July 22, 200619 yr AMD to buy ATI? Did a search on the forums and nothing turned up, so hopefully it might be of some interest to somebody besides me ( I have an AMD processor and an ATI card). It does seem unlikley like it said in the report due to a likely conflict with Nvidia and that AMD heve expansion plans.....but who know's?
July 22, 200619 yr I will buy both companies for 53 dollars(US of course) and this cupcake. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
July 22, 200619 yr If that goes through it'd be interesting to see what it does to the gaming market. Stand Your Convictions and You Will Walk Alone.
July 22, 200619 yr It would not be good for competition, methinks ... if it precludes the mix and match of Intel - ATi and AMD - nVidia. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
July 22, 200619 yr Rumors about the AMD-ATi merger/buyout have been doing the rounds for the past couple of months. The primary question is whether AMD has enough cash to buy ATi. The latest buzz at the Inq is that both companies are going to ask their stockholders for their opinions.
July 22, 200619 yr That sucks. I like ATI the way it is. There are times when I hate capitalism. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
July 23, 200619 yr Hmm. Can't say I like this potential merger. It's not like there's enough competition out there right now. Two giants mergin only means even less competition. I guess we'll have to trust XGI to come through.. right. Just as ATI is introducing their first GDDR4 memory modules on their cards (X1950XT), XGI reaches DDR2!!1 Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
July 23, 200619 yr Confirmation: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3453 ...AMD will buy a majority of ATI shares...I wonders how this'll go o'er with Nvidia, since AMD an' theys has been bosom buddies now fer awhile... ...WHO LUVS YA, BABY!!... A long, long time ago, but I can still remember, How the Trolling used to make me smile. And I knew if I had my chance, I could egg on a few Trolls to "dance", And maybe we'd be happy for a while. But then Krackhead left and so did Klown; Volo and Turnip were banned, Mystake got run out o' town. Bad news on the Front Page, BIOweenia said goodbye in a heated rage. I can't remember if I cried When I heard that TORN was recently fried, But sadness touched me deep inside, The day...Black Isle died. For tarna, Visc, an' the rest o' the ol' Islanders that fell along the way
July 23, 200619 yr I am probably one of the few that doesn't think this is necessarily time for all doom and gloom. If any segment suffers, it's the graphics segment though, not the CPU segment.
July 24, 200619 yr That sucks. I like ATI the way it is. There are times when I hate capitalism. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This just sounds like commie speak. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
July 24, 200619 yr At the same time, there's also the possibility that technologies will then be shared that can improve both ATI graphics cards and AMD CPUs. I don't think it's a stretch to think that ATI improved when it acquired ArtX or nVidia when they acquired 3dfx. Edited July 24, 200619 yr by alanschu
July 24, 200619 yr Good riposte, Jimmy! I hadn't considered the implications of adhering to a common graphic standard, and at least a mobo that can run both SLi and CrossFire. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
July 24, 200619 yr I knew it! You are ATI's former owner aren't you, Alan? "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands. Heja Sverige!! Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
July 24, 200619 yr You can't! AMD graphics cards will not run with Intel processors! J/k ... I don't really know... all I know is that Intel just pulled the plug on ATi- um.. AMD's license to manufacture chipsets for Intel processors... duh. I guess they will all stick to PCI-express standards. The only thing is that ATi (AMD) won't manufacture chipsets for Intel any more, and NVidia won't make chipsets for AMD (ATi) any more.
July 24, 200619 yr I doubt NVidia will sell out. They have always had grand plans... plans to extend far beyond GPU technology, plans to far surpass Intel and AMD.
July 24, 200619 yr There is a joke about the Terminator in here somewhere. Lou Gutman, P.I.- It's like I'm not even trying anymore!http://theatomicdanger.iforumer.com/index....theatomicdangerOne billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the galaxy. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there.
July 24, 200619 yr So what will happen if I pair an ATI with a Pentium? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Probably something similar to you using an ATI chip with an nVidia motherboard chipset.
July 24, 200619 yr So what will happen if I pair an ATI with a Pentium? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Probably something similar to you using an ATI chip with an nVidia motherboard chipset. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ...which works really well in my case. July 24, 200619 yr I'd be much more concerned with video cards not working with motherboard chipsets than video cards not working with CPUs. And that hasn't really been an issue.
