I don't understand what happened to the stormtroopers. They used to be so bad a** during the Clone Wars. Did they just stop trying?

I laughed - where does that put me? I never minded the ewoks even though they were annoying and i skip bits of the film with them in it (except when luke and co. first go to the village.) I like their language.
