Beat this game earlier today, 24 hours played or something?. I did no third party modification or cheating, and ended as a level 27 guardian/weapon master (light side) with 42 some strength.

The game was fairly challenging (I played in difficult mode the entire time through) at the beginning, but after I made my light saber, my character turned into a veritable god. At this point, I was capable of killing 4 out of 5 'normal' mobs in one flurry(or round), most bosses/named took two rounds, and I could probably count on my fingers the enemies that took three rounds to kill.

SPOILER:

As an example, the Sith Lords in the final level took two rounds every time, the 'sleeps with vibroblades' took 2 on each 'rejuvination', and the boss boss took 3 rounds.

Quite literally for the last level, I could use force speed(no other buffs/shields/stims), run into the middle of the enemies, and let my character agro on them with the normal attack, and kill them all and be barely scratched.

The only time I had an enemy use a force ability on me was the boss boss, who did some piss weak launch thing.

END SPOILER

One thing I've noticed on the forums is that my class is apparently the weakest, mostly because of the force lightning thing that I do very poorly. I can imagine that if I had played another class and went dark side I could easily run into a room, press the number 2 twice, and clear it quickly.

Perhaps the beta testers were very poor players, but this game is terribly easy. I'm playing around with Kotor_Tool now, so maybe I can make it tough enough to go again and be dark side.

Really what this game needs is another difficulty setting that has twice as many mobs with twice as much health that do twice as much damage. That'd be the lazy way.

The proper way would be to make adjustments based upon how well the player is doing, if he's beating the **** out of the mobs like I do, make them tougher etc, some games have had this and it's nice.

My question is this: Are other players experiencing such an easy game? Also, is there any way to up the difficulty, any third party programs that do this? Patches? Anything?

Yes, the general consensus is that the game is too easy. Perhaps someone will mod it later? Nothing to be done at the moment.

Well, games are always easy, games are technically for entertainment, not testing our brains (that is what chess and word games are for).

So i don't agree that the difficulty should be based on the players skills, Homeworld II tried that and it made the game suck for me.

It calculated how much resources you had and tripped it, multiplied the total resources with the resource cost of the ships you had and spawned ships that countered yours and sent them the moment you started and while they are virtually vaporizing your ships, the AI is building more, completely violating the shiptype limit by ALOT. (if Kotor III had something like this, i would hate the game and probably the developers as well) But this is just my opinion.

I went Guardian / SithLord and it was an uphill struggle the entire time :)

I used a single Saberand got whatever skills and force powers i liked but in the end, i was struggling. I kill wipe rooms full of enemies easily, throwing off a Force Storm and Death Feild, but when it got down to combat with say three Sith Marauders in the [spoilers] Trayus Academy [/spoilers] then i was needing sheilds, Force Energy resistance master and more than likely health packs at the end of it as against three people Death Feild sucks the big one

Meh maybe im lucky and got a harder version than you on the game, [/sarcasm] but maybe being a Guardian Weaponsmaster with 42 strength is what your complaining about. Surely you knew if you chose 2 lightsaber combat classes and coupled that with purely dumping your attributes into strength you would kill them in the odd 2 hits?

It sounds like your complaining about your Character being overpowered than the game being too easy :)

that is why i never pick the strongest classes in any RPG.

in this case, i will likely pick Sentinel/Watchman, right smack, bam in the centre.

Go for the two extremes if you want a fight

Guardian/ SithLord / Jedi Master with a single lightsaber i imagine to be the toughest, go for it :)

They all end up being pretty easy since the BAB progression is the same for all classes this time around. Your consular has the same chance as your guardian to hit something. If anything, the guardian is the big loser in this game, since the other classes match him for attack chance, but he lacks the force benefits of being consular and the skill benefits of being a sentinel.

Going single saber doesn't make the game harder. To actually give the game difficulty, you have to MAKE it difficult. Here's some helpful tips:

1.play on difficult

(this goes without saying)

2.put all your stat points into inappropriate stats at creation

(if you're going guardian go all CHA and INT, and make sure your STR & DEX stay at

3.play the game naked(referring to the PC, not you the reader)

(after all, the exile is so powerful, clothes are really an unfair advantage... as are implants, headgear, shields....)

