Meshugger Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 I already know the reasons on why Jerusalem is important for the Jews and Christians. Other than the giant gold-mosque, what historic reference do Islam have to the holy city? Just curious. kirottu Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 I think both christianity and islam have their roots in judaism so from that it becomes their holy city as well. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
Dark Moth Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Islam recognizes all the prophets and their birthplaces and as the above have said, has its roots in Judaism and Christianity. However, Islam also teaches the notion that all the prophets were inheritently Muslim, not Jewish.
Kinslayer Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 (edited) All I know that the reconquest of Jerusalem was somekind of a new beginning for Islam, some cleric wrote it when he described Saladin's victories...anyways in Quran if I remember correctly Jerusalem is being refered as the 'Furthest Mosque' and that Jerusalem was the starting point of Mohammed's visit to Heaven. And don't forget one of the most famous mosque - the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, or is it the outskirts of Jerusalem? Edited December 11, 2005 by Kinslayer
Kaftan Barlast Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 (edited) The historical reason is that Palestine was, with a few exceptions like the crusades, under Arab/Muslim rule from about 635 AD up until when the Ottoman empire gave it up to the Brittish in 1922. Thats it right there. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials "I have also been slowly coming to the realisation that knowledge and happiness are not necessarily coincident, and quite often mutually exclusive" - meta
