x1Predator Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Twin warriors. One of my favorite fighting movies, but hardly anyone knows of it! If money is the root of all evil.....why is the world not destroyed?
Dark Moth Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Tora! Tora! Tora! was a way better movie than the pile of garbage that is Pearl Harbor. I loved Saving Private Ryan. I stilll can't believe it didn't win "best picture" at the Oscars. Was Shakespeare in Love really a better film than Saving Private Ryan? Most likely not. But that's why the Oscars aren't even looked on very highly even in our own country.
alanschu Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I actually felt that Shakespeare in Love was an excellent movie as well.
Surreptishus Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Saving private ryan was really boring after the beach landing but then picked up again toward the end. Shakespeare in love had boobs.
x1Predator Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Saving private ryan was really boring after the beach landing but then picked up again toward the end. Shakespeare in love had boobs. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> boobs are always good If money is the root of all evil.....why is the world not destroyed?
Dark Moth Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 (edited) I actually felt that Shakespeare in Love was an excellent movie as well. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of the two, I don't think Shakespeare in Love deserved the title more. Yes, boobs are good, but still. Not that I'm really surprised it won it. Hollywood is not very favorable towards the military or veterans, and it's never been kind to Stephen Spielberg anyway. Baley Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0120669/ By far the greatest movie released that year.
Surreptishus Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0120669/ By far the greatest movie released that year. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It would be greatest movie of 1998 had it not been for the hilarious fishoutofwater/buddycop/letslaughatracialstereotypes/kung fu movie, Rush Hour.
Dark Moth Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 (edited) http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0120669/ By far the greatest movie released that year. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Meh. A decent film, yes. A masterpiece, no. Edited March 3, 2006 by Mothman
LadyCrimson Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 (edited) There's a lot of older generation actors that really should know when to stop making movies before they make fools of themselves and ruin their vaunted reputation...tho for some it's already too late. Oh...Hooper and Sutherland were in some stupid movie about 60's nostalgia in the late 80's that was pretty cute. Not a good movie, but cute. Can't remember it's name...(eidt - Flashback, 1990...and Blue velvet is weird & over-rated) Edited March 3, 2006 by LadyCrimson “Things are as they are. Volourn Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Meh. You all suck. Pearl Harbour was a pretty darn good movie. Some people just have a habit of attacking blockbuster movies just because. I can't vouch for how (in)accurate it; but as far as drama, and action goes; PH was pretty damn good. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
alanschu Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 I actually felt that Shakespeare in Love was an excellent movie as well. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's funny, because I remember watching some show prior to the Oscars (which is funny, because I didn't watch the Oscars) in 1998, and the consensus of the panel was that the Academy was biased towards epic war movies.
LadyCrimson Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Pearl Harbor was terrible. Well, ok, not so terrible that I turned it off, but still pretty bad. Didn't help that I can't stand Benny boy, I suppose. “Things are as they are. BattleCookiee Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Pearl Harbour was a pretty darn good movie. No. Stupid propaganda. Besides that; "A, we get slaughtered" Hero of the story: "Pass me a plane" Hero of story kills about 30 Japanese fighters... while the other can only hit about 2 max...
Baley Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 (edited) That overrated baboon has 2 ****ing best director oscars, 2! While Scorsese, Fellini, Kubrick, Lumet, Bergman, Leone, Hitch****, Kurosawa, Herzog, Ozu, Altman, Tarkovski, Kitano, Jodorowsky, Truffaut and many others have seen **** from the Academy, so no, Spielberg is hardly unappreciated. alanschu Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 The "drama" of Pearl Harbour was hideous, with a final climax of "You can't die, you're going to be a father" "No...you are" because they both loved the same woman cheesiness. That and the producers felt it wouldn't be prudent to end the movie without an American victory, and felt like dragging the movie out longer by spending an hour preparing for the Dolittle raid.
Volourn Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 (edited) "No. Stupid propaganda." Eh? Propaganda? Uhuh.. I viewed it as an action blockbuster, and a FICTIONAL movies BASED on REAL events. "Besides that; "A, we get slaughtered" Hero of the story: "Pass me a plane" Hero of story kills about 30 Japanese fighters... while the other can only hit about 2 max..." And? Just like any heroic type movies like with Rambo, etc. Except PH actually had good dramatic acting as well as action. If you expected a perfect history lesson you obviously were watching the wrong movie. Edited March 3, 2006 by Volourn DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
metadigital Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Saving private ryan was really boring after the beach landing but then picked up again toward the end. Shakespeare in love had boobs. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The dimwit didn't deserve Best Actress, though. Sympathy vote because her father died of cancer and he was much loved. Pidesco Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Except PH actually had good dramatic acting. BattleCookiee Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Eh? Propaganda? Uhuh.. I viewed it as an action blockbuster, and a FICTIONAL movies BASED on REAL events. Not me. And there was bar few good action for an action movie IMO And? Just like any heroic type movies like with Rambo, etc. Except PH actually had good dramatic acting as well as action. If you expected a perfect history lesson you obviously were watching the wrong movie. Never liked Rambo either (Hot shots! Part Deux though ). "Good" drama? "Good" action? Ah, personal opinions... And I expected it to be a movie about the events of Pearl Harbor. I expected something like the begin scene of Saving Private Ryan only longer and in the pacific. Did I became fooled when there was so much crap before and after it and the scene itself was not even worth it ... and as mentioned; why the "We prevailed" ending
mkreku Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Except PH actually had good dramatic acting as well as action. Compared to the porno's you usually watch, perhaps. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
alanschu Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 The second I saw it was Bruckheimer I knew it wasn't going to be much in terms of historical accuracy or believability.