4.pick feats that don't apply to your play style

(ranged feats if you're going lightsaber)

5.play solo

(party members? more like baby-sitters)

6.decide if you're going light or dark, then pick the opposite side's feats

(of course a lightside Jedi can beat the game using lightside powers, where's the challenge in that?)

7.Don't upgrade any weapons that you use, don't go unarmed either, since "unarmed" improves so much in the game... you totally can beat down people with it.... and if you're truly hardcore, stick to something with a nice and low fixed damage... like a plasma torch

(Of course mighty Sith Lords will fall to your uber saber with long-lost crystals and a non-comedogenic finish... a true Jedi can kill anyone with a twig)

8.Your character heals naturally fast, so don't use those wussy-medpacks... or any other items except basic frag grenades.... and only if absolutely necessary.

9.The level cap in KoTOR1 was high enough, stop leveling at 20.

(just don't hit the level-up button... easy enough)

In addition, I'd recommend not using the following force powers:

Heal, Speed, Force Lightning, Force Crush

And these feats:

Flurry, Rapid Shot, Toughness

The game will still be easy, but perhaps that will help somewhat.

Yes, it's damn easy.

Yet I refuse to turn my character into a chipmunk over it. I do play on difficult, pick stats/powers/feats based on character mentally rather than overall effect and like to play large sections of the game solo. Occaisonally if I don't prepare properly I will get put down.

The game is easy. It's that simple. If you find it hard; it's obvious that Obsidian play tested it for you.

And, no, I was just a Sentinel/Watchman and my strnegth was 10 with a single lightsabre!

I had a sentinel/watchman with a double saber and a 10 STR. Once you add stasis field, lightsaber finesse, master flurry, and a whole bunch of DEX and WIS increasing items, even the bosses are failing their saving throws, and everyone goes down in two rounds. Only Darth Treya gave me any trouble at all, and even then I just had to reload one time in order to beat her.

My entire game after getting my lightsaber was just stasis field followed by master flurry. Easy peasy.

well, why don't you use kotor_tool to make the BAB back to Kotor I style? (ie. Guardian has the better attack bonus, followed by Sentinel and then Consular.)

Doing that sort of thing isn't hard, you just gotta do it right so that it doesn't make it crash or make it totally unbalanced.

Well they not only made the AB progression of the Jedi all the same, it seems they made ALL the classes have the same progression.

I mean I noticed Atton and Bao Dur progressed 1 AB per level. I don't get how they implemented the classes this time really.

I was used to the features in KOTOR1. But for example, Mira as a scout only has light armor (no medium armor) and starts with critical strike (no flurry at all). Atton starts with medium armor proficiency.

I also think playing on difficult is in the end easier as it seems the loot drops tend to be slightly better.

Great post, Jitawa! :D

I am just trying to picture a naked Jedi fighting with a plasma torch against the hordes of the Sith. :-"

Of course, they may all laugh so hard that you could take them out easily.

If someone says that this game isn't too easy then they're just not very good at chracter builds. I have a guardian/jedimaster that I can pretty much just let do what it wants to do in the Trayus Academy. If you struggled maybe you should try Jedi Academy

People laugh when I say that I think a jellyfish is one of the most beautiful things in the world. What they don't understand is, I mean a jellyfish with long, blond hair.

If you play guardian then yes the battles are easy.

But nor if you play Sentinel.

I mean you have no prob. with the common guys, but the bosses can kick your ass easily if you're not careful.

My first game was with sentinals, same thing you get all the lightsaber feats you would have with a guardian anyway

This was probably one of the more difficult fights in the game, it could probably be done much easier if I had had the AE fear/stasis thing at that point, but oh well. It's not impossible with a combat build though. I imagine having a force storm or lightning would trivialize this.

To the people telling me to gimp my character: What I did in choosing my build was identify what exactly I wanted to do in a battle, what would be the most fun. Light saber fighting was chosen, and I built my class around that goal. I don't want to gimp my character to fix the game... but there are other ways...

Well, since I completed the game light side and messed up my chance to get HK-47, I played the second game with a darkside character.

