Todd Snider - Looking for a Job

Nice dude, great song...I saw this guy open for John Prine a few months ago, he was one hell of a performer and since I have picked up all of his albums.

Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore- John Prine (long song title I know, but fortunately, the song is good)

I'm still getting into the new CD. Right now that's my favorite on there, although the song about Phil Ochs is pretty awesome too.

I've seen both him and Prine on their own solo shows, both fantastic storytellers and folk-rockers. The Snider show was in the heart of Appalachia... what a great crowd.

My dad really liked that album. I don't think he likes too many other FB&TC albums that I've shown him, but he really liked that one.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the galaxy. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there.

I am fooling you! Because I do have a live vocal version of that song!

Around a year or so ago, maybe 8 or 9 months ago, at FrankBlack.net we (they, I didn't contribute anything) had a thread and we'd post links to yousendits that had bootleg live stuff, and other unreleased Frank songs. I got a lot of good material that month or so that we (they) had it running.

I've just checked out a couple songs from Frank Black and I'm pretty undecided about it overall. It's strange, it seems so totally different to the Pixies music, which is probably to be expected, but I totally can't decide whether I like it or not.

Ahhhh, I see.

Far be it from me to criticize the rotund bard, but I always thought "Blast Off" from Dog in the Sand sounded like a fleshed-out version of "Tossed" done in the Catholics style.

Which leads me to wonder if one song morphed into another, like some sort of musical werewolf!

I hear this is gonna be in that new GTA-ish 360 game, Saints Row.

Well, Wikipedia says,

The soundtrack will include songs from Ghostface, Rhymefest, David Banner, Xzibit, Daz Dillinger, De La Soul, Method Man, Clipse, Masta Ace, Little Brother, Strong Army Steady and Sy Smith. In total, the game features 12 radio stations and over 130 music tracks.

Pretty cool. Too bad I haven't touched a video game in weeks and have no intention of buying an X-Box. Bill's a nice guy, I guess, good luck to him.

Am I the only one who strongly prefers 1965-era Afghan Whigs? Man, that's one soulful album.

Up all night, again

Az for sleep, no comprende

I don't sleep 'cuz sleep iz the cousin of death

Least that's what Nas say

Sleep iz a state of mind

And to know iz to be on your way

I bought some bad drugs

Off these snotty little rave kids I met

And I shuffled off to Buffalo

I like the NY State of Mind reference.

Frank Black - If Your Poison Gets You "Fast Man/Raider Man (Disc 1)"

I can't decide if i like this album or not, some of the songs are true masterpieces (like this one), while some are just meh. It's always the same with double albums :-

Not at all. 1965 is my favorite Whigs album (and the first one I bought, too). John the Baptist was the song that got me into them. I believe "The Critics" like Gentlemen the most, probably for the raw lyrical material. I think their other albums are great too, but the band hadn't completely distanced itself from that grungy-rock sound yet. They experimented with the trashy organ and porn-flick guitar on Black Love, but you still had some of that punky swagger, like on "My Enemy."

1965 ripped the tether and let it fly off into a funky soul wonderland.

Iron Maiden - Brighter than a Thousand Suns

From their up coming album quite good(well, the beginning and ending were) long Iron Maiden song. "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg" was also pretty good, but "Different World" was quite lame.

Frank Black and the Catholics--Hermaphroditos Is My Name

Double posting because I just found this little gem.

Great song. As far as FB's post-Pixies work goes, I am a big fan of Teenager of the Year and Dog in the Sand, the album from which that song hails. FB's first solo album is excellent as well, although it could have done with a little less cheesy keyboard.

The eponymous FB&TC album is up and down but it has some great songs too. Show Me Your Tears is very good, it's the most country of his releases I've heard. I wasn't overly impressed with Honeycomb and I haven'et heard the new one yet. Most people steer clear of Pistolero, so I haven't bought that one. One of these days, I'll pick up Black Letter Days and Devil's Workshop...

Am I forgetting any of them?
