No,

Anyways I always use shortings (even for a game with 6 letters " )

Usually I just play the game and then if I want to talk about it either

1. Use First Letter of Words

2. Or just use one of the titles, instead of both (or more);

So instead of The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind: Tribunal Expension pack (just an example) I just say Tribunal...

... Or how about K1 and K2 ?

As long as it is in context, I see no problem with abbreviations.

Then again, I used to work for IBM, and they are almost as fetishist about acronyms as the armed forces. (It comes from having to quickly create accurate descriptions for complex concepts; it just isn't practical to make up snappy little proper nouns for everything, and it defeats the purpose.)

For example, if they called K1 "Revan" and K2 "Gizka's Revenge"? Would that be better? You would then have to spend even more effort to explain that it is a sequel to a game with a totally different name. And then there would be those who would argue that it wasn't intended to be a sequel, because it was named differently.)

I just dont understand why every game needs a 'subtitle'. Some games names do fine on their own. Boiling Point (:Road To Hell) springs to mind. And I absolutely hate when you go to some site where you can review games and you have a 200 word limit, and when you've typed the entire game title, half of those are spent already.

It's not. Rubbish, that is.

Titles, schmitles. You can just use abbreviations.

I agree about the subtitle thing. Is it really necessary? I mean, nobody ever felt the need to put a subtitle on Civilization II or III, so why put one on KotOR 2?

Not that it bothers me all that much. In fact, I hardly even think about it. :-"

Uh huh. I am still wondering how much sales Divine Divinity lost just because of the name (which wasn't the game's original name, but a name thought up by marketing executives..).

I'd say quite a lot better, actually. Less memorable, perhaps, but in a good way.

But it seems to have sold well enough, anyway. At least, I assume so, since they made a sequel.

I started it and played until I think about the middle. It was OK but not great, so I kept playing in the hope that it would get better, but it seemed to be getting worse and I stopped.

technically the title for jedi academy should be Star Wars: Dark Forces: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Academy.

But becasue nobody really remembers dark forces they pulled that part of the name. If you go by offical stuffy yes names are getting too long.

Isn't the subtitle thing some kind of marketing religion? I think there was some study or somesuch that told the marketing zombies to append subtitles onto everything and now they're afraid to stop doing it, since they'll look stupid in front of all of the other baby-eaters if their unsubtitled game tanks.

And as to Divine Divinity.... it looks and feels like a Diable clone + Generic fantasy. I mean, if I see another orc in a game I'm goint to jab my eyes out with a brooch. I think if the game had been great Divine Divinity would have been a fantastic name - very unique, euphonious, memorable.

Actually that would be Star Wars: Dark Forces 4: Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy.

But yes, that's just silly. Even more so considering that the game was more like an add-on that a true standalone game.

It was basically a jedi version of battle front. Instead of wandering around a faceless trooper you tried to kill on another with lighsabers. That was the biggest difference I noticed.

Um, no. I meant an add-on to Star Wars: Dark Forces 3: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. There was no substantial difference between those two.

Agreed.

I think Jedi Academy was a bit of a reaction to fans that were a bit disappointed that they couldn't affect Kyle's decisions like they could in the first Jedi Knight game. It was still fun to go nuts with a double-bladed saber though :D
