Yep, regardless of your score

2. If the Tiebreaker card is used to get twenty, and the computer has not stood or gotten 20 yet, and gets 20 after you've played the +1T, you end up with a true tie instead of a win.

The Tiebreaker has to be the last card played in that set.

Hey was the manual not clear on these two? Got any suggestions?

I haven't been able to DL the manual yet. My computer's been doing funky stuff with the link here, and FileFront, for whatever reason, doesn't show any mirrors that have it. I'll try again later. I've been going by my experiences in KotOR and II, where these situations have never arisen.

If you say it's supposed to be that way, then alright, but I still don't think it makes sense. Why wouldn't a tiebreaker win a tie, even if the other party gets a tie after you played it, as long as it's your last card? And why couldn't filling all nine spaces merely force the person who filled it to stand/end play immediately? The first time that happened, I was on my fourth game in Arcade mode, 2 wins to 2 wins, I had a score of twenty, and the computer suddenly played 2 cards from it's hand, ended up at 28... and got the win because it had filled up all nine spaces. That's not a win, it's a cheap shot.

If you really do want it (it's not like you really need it anyway) then send me a PM and I'll e-mail it to you.

Well I'm just trying to model the game as best as possible and that tie-breaker also took me by suprise in KotOR 2. So what happens when both players play Tie-Breakers? Tie...maybe...anyway point is...too bad, LOL.

In Pazaak Online (the first in the Pazaak Project) the 9-card win tool was infact auto-stand if you filled up the last spot, but then was changed when K2 was released and I found out about the rule.

...2 wins to 2 wins, I had a score of twenty, and the computer suddenly played 2 cards from it's hand, ended up at 28...

uh...are you sure? Cos if it finished on 28 after filling up 9 slots then it should've bust and you win.

btw once I send my graphics card in for a fan repair (bloody hell, no gaming anymore) I'm thinking of implementing the K2 AI process described by Akari in an earlier Pure Pazaak thread

Well, all right, if that's the way it is in KotOR, then I guess that's the way it should be. These situations never arose any time I played Pazaak in the games.

It just didn't make sense to me, and after losing six or more sets to this, it got really irritating. I'll just keep playing until I figure it all out.

I did get the manual from FileFront, this time. Must have been a temporary thing.

I also noticed the game crashed on me once when I ended up with a negative total once (9 card total wound up being -4). Seeing that it crashed in the program, I dare to actually attempt that in K2

I'm pretty sure I fixed that, lol. But I'll check again.

Well since the Pazaak AI question to Devs thread got moved here may as well announce what's happening. Basically I've modularized the AI so you can choose what AI to use.

Right now there are only two AI's:

- the original, all-conquering Pure Pazaak AI I wrote which a couple of people said is too hard >_<

- a beta-ish version of the actual AI used in K2, described by Akari here; which is the one being clarified in that moved Pazaak AI thread.

Right now, unless I get any input on this here, will probably make the K2 AI selectable in "Arcade" mode only.

as a general rule, I think any minigame in the introductory worlds should be fairly simple and straightforward (and easy enough to win).

the middle game is pretty open (as in non-linear) so it would be hard to have a progressively better AI in the middle section of the game but I think there should always be at least 2 patrons who will play you Pazaak in a bar...one who is a novice and one who will take your money (unless you exploit every trick in the book)...just my take.

I am also not a big fan of bringing your own deck and sideboard. I think it much more realistic is this were a "bank game" (like Blackjack) in which the house is always the dealer (and the deck is a finite pool based on what a Pazaak deck is...that should be defined at some point...you form your sideboard and your deck out of what you are dealt) and that allows several players to join in at one time. Hmmm, two variants of Pazaak: a one-on-one game and a casino-style game.

Fluffwise, that could explain why we see NPCs in K1 with names like "Shady Rodian" who sell you Pazaak cards. If the proper game is played with a house, then nobody should really have their own cards...no one except a scoundrel of some kind.

