Are US games compatible with European machines?

 

I'm asking this because I'm currently eBaying some PS2 games, and because I remember a time when US SNES games were different from EU ones.

I've been thinking about importing Dragon Quest 8. So you're saying that would be possible if I modded my PS2?

 

Of course, I could just wait those 8 or so months until it is released in Europe.. Sigh.
