EnderAndrew
We played an "Avatar" game using the White Wolf rules a while back. The group created characters for everyone using consensus to assign ourselves stats. We created ourselves as the normal mortals we are, and the storyteller enacted upon us events that thrust us into origin stories of our now fictional lives as supernatural creatures in the aforementioned World of Darkness. The storyteller had me embraced as a Malkavian, and I wasn't entirely happy about the affair. However, all and all, it was a unique role-playing experience. Roger
Our innate intelligence, along with virtually all of our innate attributes, are decided long before we are born; bestowed upon us by the capricious nature of fate. The storyteller had me embraced as a Malkavian, and I wasn't entirely happy about the affair. However, all and all, it was a unique role-playing experience. Now that I can relate to. My primary attribute would probably be strength. That's certainly nothing to be proud of, and since there are too many specialists in the suburbs alone -- I won't give myself too high of a rating either. Walsingham
Like I said earlier, I agree that personal quality doesn't come in D&D stats. Personal quality to me is stuff like consistency, and tact, and grit and determination. The more I think about it, the more I see the D&D stats as like guns. "Oh, I'm in a social situation. Good thing I have a charisma of 18! The most powerful charisma in the world. Ka-POW KaPOW! Hah! You love me now, don't you bitches?" I also think we've highlighted another problem. People don't know their own characteristics. Why should our characters? I always maintain that my fighting PCs are world class bongo players, but have never seen a a bongo. I think that games, particularly computer games, could have the stats be secret, and then you just have some pointers from past history (perhaps modified by good or bad wisdom) and then part of the game is finding out. Cantousent
HAHAHAHA That had me laughing out loud. "Ka-POW" It's true, though, the player knows the character's stats. The character doesn't. I don't see any workable way to resolve the difference, though. 213374U
Only responsible role-playing on the players' part and the GM discouraging metagaming can solve that. - When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast. EnderAndrew
So often, D&D is just a big numbers game anyway. It might as well be a slot machine. Keep through CR and hope you survive and win the jackpot on your random treasure encounter. Do this enough times and get an epic character. But you're right, the average forum monkey will likely not take that the entire test, once the questions become difficult. Roger
I'd say those numbers are a classic case of the 'internet d1ck' syndrome. 13 minutes left after finishing, and I clearly stated that intelligence isn't my forte -- as a testament to that, I did the test while watching TV. :D Going to be 22 in a couple of days; looks like my IQ is increasing, point by point. Most likely they can't, but we already know that. We already know that lots of people live in a perpetual state of self-delusion. So, again, why do you care? Walsingham
I am not going to do the IQ test because a) I am not convinced there is any such thing as intelligence. There is merely expertise, and self-confidence. b) IQ tests were invented by scientists funded by Nazi-sympathetic think-tanks, and used in eugenics programs. c) I've taken far too many IQ tests over the years and they all say I am much smarter than I have any right to be, or indeed think I am.
