Screensavers...who else can run this beast?

Since this board software will not allow me to attach the actual screensaver, please go to http://reallyslick.com/ for the package. Be warned however!!! the screensaver package ( at 11 Mb ) is a tremendous resource hog to lesser systems. 'Hyperspace' is well worth it though if your system can run it. It is the most kick-ass! screensaver that I've seen. It also will not work on any other rig I've put it on other than mine. What I'm getting at is what system resource is it loading that causes it not to run on anything less than mine ( Post your system specs page #2 )? I've loaded it on Intel 2.7 Gh and not had it run properly. I've loaded it on AMD Semprons 1.8 w/ 1 Gb ram and a decent video card and not had it word. Actually, I've not been able to load it on any system other than my own and had it work. What does it require?

I got them all to run on my computer except for skyrocket which didn't seem to want to start. I might have not given it enough time to start though so I'll check again at some point that isn't 2am. I had a good 50+ FPS in all of them except Helios and Hyperspace which both averaged around 15FPS with a minimum of about 12 and spikes up to the low 20's.

EDIT: Don't even start Bok... I already know that you've got like a thousand FPS in some of those. :-

They all run on my computer too; I don't think the pc even sweated. Hyperspace gets 45-60fps and the rest were in the 100's, with occasional bursts of 200's depending on what it was drawing.

My mo'bo/pc may not be all shiny but apparently it's just fine. >_<

I don't really see how the files together being 11MB makes it a resource hog - each individual .scr file isn't that large ... but I don't know how screensavers work/pull resources so ... :)

Braggart. :)

Even when they were only playing in the little display properties preview window the numbers didn't go higher than around 500-800. harhar, lol

P.S. They are very cool screensavers. I like the fireworks one - complete with sound. >_<

In lattice, my fps is 950 :)

my fps read as: FPS = 85 . 000

??? How did you get 950 and i only got 85 dude bro?!

Do you have Vsync enabled in your graphics card properties?

Only when its requested by a program, its not forced on. I have a 7900GT OC'd by XFX

Try turning it off completely. If it's stuck at 85FPS and never dips below that then it sounds like it's being capped by vsync.

OK, Thats better, my average is about 600fps now. :)

... Impressive Bo. Im saving my bucks for the next generation of graphic cards after the 800 series :p. Still Ill never be able to SLI though. Ill be ready ready for physics and 1333 CPU's still. :)

How do I get to that screen? This may be why I cannot get it to run on my wife's computer.

Umm not really.

Vsync regulates framerates so it wont go over your monitor's refresh rate, therefore preventing tearing. Your usually capped at 60 or 85 fps (whatever you're monitor's refresh rate is.

Something interesting: With vsync off, I notice a strange phenomenon where the tearing goes away (or reduced by 90%) when the fps goes over 500. I noticed this in HL2

Then this might be interesting for my system as my monitor refreshes at @ 18 milliseconds. My FPS is about 60 with an Athlon 64 4800+ and the same with an FX-60 ( hyperspace ).

Also, my wife's system is a Sempron 3000+ ( I think ( 1.6 Gb )) with an ATI Radeon 9250 video card. 1 Gb of RAM. I bought the materials on two separate trips and put it together before I realized that the 754 socket was obsolete. I can locate an Athlon 64 3700+ ( motherboard's maximum ) but it's kinda pricey so I'd like to know before I spend the money if it's actually the problem. She mostly plays casino games with her system but when she saw the screensaver running on my rig and not on hers, she immediately saw a difference in systems. I have a spare Geforce FX5500 ( 256 Mb ) video card if that is the issue.

And yet the question still remains...

I'll add the FX5500 to her system and see how it goes though.

What screen? To turn off vsync? It's usually in the video card's performance/quality control menus somewhere.

'Somewhere' being the operative word here.

Not sure if this is the one you are looking for... when I get back to my Nvidia equipped machine, I'll see if I can find the equivalent setting there.

It's the one called "Wait for vertical refresh" I think.

Heh, I'd forgotten some cards use odd (or not common) phrases for it. I think my husband had an old card where it was lost in a bizarre set of sub-menus.

Aha! I wondered why Deus Ex plateaued at 60fps (my monitor's frequency), to the point that when I start playing after a cold boot and long cessation of PC activity, Denton and the NPCs all hare around like someone has the video on cue!
