Dark_Raven Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I could argue that all of those problems exist in console games, too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course they do. PC suffer the same thing depending on your bloody set up. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

I don't find things like sound, crashing, stuttering issues acceptable. I'm not trying to say that all PC games are broken, I have plenty of games that are working. Quiet a few tooks official patches however. Anyways, you said that a superior PC setup would give you a better gaming experience over a console player with the same game. That's is not necessarily true. Edited May 17, 2006 by Haitoku
Darque Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Truth be told, I don't think I've ever ran across a broken PC game.... well... MOO3 would count... but that'd be more screwed up beyond all description...
Hassat Hunter Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Never encountered a game killing bug in K2 or K1 Kotor1 had the Galaxy Droid Kotor2 has 2 (original PC:1). Both have the Onderon palace ofcourse, but X-Box also has "Citadel Station Gamestopping Glitch". Since this one was not on PC and equelness was needed we got "Secret Academy Gamestopping Glith" in our Bug Pack 1.0B Do you wan't my list of Kotor2 bugslists BTW? It is pretty large (for only 3 runthroughs through a game atleast)... ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. Volourn Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 (edited) Really, really gonna cost me. Almsot gotta completely rework my entire computer to run at this at higher than minimum (minimum simply isn't good enough for the NWN series)... At least $400-$500... Argh.. As for the other issue, all games are buggy. PC games being the buggiest... but, they have patches. ... It all evens out. We all win. We all lose. It's all game over. LoneWolf16 Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Showstoppers are just as individual as the system of the gamer. Some people get them, a lot don't. Darque Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I gotta admit that I am curious... just how buggy was K1 and K2?
Llyranor Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I had minimal issues with both. K1 was already patched when I got it, but I had no real problems going through K2 unpatched. Both had gamestopping bugs on the Xbox, apparently - which, obviously, no patch could fix. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
LoneWolf16 Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Both of mine were fine, except for minor annoyances, like speed staying on indefinitely unless you messed with it...but nothing too serious. Haitoku Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I never had major problems with KOTOR I/II. Played the first after all the official patches and I managed to play KOTOR II all the way through without any problems before the official patch. Only noticed some very strange performance issues in KOTOR II.
Dark_Raven Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I gotta admit that I am curious... just how buggy was K1 and K2? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not at all in my experiance. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Hassat Hunter Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 As for the other issue, all games ar ebuggy. PC games being the buggiest... but,t hey ahve patches. ... It alle evns out. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease... Showstoppers are just as individual as the system of the gamer. Some people get them, a lot don't. Depends. Alot of "showstoppers" are actually system-independant and everybody can get them... IF the right curcumstances are met. PS:T Closed Printshop. Kotor2 Onderon Palace. Telos Academy. Dungeon Siege2 Eisles' Crystals or some cutscene skipping. Ending of X3. Kotor1 Galaxy Droid. GTA:SA Closed Garage bug etc. etc. etc. I gotta admit that I am curious... just how buggy was K1 and K2? I got Kotor1 when the 1.2 was released. Applied it right away. Didn't notice that many bugs when running through it. Kotor2 I got at release and noticed ALOT of bugs (system independant). More and more bugs crawled up with 1.0B though; which is the reason I don't use it... ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. Kaftan Barlast Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 And remeber that the most important thing is the GFX, you can come a loong way with a less-than-average CPU and slow RAM if youve got a fast GFX. Haitoku Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 The lower requirements are almost the same as Oblivion... That's scary. Hopefully since this is PC only, optimization will receive more attention.
astr0creep Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 K1(PC) had a nice little bug that made the game crash when loading the next area when going up the elevator to meet Malak for the first time. There was no patch for this(still isn't I think) but it could be bypassed by playing with settings and different systems required different fixes. All I had to do was lower the res, take the elevator and then bring it back up. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
themadhatter114 Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 But considering that PC-exclusives are becoming less and less common while console-exclusives are becoming more common, it's really a question of what games you want to play when it comes to determing value. And arguing that you can use your PC for Word, internet, etc. is a pointless argument because if you already HAVE a computer and you'd have to upgrade it, you'd probably save money and still have all those capabilities if you bought a console. Then again, if you don't upgrade your computer, you can't play NWN2 or Dragon Age. If you don't get a console, you can't play Mass Effect or PNJ or ... So upgrade your PC, get an X-Box 360, a PS3, and a Wii and play all the games you want.

MOO3 would count... but that'd be more screwed up beyond all description... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I never played MOO3. The vast majority of PC game players do not encounter showstopping bugs in their games; and most of the ones I have heard about were due to graphics and (more likely) sound cards; otherwise the game wouldn't sell. Recently I read a review of Stolen, which was so badly made and unfinished that the manual had place-markers still in it on release ("put character description here", etc). If you want to be pedantic, then Yes, it is possible to ship a PC game that has no chance of working. But I would counter that consoles are not immune from that, so it is a meaningless distinction. The point is that consoles give a value-for-money advantage, whereas PCs give a better graphics and sound experience. OTHERWISE no-one would buy a console nor a PC (for gaming), which is patently not the case. My original point was (which I may have overstated and compromised the accuracy for simplicity) was that if you have a high-end PC, then you will have a better gaming experience: you will have access to better graphics, better sound, the same or better controls (gamepads for PCs, or mouse-and-keyboard, respectively), as well as games that just aren't available on a console (I am currently replaying PlanentFall, for example, but I could play any game from any non-current console, too), and added content from the developers (patches) and the online communities (mods). Bearing in mind that, if you want to buy the extreme latest PC gear, the additional purchase of a console and a few games is almost negligible; so those fortunate few will have both, anyway. Kaftan Barlast Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 (edited) But considering that PC-exclusives are becoming less and less common while console-exclusives are becoming more common <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is no such thing as a "PC exclusive" just games that are not feasible to port to consoles, like FPS, CRPGs or Strategy games which dont lend themselves to playing in the couch in front of the TV. Most console games on the other hand can easily be "ported" to play on the PC but theyre kept off the PC market in order to force people to buy consoles. kirottu Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Yeah. There is no PC exclusives only games that cannot be ported to inferior platforms. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
