretty well on the PS? Also they were critically touted as being pretty impressive games as well. And from what I've seen, are pretty impressive games.

I haven't been able to keep up with all that's been at e3, but now that it's ending today..I might have some time to reread the sony stuff. Been a little busy at work so I've missed alot of the latest. I ddi see the MS thing though which was a real cool presentation.

Nintendo's E3 this year was the worst E3 they've ever had, and is worse than Sony's 2006 E3.

That's pretty bad.

But Microsoft's E3 is pretty sweet. And Sony's is alright.

I just watched about an hours worth of game demos from E3 in G4 tv and all I can say is bleah....

I found it very difficult to distinguish one game from another except in the most superficial of ways. Its kinda funny watching these developers get on and pimp their game like its the greatest thing ever, but really it looks just like the game I watched 4 minutes ago.

Maybe they need to show more in their demos than carrying weapons and fighting.

The new Prince of Persia had a kinda neat art style to it, but that was the only things that stood out.

Here's what I watched:

FO3

Resident Evil 5

Silent Hill 5

Prince of Persia

Bionic Commando

Fable 2

Gears of War 2

Ghostbusters

Halo Wars

Killzone

Resistance 2

Star Wars Force Unleashed

Too Human

What a bunch of junk.

The game that actually stood out the most was Fallout 3. I guess that's a good thing.

Nintendo's SUCKED. Microsoft's would have been better if they had removed the middle part about the casual crap. Sony's was REALLY good, IMO.

Fallout 3 FTW.

I guess ChrashGirl isn't a fan of one-button combat.

@CrashGirl

have you watched anything from STALKER: Clear Sky? I'm fishing for whether you've seen/heard the 'techno' combat music they've put in.

I don't know about that, but all those demos/playthroughs were incredibly generic and uninspiring. Maybe they just need better demos to show more of what the game is. Maybe the games are pretty much all the same generic junk. Either way nothing about them convinced me I was going to be parting with any money.

I've read very very little and watched nothing. I've been avoiding it intentionally so as to make my first playthrough as much a surprise as possible.

I kinda liked this years E3. This is from PC players point of view. Spore, Dragon's Age, NWN2 expasion, Mirror's Edge, Fallout3, Operation Flashpoint 2. I also like the idea of freeform exploring of the Far Cry 2, but not sure if it's good enough otherwise from game mechanics perspective.

I was looking forward of to see something from Half-Life2 episode 3 or Bioware's (KotOR) MMOG. Maybe next year.

Let's play Alpha Protocol

One button combat is a misnomer used to name/describe Fable II's combat that uses one button and a directional pad (360) to determine what the character does. And yes most of such videos are horribly boring and a much better way of finding games is to find people describing those games as well as screenshots showing off the cool bits, at least in my experience.

Well... you'll be surprised if they keep it in. :shifty: As should be obvious by now I've personally not being able to keep away.

Also I'm not surprised that you weren't hyped by those games as the only one I'm thinking of buying myself is Fable II and that is only if it is lauded and arrives on the PC. Niten_Ryu has a good list of the awesome parts of E3.

I think you are confused or something. According to the guy on G4 PC gaming is not dying, it's actually dead.

That's what he told Todd Howard anyway. Todd didn't seem to quite agree though.

One of the 2 guys who did the interview with Todd when he did his playthrough with the teddy bears and stuff. I don't know his name.

Was there anything at E3 about the Aliens FPS? I thought it was due for release soonish, before Obsidian's RPG.

I haven't seen anything, but I wasn't looking for any title in specfic just seeing what was out there in a general sense. So there may be info on it.

I should also point out that I am not really in disagreement with the idea that the pc is dead as a gaming platform. There are still a few titles here and there that are pc only, but those aren't going to be around much longer I don't think. If you don't have a console, it's getting to the point where you really don't have access to the vast majority of interesting (potentially) games that are being made.

The pc is pretty second-rate now as a platform for contemporary games. I feel very limited by my lack of a console after years of being a pc only gamer. The last time I made serious use of consoles was back in the days of the old atari and intellevision consoles. But it is time to go back.

However, I was checking out those demos and playthroughs to see what would be open to me if I got a console, and I was sadly not really impressed.

To be fair, I think some of those demos such as the Resident Evil 5 one probably did not give a good sense of the game.

I am going to try and see if I can get somebody to give me a console for my birthday. Maybe I can find a rich aunt or other distance relative in my family trr or something.

You know, disinterest isn't indicative of quality. CrashGirl no likey doesn't equal junk, otherwise your face would be junk. Oh I kill me...

I don't expect you to change though, you can't teach an old dog new tricks!

Seriously though, it seems you mostly watched trailers for fairly similar games. Two of them are the fifth in the series, if you aren't interested now you'll never be.

@CrashGirl

Which games are exclusively console that you would want? This whole exclusivity deal is seriously cracked.

The only game that I'm considering getting for my failbox, Left4Dead, isn't even an exclusive and I'm only getting that for the 360 because Valve has been unable to give the PC equal or close to as good co-op features.

Exclusives are either temporary to make money (GTA 4, Fable 2, Mass Effect), simply bad/boring games or very narrow games that I have zero interest in.

that's true. Junk was uneccessarily derogative on my part. It was just the demos and walkthroughs were so...I don't even have a word for it. ALl they showed were characters carrying weapons and fighting. And it all looked very much the same. Seriously. Like identical. Other than a few specific ares like the art of Prince of Persia.

Sure you can. I change all time. A lot of my arguments with you over the years have changed my opnions about a lot of things. Or at least modified them.

I just took what was on the list. I skipped 2 I think.

I was expecting much more from the RE5 and Silent Hill trailers. I was very disappointed by those especially. I can only assume that they really do not represent the games very well.

I don't know really. If I could I would get both a PS3 and an Xbox, but that would seem unlikely....lol.

Xbox seems to have more games that I like in general, but I think there are a few that won't be on it. Resident Evil and SIlent Hill are not on Xbox, correct?

No and no. They're both coming for 360. The only two good PS3 exclusives are MS4 and GoW3.
