Setzer Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) For those interested, there's going to be an open beta coming shortly. Originally it was set for today but they announced this morning that they're still trying to get the client stable and there will be a short delay, not talking weeks but just a few days. Looking forward to playing this! I'm interested to if Nival/Ubi will be able to revitalize this once great series. Here's a link to the official web site..... Setzer Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 Open beta was changed to Monday at 6pm(UK time).
Hurlshort Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 I'm looking forward to trying this. I feel like I got burned with HOMM IV, but this looks like a possible redemption. I'm glad they are offering a chance to try before I buy it too.

The Homm V demo, with all it's beta limitations was more fun to play than Homm IV. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Jumjalum Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Is this a MP beta or an everything beta? We now bring you live footage from the World Championship Staring Final.
Llyranor Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 What strengths would HOMM5 have against, say, Civ4? (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Hurlshort Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Llyranor said: What strengths would HOMM5 have against, say, Civ4? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's a fairly different type of game, really. I'm going more off my past experiences with the two series, but Civ is much more involved with economics, diplomacy, and moving along the technology tree. HOMM is more of an exploration and city siege game. You send out a hero with an army, explore and gather stuff, and then attack enemy fortresses. I'm over simplifying both games, but that's the gist of it.
Gorth Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Jumjalum said: Is this a MP beta or an everything beta? The one I tried was everything beta. 1 hero, 1 single player mission, 1 race etc. No configuration (and worse, no save game) :-" “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Rhomal Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I am very much looking forward to this. I really enjoyed HOMM series and I am certainly looking to a 3D engine of this game. The screenshots very much so pique my interest. If anyone gets on board with the beta pls do post with your impressions. Llyranor Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Wait, isn't it an *open* beta? Not everyone can get in? (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)

Setzer Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006 Well, open beta is here.....sorta. It was not once mentioned that you would need to have a GameSpy fileplanet account in order to get in but apparently open beta is exclusively to GameSpy customers for the first 3 days(Jan 23rd-26th), then it's open to everyone else. So, if you have a GameSpy account go to the link below to get in on beta now.... LINK
Hurlshort Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Woohoo, I'll get it when I get home. I love Fileplanet.
baby arm Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 You have to have a PAID Fileplanet account, though. The normal free one doesn't count. Also, you need to be aware that Starforce is part of the beta.
Hurlshort Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Yeah, paid fileplanet rocks. I've got in quite a few beta's before they open to the public. The downloads are also pretty decent.
Gabrielle Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Fileplanet? I don't like waiting in line. I want it now, not wait for hours to begin downloading.

I was able to sign up and get the beta downloaded in about 20 minutes. If you don't want to subscribe to Fileplanet then I would suggest waiting until Thursday when the beta will be open to everyone.
Judge Hades Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I just don't feeel like downloaded somethng I have to pay for when it should be free.
