Ace Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 Since the KOTOR liscense, and items along with it such as Pazaak, are owned by Lucasarts who would be the person to contact to ask for permission to do a freeware Pazaak game? A java web applet, with the option of being against an AI or hotseat.
jaguars4ever Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 I'm ashamed to admit that if such a thing existed/came into existance, I'd probably play it. :">
Ace Posted February 26, 2005 Author Posted February 26, 2005 Hrmm... I hoped that someone with authority here would reply with some contact info on who to ask to get permission to make this freeware game. I've heard horror stories about Lucasarts shutting down such projects, so being on the safe side and getting permission was the first thing that came to mind. Anyway, the idea is that with the game everyone gets a starter deck, and you win new cards when you win a game. You'd get different 'tiers' of cards when you earn more points. Bets would be based on the points you have.
ILs Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 Btw... I've already made a paper-version of Pazaak (w00t) yet I can't figure out the right ballance between cards...

Feargus Urquhart Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Don't take what I am going to say as endoresement, allowance, approval or anything else that says you should do anything without contacting LucasArts or discussing with a lawyer. Having said that, in general most publishers allow people to make things like a Pazaak game as long as they don't make money off of it through sellling the item itself or having it drive advertisement revenue that they receive any amount of on the site that hosts it. Again, this not approval to do what you are doing in any way shape or form. Just a comment on what I have seen in the past. Feargus Urquhart CEO Obsidian Entertainment, Inc.
Rosbjerg Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 I love how diplomatic you have to be when you are in a position where your words can be used against you .. hehe and like Mr. Urquhart said.. you do see these things all over the net, even people using various game engines to make small games .. Fortune favors the bald.

Well said Feargus Tsel :D

Ace Posted March 20, 2005 Author Posted March 20, 2005 Thanks for the reply I was sort of hoping that there was an official channel that people generally contacted to clear things, especially after hearing about how... picky Lucasarts is with fan projects related to their liscenses.
