Xbox360

Recommended Posts

The new PS3 controller should handle fine...  It looks a bit odd, but the layout is the same.  I heard sony is doing the design again though, since it's.. you know, ugly as hell.

Yep. Paint it yellow and it's the sort of thing you would expect Nintendo to ship with a Konga game >_<

I'd prefer the same design as the PS2 (with some rounded off corners) since it was the PS and PS2 pads being almost identical which made switch so easy.

I have to agree with Volourn.  Bioware is pretty much dead now.  Deals like this kills development studios.

Well, I'm planning to get a PS3, stuff the gay-box 360. I hope K3 (if there is one) comes out on the PS3. If not, I'll just get it on PC but I prefer to play these Knights of the Old Republic games on consoles, not the PC but since I'm giving the 360 a big miss, it looks like I'll be getting it for the PC.

Isn't pirating a form of theft?

Back on topic, the original Xbox controllers are monsters.  I briefly compared my old one to the new one, and it's like 5 pounds heavier.  The new controllers are pretty easy, although I haven't had a PS2 controller in a bit so I can't make a comparison.  I really just love the fact that the wireless capability is absolutely perfect.

The only problem I've had has been the headset.  I tried to chat with my dad (we don't live close) over the headset and it was causing an odd echo.  We tried to adjust the volume, but it didn't really help.

If you get echo's with the headset just get everyone who's with you to unplug the headset and plug it back in. Works every time for me.

Just because you're a bit thinner than your even fatter mum it doesn't mean you're in excellent physical shape, if you could fit through the door and view the normal people you'd notice that cheeseburger boy. Squid suck.

It's one theory.

Someone will come in and state that it's no problem to go and get their XBOX modded or whatever, but it's certainly much more inconvenient to do it on a console than on a PC. I bet the number of unmodded consoles goes way beyond the number of modded ones. Plus it's just a so much larger installed base, that even if the ratio of piraters was exactly the same, you'd still get more sales.

This could be a shot in the dark but does the whole "consoles being more protfitable than PC" thing related to the ease (or rather difficulty) of piracy on consoles?

I think it has more to do with simplicity of use and price. PC's tend to require some knowledge to get working, whereas a console is all about putting in the disc and playing. A solid PC also costs more. Pretty much everyone has a TV, so adding a console is cheaper than buying an entire computer.

Piracy is the theft of copyrighted Intellectual Property.

Legally, it REALLY ISN'T. It's copyright infringement.

You can argue the morality of it till your blue in the face, and I'm not condoning anything, but it's not legally theft.

The BBCs got my back

So again LEGALLY, it isn't theft. It's copyright infringement. If you say otherwise, you are mistaken.

Well, I consider copyright infringement to be the theft of copyrighted Intellectual Property.

I made sure to include those three words for that very reason. It might be a misnomer to use it, but not any more than equating copyright infringement with "stealing ideas."

A "better" definition would be: the unsanctioned use of copyrighted material.

Could be though it's not easy to get a console modded in the west compared to illegal filesharing that's everywhere.

I dont like consoles and I dont like console games. But if enough companies decide to be bastards and abandon the PC market then I was thinking of buying a stolen 360, chip it, and then pirate the games I want. That way neither MS or the companies who deny the sacred PC will get one dirty cent of my money.

Release the game on PC, Ill gladly buy. Make it console exclusive.. no soup for you!!

If you don't want to play and purchase console games, that's your choice, but who are you to question the companies that back them? They only give the consumer what they demand.

The bit about stealing gaming products is what really bothers me, though. Pirating does more damage to the industry than anything else. The actions of people like you affect developers such as Obsidian, Troika, and Bioware that I support.

I will not buy a console or a game specificly developed for consoles out of principle. That principle being that I do not want to support commercial giants like Microsoft or Sony, and also because I believe in the freedom of the PC.. GNU, open source and all that. Its like me not buying porn or products that are made with child-labour. By refusing to buy, Im making a statement.

So if a company makes a game console exclusive, theyve already lost me and many people like me as customers. They know that, and it is their decision and their loss. Im never ever going to support the console industry by purchasing any of their products.

However, that doesnt mean Im going to miss out on potentially good games :( And if I help spread console piracy, Im helping the PC market. It might be illegal (copyright vioilation, not theft) but sometimes youve got to stand up for what you believe in no matter what.

Oh, what a noble cause! Stealing game software, not because you're interested in playing the games for free, oh no, it's because you're trying to prove a point to the mega corporations of the world! May they tremble in fear!

Hey! No one said protesting isnt supposed to be fun :("

But this stuff is still theoretical, I dont have a console to download games to and there hasnt been a chip released for the 360 yet. And when it comes to the PC, I buy. If its a developer I support I dont wait until the game hits the rubbish bin either (at which point the publisher has already long decided if the game was a hit o no and wether to axe or reward the dev. people who do that are actually hurting devs just as much as pirates) but I pre-order long in advance.

What about Nintendo? They aren't pushing the envelope on DRM and other pseudo-security matters. They even admitted that the console isn't part of a larger corporate goal (or so they say) compared to Sony and Microsoft.
