Kaftan Barlast Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 I have a REALLY good monitor Eizo S1931. It has really good colour representation and light balance, with a 178 degree view. of course.. its more like 500 DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. Bokishi Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 178 degree view? How does that work? Current 3DMark
Deraldin Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 178 degree view? How does that work? You can see what's on the screen as long as you are not behind it.
Bokishi Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 But like every monitor lets you see that, why's this so special? Current 3DMark
Deraldin Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 But like every monitor lets you see that, why's this so special? Because not every monitor does let you see at those angles. A lot of older LCD's, those on laptops especially, would turn completely black at only 45 degrees off center. It's not as big a deal now as just about any monitor now has a viewing angle of at least 160 degrees.
Kaftan Barlast Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 But you should always watch the specs, Ive seen brand new TFT's with like 130/140 viewing angle. Especially since they measure it strangely so it might actually be much less. Lare Kikkeli Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 I ended up getting a Samsung Syncmaster 940NW since it was on sale, and i've been happy so far (i've only had it for a day and a half though, so things might change). I'll just have to play older games without widescreen support windowed now, which is kind of a bummer, the stretching makes KOTOR looks hideous.

The blacks could be blacker, but the colors look normal to me and the refresh rate is solid.
Kaftan Barlast Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 With widescreen monitors its important to think about how large your work area will be. In most cases its useless to buy one smaller than 24" because you will end up with less vertical aera than an regular 19" monitor. You gain a few unusable inches to the sides at the cost of useful vertical space. Sammael Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 This is why I absolutely hate widescreen monitors. For most of my usual computer work, I simply have no use for the extra couple of inches on the side. I'd much rather have 2 non-wide monitors than 1 wide one. There are no doors in Jefferson that are "special game locked" doors. There are no characters in that game that you can kill that will result in the game ending prematurely.
Wistrik Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 (edited) I would value their recommendation for the 1900x1200 24" Samsung SyncMaster 244T. I did some research and ended up getting one of those, in black. It arrived yesterday and I had some time to test it out. Why I like it over my older 21" Samsung (215TW): - 1920x1200 widescreen, or 1200x1920 when rotated 90 Edited April 13, 2007 by Wistrik
