Gearbox is now working on a second (with second i mean one after that of Obsidian's) Alien game (seems like a FPS)

 

 

 

maybe its not the best idea to have 2 similar games 'rivalizing' eachother in developement, but maybe they could benefit from eachothers press

And it was a hot topic in this particular forum when SEGA accidentally 'leaked' the names of Obsidian and Gearbox for making 2 Alien games they licensed on their website.

well yea, have to admit i was more into DnD and strategy game info lately (months), i just started to get more info about the alien games, thx for that link

Generally speaking, the FPS and RPG genres don't compete much, unless they have a fair degree of overlap(eg: System Shock or Deus Ex or their sequels.). In the case where fans of the subject matter(Aliens) enjoy both genres, they're usually interested in putting out for both games. No marketing fumble to my mind, seems like they're just covering all the bases and setting themselves up to use/create more interest in AvP2 and Alien 5(Unlike how some people/development studios seem to think, you don't have to clone a movie into a game to be strongly associated with it.)...

 

I for one, am quite interested in both games, as I tend to enjoy the gameplay of FPS more, but also quite like a good story, which an RPG that isn't just mindless stat-crunching will deliver well on, hopefully.

There was a massive failboat game also under the name Colonial Marines but it is entirely unrelated.
