SteveThaiBinh Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 I don't mind the one-stop shop, and I don't want to have to run around every town looking for a dozen different shops. I'd like a central market with different stalls for different types of goods, and for the inventory system to correspond with divisions of types of goods, to make the whole thing easier to manage than NWN. Sarjahurmaaja. Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 "1. Add 2 if not more types of default currency and make the standard currency silver." Read the article. Not only did you take cheap shots at the opposition, but you also left unaddressed their points: mainly, that in D&D, copper and silver stop having any meaning very early. So, why bother? I want decimals. "2. Reagents with a fairly high cost should be needed for spells." Sure, as long as the significantly more common combat in RPGs is taken into consideration. "3. Better by the book weight needs to be addressed." Oh, you silly RPG elitists -- can't even get your analogies right! "Sometimes [snip] I thought I was playing Diablo rather then a D&D based game when I looked at my inventory." You felt you were constantly running out of inventory space and left lots of expensive loot behind in order to conserve time? Never happened to me in NWN. "Fair enough, but can 9/30 -- NEVER FORGET!

kirottu Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 While I disagree with JOHNNY over there, I don't think those are the things that implementing DAVID's suggestions would detract from. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
Ellester Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 First off some of the small things in games are what make games fun. I used to always say the BG games were fun because of the small things added in the game that made it interesting. It wasn Life is like a clam. Ellester Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Now, make a suggestion why/how Obsidian should implement/use it and not the modders? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why not Obsidian? All of these issues have been implemented in games before. Toee, PS:T, the IWD games, Morrowind and Dungeon Siege have used every idea presented by Rhomal. Seems like it Life is like a clam. Ellester Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 "Why not Obsidian?" "Zots". <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well considering BIS has already implemented numbers 4 and 5 in previous games, one could assume we might see it in NWN2. Obviously some developers at Obsidian haven Life is like a clam. Years of filtering crap then some bastard cracks you open and scrapes you into its damned mouth, end of story. - Steven Erikson
Guest Fishboot Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 So why bring up these particular nit-picky features? Why not realistic sleep schedules, weapon sharpening, armor polishing, rashes from wearing plate armor every second of the day, soothing balms for those rashes, scurvy, rickets, beri beri, pellagra and so on? I see no difference between the stuff you want in sub-gold currency and armor rashes - in fact, giving players a reason not to wear 60 pounds of armor every second of their lives would in fact do much more to encourage verissimmilitude than making change. When so many elements of a game are just realism vs. fun vs. development cost judgement calls, I see no reason for an intercessionary commentary on the part of fans.
Musopticon? Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 How about a decent story and lack of munchkinism for starters? Good ideas anyway, 'Boot. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. When so many elements of a game are just realism vs. fun vs. development cost judgement calls, I see no reason for an intercessionary commentary on the part of fans. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you play some of the more popular community modules in NwN Hall of Fame, Tortured Hearts I, by SubBassman has day cycles, NPC nocturnal and diurnal behaviours, realistic gold weight (2000gp = 1 pound, iirc), and a bank for storing excess cash (fee applicable), and diverse and disparate shopping, to name a few. Rick Burton incorporates city rules, such as no shields and unsheathed weapons, in Twilight, with an automatic macro to holster weapons and shields upon entering a city, and vice versa. Of the two, I found realistic sleep patterns difficult to manage: fatigue seemed to be difficult to manage with the PC and party, so even when I wanted to sleep regularly, it always seemed to get out of synch and just be a pain. (There was no option to "sleep in", for example, so if you went to bed at 6pm you would wake at 2am!) Adam Miller's Dreamcatcher 3 started off in an under-city dungeon diseased and weak, with no weapons, armour, health, food nor light source: a brilliant idea (and one that my Monk class PC excelled at. ) Multiple currencies is more trouble than it's worth. I'm all for adding weight to gp; it's kinda silly that a munchkin can kill an ancient red dragon and then scoop up all the ph47 1007 and walk back to town, without a hernia or an angry rogue in sight ... Ellester Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 This, in my opinion, is actually nothing like what EDGAR suggests in the article. Did you read it? As a sidenote, something like that was what I wanted to hear from QUINCY, but instead, in his article he merely suggested a game mechanic but no uses for it. Now, it seems, is a good time to back to your question ("Why not Obsidian?") with a more proper answer -- I do not wish to see "zots" wasted on features that do not contribute to the whole -- in fact, I'd rather see these "zots" left unused. Why? Because features that do not contribute to the whole are liable to detract from it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sure I read it, that Life is like a clam. Sarjahurmaaja. Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 "Regardless of what we think little insignificant things that have nothing to do with the overall gameplay or story will be in NWN2, because BIS (and Bio) have always done it. It adds flavor to the game. I 9/30 -- NEVER FORGET!
