TOMORROW: The Hot 100 Game Developers

In a special feature, Next Generation tomorrow lists the 100 developers we feel are most influential in the game industry today.

The list includes studio heads and creative trend-setters whose games have sold the most in the last year, or whose games are most anticipated in 2006, or whose recent contribution to game design is remarkable.

You can read the full feature in Next-Gen.Biz tomorrow.

Wow. I bet the Obsidian guys are wringing their hands in anxiety! Will they get mentioned? Will they place in the top 20? Will Feargus dance the naked dance if he'sa a top ten member?!

We'll see tomorrow.

We'll see tomorrow.

I'd prefer not seeing that.

This might be interesting, although I have no doubt that mine and their view on what is hot and what's not will differ greatly.

I could bet money on Spore (and Will Wright) taking the number one spot.

Also, I could bet money on zero european developers making the list, except perhaps Rockstar (which will place extremely high, naturally).

Edit: Typo again.

Why was Molyneux orginally hailed as such a messiah, before the B&W "incident?

Was it because of his work at Bullfrog?

He designed Populous. I'd say that's pretty impressive.

On Monday Miyamoto was invited to Paris to receive a knighthood 'of the Order of Arts and Letters' from the French Ministry of Culture - the first time a videogame designer has been granted such a prestigious award.

I have to agree with Volourn.  Bioware is pretty much dead now.  Deals like this kills development studios.

Will Wright

Chief Designer, Maxis

You can make the argument that Wright is one of, if not the most, important and influential thinker working in games today. The man

Are there even 100 developers known outside the industry?

If you count the Indie-developers as "established" in the industry, then yes :)

I was pretty disappointed with the list, but it was as expected. The Xbox 360 is all the hype right now, and if you've even hinted at having a "next-gen" project ongoing, you made that list. I liked Will Wright, Feargus and a bunch of the japanese veterans, but they "forgot" an awful lot of influential talent out there and promote a bunch of mediocre Xbox 360-people.