Version v1.2.0 Released

- Feature: Selectable AI process for Arcade mode (and "modular" AI's in general)

- Feature: Option to switch back to Suvam Tan in Arcade mode after unlocking...*mumble*

- Fix: Re-worked the Network turn process to include an ACK signal to prevent "Lost turn bug"

- Fix: Some corrections to the manual

- Other: Tweaked card sell prices; Specials sell for more, others less

- Other: Re-introed version tolerance in netplay (ofcourse newest and matching versions is best)

- Other: comctl32.ocx and the manual are now included with the full download

The download now includes the comctl32.ocx file which heaps of people seem to need and the manual (with some rather obvious mistakes corrected).

I've re-allowed the tolerance in different versions in netplay; that is, games from the same generation can play with each other. For example, v1.1.4 can play with v1.1.5, but v1.2.0 can't play with v1.1.5, (because of the turn acknowledgement feature), thus the change to v1.2.0. Just be weary though that I may have missed something so best to always have the latest and matching versions.

Here is the updated manual as a separate download (same as the one in the v1.2.0 download):

Pure_Pazaak_Manual__8_02_2006_.pdf

Again, all comments, bugs, suggestions, whatever, welcome! :(

There's a bug in v1.2.0 where the fix of the "lost turn" network bug has created a new "double-turn" bug, where just like the old one, a player may end up getting dealt two cards in a row instead of just one, and usually busts them. A fix is being tested and should be out soon. Well at least it's better than the "lost turn" bug since the game can at least continue.

As a little example of what I mean about sharing portraits mentioned in the manual, here's my pic:

Edit: The fix didn't work >_< so it'll be a bit longer :(

Thanks for your work on this, the first time I played it I thought Pazaak was a pretty nift idea, and the more I played it the more I realised what a great game it was. Thanks for putting it into the hands of anyone who wants it.

Version v1.2.1 Update Released

- Fix: (I think) for the double-turn bug which has come up from the lost-turn fix

Well I tried to fix the double-turn bug again after like I said the first test didn't work but this time I've only tested it by myself.

Also for those who have not seen the first post "index" for a while I've added a little section for player pics (see the manual if you aren't sure what I'm talking about).

Edit: Just played about 8 to 10 games with my cousin and it worked fine  :D

Think this can be stickied " ?

As you can see there isn't much work happening on Pure Pazaak cos I'm outta new ideas and no one has put forward any either. Then it ends up getting "lost" and new members won't see.

I've found the most puny/smallest/most insignificant bug that I probably won't be bothered fixing unless I somehow clean up on all the Uni study-work I have.

If you play a flip card and then later invert it, it will show "+-" once you stand. You can easily re-create this bug in Arcade by playing a +3 flip card, then playing the 3&6 inverter card, then standing.

Version v1.2.2 Update Released :)

- Fix: Got the inverter cards working properly

- Fix: Tried to make quitting games mid-game/transition less volatile

Uhh, in plainer English I fixed up the inverters and tried to make it much less buggy when you quit during a game and stuff is still going on.

FileFront is currently down for maintenance so I've attached a copy to this post.

Note to new players: If you're new to Pure Pazaak you need to download the latest base version (v1.2.0) before using this update:

Also uploading to something like FreeUploader and updating the website now. Also got to get a mod to fix up the thread title  .

Awesome, I just found this today by chance.

It's great fun, but, I think starting off in campaign mode is too tough the way it is. The AI is VERY strong, and Deadeye starts off with an enormous advantage by having big Minus cards in his side deck. If he's supposed to be the easy guy, either give him just Plus cards OR let us buy some ourselves right off the bat.

I'm reasonably sure that my Pazaak instincts are sound, and I do well in Kotor 1&2, but the way Deadeye plays feels "weird," - as is the force is disturbed around him. Maybe it's just my record of 7-17 against him that's disturbing me. :)

I want him to minus rather plus cos it's just much more comical Deadeye style this way.

Now that it's possible/easy to interchange AI's I can write a very....gifted AI for Deadeye to offset this? What does everyone think about this?

btw what do people/you think of the AI in general then like in Arcade mode when you have all the cards?
