Where's everybody from?

I'm from Pittsburgh - a drinking* city with a football problem.

*Second drunkest city in the U.S., right behind Milwaukee.

Not according to the latest Forbes list. They've got you burghermeisters sobered up to #8.

Me? Here and there.

By "here" I mean California, the golden land of promise. 'Cept the promises are less reliable than sunshine here in the pyrite land of illusion. At least it never rains.

Really? Damn, we gotta work on that!

Toronto native, here. Not the nicest part of Canada, admittedly, but I like it. I've been here my whole life though, so I'm thinking it's time for a change of scenery.

Now, if only I could find a way to smuggle myself over to some European country or other, I'd be set!

wellington, new zealand

Rumored to be a wonderful place.

Home of Peter Jackson!

well... it's alright...

it's know as "windy" wellington for a reason. which is really annoying when you have hair as long as mine (it's long enough to tuck into my belt now) coz it flies all over the place

australia (note the lacking capital).

I was born in Griffith N.S.W, raised a little NW of Sydney. If you want to waste a nuclear strike on me here is the closest readable position of my physical form. :ermm: Were I "live" >_< Woodend ...(my life here but I wouldn't be caught dead here) it's a bit blurry, because light doesn't reach the bottom of the pit. Aim for High street or the Clock Tower on High street, just make sure it is Woodend, because every decent sized town has a High street with a clock tower in Victoria. If you choose to make a land assault make sure your white with a redneck and you will go unnoticed.

You might want to start here>No one would mind I certainly don't. Just make sure the PM is at Yaralumla.... :shifty:

EDIT:..... After all that the link doesn't work. No impending bombardment from above. :verydisappointed:

It's one of the most beautiful places in the world. I lived there for 2.5 years

If I could pick any one place in the world to stay and grow old, it would be there. Alas, job opportunities are just more attractive across the Tasman

Well, I can tell a Singaporian customs agent from a Californian customs agent. The latter is genetically engineered to have no sense of humour :p

So you actually got away from Jersey? According to Sam Jackson in Long Kiss Goodnight, the entire population of Jersey has tried and failed.

Seriously though, what is it about Jersey that makes everyone joke about the place whenever I hear about it? I've never been there.

DENMARK!

It appears that I have not yet found a sig to replace the one about me not being banned... interesting.

Seriously though, what is it about Jersey that makes everyone joke about the place whenever I hear about it? I've never been there.

There are a couple of reasons that some folks like to joke about New Jersey.

Here's some info:

NJ is the most densly populated state in the USA.

NJ has a very substantial chemical and pharmaceautical industry.

NJ has great ocean beaches.

NJ has casinos in Atlantic City, a beach town.

Substantial parts of NJ are supporting cities and suburbs to NY City or Philadelphia.

These areas include very low class and very high class neighborhoods.

Much of the parts of NJ just outside NY City and Philadelphia are overrun with docks and truck and rail depots and warehouses and oil and gas storage tanks and garbage dumps and airports supporting these cities and surrounds.

A large swamp like area called the Meadowlands is within sight of NY City and contains lots of inductrial support infrastructure. Because of the wetlands and the chemical industries that are there the place stinks.

Other parts of NJ are very country and some areas are very high class.

NJ has substantial ethnic populations but the education system is the fourth most segregated in the nation (not by conscious design - just because each town has it's own independent housing standards and school system). This is maintained by financing local governements and schools from local property taxes (although most NJ residents aren't aware that the segregation is evident or that the property tax support for schools is an enabler).

More later.

NJ is one of the first places immigrants move to after arriving in the US through New York City.

NJ has a substantial population of Italian-Americans (Americans with Italian heritage).

NJ has a substantial population of Jewish-Americans.

NJ has a substantial population of German-Americans.

NJ has a substantial population of Irish-Americans.

NJ has a substantial population of Arab-Americans.

Etc. Etc. Etc.

Lots of ethnic and mixed neighborhoods.

The German American Bund and the Ku Klux Klan held a joint meeting in Andover NJ in 1940. :)

Local Jews and others formed a group called the Minutemen in the late 1930s that protested and boycotted and also beat the crap out the Nazis and the KKK as much as possible in NJ and NY. :)

The Mafia is said to have homes and estates in NJ. :(

The countryside is beautiful. :)

There are big parks and wildlife refuges. :)

Rolling hills and many woods. :)

Rustic towns. :)

It's great! (w00t)

I love NJ! :shifty:
