Writers Guild to honor gaming scribes

Sounds cool. Haven't played MOTB yet to judge. From games that are going to be released before the due date it will likely (for me) be between MOTB, ME, and to a lesser degree The Witcher (if it atcually comes out), and FF12 (if it qualifies). Out of games I've actually played otherwise, TW and BS had the best story (but, I don't think either are worthy of consideration though).

Chances are, however, that a mainstream game like Halo 3, Gears of Wear, or Bioshock will win it. HAHA!

In this case, Bioshock might have to take most of the love, seeing how recent its release was and how generally awesome the plotting and execution was. I'd assume MOTB's status as an expansion might hurt its stature. Only the dumb and the paid-off consider Halo to be anything approaching noteworthy.

Much as I'd like to see MCA get recognized for PST, or maybe even KOTORII, that ain't happening.

So I looked into getting a nomination in for Mask of the Betrayer. Well, it looks like Chris, George, Kevin, Tony, Eric, Jeff, Matt and the rest of our design team is disqualified already.

From the WGA award page:

Submitted games MUST have separate credit for writing (i.e. Written By, Story By, Writer, Story Designer, etc.). Writing credits must be verified by their inclusion in the game manual. If writing credits are not printed in the game manual, the publisher must fax or e-mail screenshots of the game's complete writing credits directly to Melissa Gage at the WGAW, fax no.: (323) 782-4810 e-mail: Melissa Gage. Alternate proof of writing credit will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

While there is no limit on the number of credited writers a particular game may have, credits not specifically tied to videogame writing are not acceptable (i.e. Lead Designer, Designed By, Produced By, etc.)

I'll email Miss Gage to see if we can still get a nomination anyways despite that we don't call our talented game designers just plain old writers. Just calling them writers is belittling their importance and role on the team.

I hesitate to ask, but do you think that polite support for your point of view, given by the community, might help at all. ...Or will it just muddy the waters? I doubt if we could really muster much by way or suppoort, but even a handful of well reasoned letter from various community members probably won't hurt, either. Please keep us posted.
