Senator Ted Stevens on The Internets!

Very funny. Stewart always delivers. He's a rare exception: a politcal funny man who is more funny than political.

That said, gambling is bad for a community. Well, I guess it's good for Las Vegas because it let's the community there siphon money away from the community here. However, gambling causes a lot of mayhem. It's something that needs careful consideration. Just ask Las Vegas metro.

Why is online gambling worse than regular gambling? If they're going to ban some kind of gambling they better be ready to ban all of it.

Oh, and it was funny. Especially the bit in the end that was courtesy of Ted Stevens' brain.

I agree that gambling is bad altogether. However, enforcing guidelines on online gambling is harder, especially where the parties involved cross state or national boundaries. It's a matter of regulation.

Frankly, I don't like gambling in any form. Oh, don't get me wrong. I don't rail against it or make it my number one priority in life. I'll go to the tables and spend five dollars gambling on rare occasions. Where it is legal, I might actually gamble every now and then.

However, easy access to gambling leads to problems for a substantial number of citizens. I'm not the problem. Most folks here aren't the problem. ...But gambling is bad news. State run lotteries at least keep the money in the country. Of course, that doesn't mean that the money in the country helps the state or local community in the least. Las Vegas is a black hole for money from surrounding states that could be used at home. In fact, the money folks spend in Las Vegas could be used to support the local economy as well as increase the local and state coffers. Instead, it enriches Vegas.

It eases my mind to know that the most powerful country in the world is run by such highly educated people.

Sweden's government is no better, the recent Net-Pirate debate has proved one thing.. that the politicians have no clue about the internets!...

What do you want?.. blink.gif

It is more dangerous because the internets doesn't seem real. We all know we say stuff online we wouldn't in RL. Either brave stuff or cowardly. Well I reckon people are probably worse online with gambling for similar reasons.

I enjoy gambling, BTW. I love a good poker night amongst friends, and gamble with business. It's an integral part of ghuman behaviour. NOt just something which happens around a table.

Didn't we have this discussion already?  Ted Stevens represents Alaska, the 3rd least populated state in the country.  I'm more worried about that senator from West Virginia.

Did we? Care to link that, Hurlie?

Anyway, he's not just the senator from anywhere USA, he's the head of the senate committee committed to regulating this stuff.

DENMARK!

It appears that I have not yet found a sig to replace the one about me not being banned... interesting.

Well, I agree with everyone that Ted Stevens is completely out of it, but the folks who use this as a chance to US bash don't know much about our government. And he may be the head of a committee, but that doesn't mean he really has power. Committees are a dime a dozen in Washington, as are politicians. He's just an old coot that Alaska has likely forgotten about.

no it's moosen! like Boxen! or OXEN!

anyway... I have to question what strom thurmond would have said about the internets. ok I admit bad joke

again, anyway... Gambleing is in my view no worse or more dangerous than drinking. and drinking is probably the more damaging of them because it can lead you to killing where as gambleing can lead to you selling useless crap in your attic. I have been through vegas, It's interesting given that everything (even the little kwiky mart) has a slot. what really strikes me is that your not supposed to let a minor near those machines but they are so prolific and they are designed to practically attract minors. anyway I don't gamble. I will use a casino as a hotel but nothing else.

That's not a gambling problem, that's a regulation problem. ;)
