Oerwinde
Well, my roommate used to drink about 8 pots of coffee a day, until he started getting abdominal pain and saw a doctor. The doctor said that the coffee/caffiene had caused his prostate to swell to a point that it might kill him if he didn't cut down. Now he only drinks 2 pots a day. Calax
here's what ive found so far... Low levels of caffeine may decrease performance on complex cognitive tasks. To test this hypothesis 63 psychology students participated in a study examining the effects of 45 mg of caffeine on the Stroop task. The participants consumed either a 12-oz (355-ml) can of Coca-Cola or a 12-oz (355-ml) can of caffeine-free Coca-Cola. A short questionnaire was then answered by the participants, after which they completed a computerized version of the Stroop task. We observed that women had slower reaction times than men (p < .001), and that the effects of caffeine were sex specific, having a significant effect only on men (p < .01). We also found a significant main effect of display (p < .001), and an interaction between sex and display (p < .05), which occurred only in the conflict condition of the Stroop task. These sex differences may reflect the lipid-soluble nature of caffeine. The decreased performance in the caffeine group can be explained by the Yerkes-Dodson law. From:http://www.psichi.org/pubs/articles/article_276.asp Description of Caffeine (and its effects) Description of Caffeine (and its effects) Caffeine is classified as a central nervous system stimulant. Ingested in moderate doses, caffeine can increase alertness; it also can increase the amount of time it takes to fall asleep, cause headaches and nervousness, and reduce fine motor coordination. Caffeine enters the bloodstream via the stomach and small intestine. Its effects can begin as quickly as 15 minutes after it is ingested. 213374U
Sleeplessness. For most adults who have been caffeine-free for about 24-hours, a 200 mg dose of the stimulant - approximately the amount contained in two cups of coffee - can fight off fatigue. It can also extend the time necessary to pass through the early stages of slumber into deep sleep. Given caffeine's long half-life, if you drink several cups of coffee to ward off midday sleepiness, you may find yourself awake at 10 p.m. You've got to be freaking kidding. - When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast. metadigital
As a stimulant, it is possible it may depress the libido, as in the case of amphetamines. It probably affects sperm motility; I've no idea if it affects ova in any way. (Nicotine causes low-birthweight and premature neo-natals, and this in turn has been shown to affect mental aptitude years later ...) I would query the results of the psychological test cited in your post, too. From personal experience, I know that my physical fitness has more of an impact on any mental exercise than any drug; the somatopsychic effects of a good cardiovascular system (after all the brain uses OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT

Walsingham
I don't know of any papers that might help you. But have you considered the possibility that caffeine might be helpful to some people and not others? From what I recall caffeine boosts levels of activity in the frontal lobes. The bits of the brain that control learned responses, and basically most everything else going on in your bonce. Increased control COULD be useful, depending on whether it was needed. On the other hand, if the person was uptight in bed, then it might just make things worse. :"> "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete.
