It's a very strong letter for these kind of letters, and the fact that it went public shows it too. I do hope an apology is 'extracted' from the no-doubt unwilling.

By the way, the bit about vidgames stealing audiences from TV? Gold. Low, but gold. :alien:

The guy appologized and did so in a decent manner. I think this calls for a cessation of the high minded rhetoric against him.

What does this have to do with the Fox News story? I agree, the guy apologized and that's great, but the story is still hitting major news stations despite huge inaccuracies. I don't care if it's a liberal or a conservative, it's ridiculous that gaming is blamed for so many of societies woes, and it's insulting that they air these stories without a shred of evidence or research.

well supposedly EA (I think) finially sent a nasty letter to Fox News requesting that Fox retract their story and state the facts.

It's scary being on the same side as EA isn't it? o:)

Also since I didn't see any of you mention it, The so called expert has had her book rating one starred on Amazon.

Update. It appears that Fox News basically told EA to shove it.

It is time for EA to fight the conservatives of Faux Noobz.

I never thought I would ever be cheering EA on. o:)

Maybe, finally, EA's buckets of cash and corporate suits will do some good.

I continue to be amused by that psych person's books though. They're the kind of stuff you use in Monty Python skits.

I'm also behind EA/Bioware, and maybe a cameo appearance of the people involved could show up in a future game....

eh it could be like when you are able to punch a journalist in the mouth for her trying to get you to say something against what the Alliance would want you to say.

Hah. Classic old trick by Fox. Why must EA come on Fox? It wouldn't work anyway. Fox would just set them against psych experts who write books on dating, ask loaded questions then cut them off before they have had a chance to answer, and conclude the 'investigation' without presenting any facts whatsoever; it seems their own 'journalists' are too busy being celebrities to actually look things up themselves.

Once again, it is the nature of such things: we are disgusted by their antics, but we are not surprised; we can do little, and nothing seems to change; we move on, we forget, and it happens again with new victims.

Did one panelist actually say Mass Effect was the equivalent of Luke Skywalker meets Debbie in Dallas?

Do you think the continuous bashing of video games as the ultimate evil will continue? Or do you see it gradually disappearing as more and more kids grow up playing video games?

Great question. I do believe games are becoming more mainstream everyday. But the game industry itself is going to have to do some of the legwork in order to lose the "ultimate evil" moniker. Continuing to improve and tout the ESRB is a major aspect, as well as educating parents to the best of their ability. Also, educating the public about the different types of games is a huge obstacle. I see simple independant flash games and the likelumped in with the gaming industry as a whole too often. If some guy makes a tasteless murder simulator in his basement, it's not the same as a major studio spending millions developing a murder simulator. The major studio needs to be able to distance itself from those types of products, and that's going to require a bit of self-censorship. Games like "Manhunt" draw a lot of negative publicity, and it cripples the industry as a whole.

I'm not saying games like Manhunt shouldn't be made, they aren't any different than a horror flick, but maybe the major studios should hold off on titles like this until they have a better relationship with the media and politicians.

Games still need to find a way to attract a wider audience, too. Sure, kids play games and so do a lot of men in their 20's and 30's, but other demographics are not so well represented. Games like Rock Band and the Sims do a great job attracting new people, but those types are few and far between. The Wii might be the most important console to ever come out because of this.

I see this as a good thing for Mass Effect: lots of free publicity. Those that are actually concerned with what FOX said obviously haven

Hahhah, this is grand!

I hope for a response from Fox for their stupidity.