Here's what I did differently:

1. Give myself two light sabers at the beginning of the game.

2. Use KotoR_Tool to make the light sabers do 1d5 dmg(The game says 1-1 damage)

3. Give myself all the parts to fix HK-47 on the place after Peragus, the restoration one.

4. Use cheats to increase my repair/computer/security/persuade to 40(But I don't repair HK-47 with it, just bypass crap.

5. Give myself Force Enlightenment(So I can 'buff up' with the touch of a button).

6. Only use HK-47, no other party members, unless required.

Right now things are much more difficult, I'm limiting the guns that HK-47 can use(But he sucks right now anyway, I think I finished Dantooine and just started the one with the mandalorians).

I can change the difficulty dynamically by choosing whether or not to equip certain items.

I believe there to be a major flaw with how powerful force storm and lightning are. The ability to run in, press '2' twice or thrice, keep running and have your mana back before the next group of mobs is broken. If I designed a build entirely around that ability, I would have an incredibly powerful character. The game doesn't even try to block those types of things with the tools that the player has to block them(AGainst what?)

If anyone wants to make the change to lightsabers like I did, email me at jamesmw(at)gmail.com for the file to put in your override directory in your base install directory. It makes the game a bit more challenging.

This game needs

1. less powerful melee from the player,

2. less str items,

3. an AI that uses their force abilities(If Jedi),

4. Jedi need to start appearing by the first or second level.

5. half the dmg on force storm/lightning with an additional limit to targets(3 or 4). Damage should be tiered, not a simple multiplier.

On the difficult setting, the player should be required to do preperation before the battle, and play intelligently to pass the battle, right now I could jab the keyboard with my **** and beat the game.

Well, I played the game with Sentinel/Weapon Master

By the end of the game, my stats were something like 31str, 26dex, 25 con, 26 wis, 14 con, 15 cha (not exact, but you get the idea). Even without Force Storm - 1 touch of Force Enlightement gave me enough speed to kill the final boss in ~3 rounds and any enemies in 1 round or less (I used two lightsabers)

The only challenging parts were -

1) return to Dxun, where I picked Atton, Visas and the Handmaiden, and at one point had only Atton remaining - I had to destroy around 30 enemy troops, thankfully Atton could wield an axe with some efficiency. 2) handmaiden solo fight 3) mira solo - in those two I was a bit unprepared at first and actually had to use healing packs

Other than that, nobody ever died in my party, and I barely healed.

Oh yeah, all the missions where my main character wasn't in the party were difficult.

Like the one where you have to rescue your dude on the ship. It was tough fighting(But I found a way to trivialize that as well, with the master energy resistence buff, all the blasters in that level couldn't do real damage).

As soon as I got my main guy, man, it was time to open a can of whoopass.

The solo one with that red headed bounty hunter was funny, after I beat the wookie guy I just ran around the level, ignoring the dozens of mobs, used improved alacrity and opened the door for my main guy, so he could lay a whoopin on everything.

IT reminds me of this video I saw with these female lions catching an ox thing, then hyena's come and eventually beat off the lionesses. Then out of no where comes the daddy lion and just beats the **** out of about 5 hyena's. That's how I feel with my main guy.

I've made the following changes to make the game more difficult:

No equipment except robe(Some Dark Jedi robe, the coolest one basically)

Using only one light saber with no upgrades.

I have Force englightment, master valour, master speed and first rank of the armor thing, but I'm not using force enlightment anymore, just master speed.

I'm seeing some difficulty within the game now, if I'm not careful I can become overtaken fairly easily, and some battles are difficult enough for me to use strategy in. Most battles are fairly easy though.

The game isn't properly tuned, where the battles are similar in difficult, which is unfortunate but forgivable.

I'm at a good point, but I'm thinking about reducing my light saber to 1d1 damage and see what that does. I could also give myself the first rank of force speed. I'm finding the force storm to be rather inneffective at my present status because it's resisted and saved a lot, but I think that'll change soon for whatever reason.

Posted

I agree it was too easy for most of it. I played a guardian/weapon master as well. I ended up with a 39 strength (not including stims and force powers)

But I did find the final battle challenging. I couldn't beat it (I won't spoil the identity). I had to lower the difficulty down to normal to win the game.

And there is a greater version of that beast on that final planet that killed me once. He dishes out 250 damage in one hit on the difficult level.

The only other areas I found challenging are where you are forced to use other characters and you can't use yourself (those annoy me). Like using Mira. She uses ranged weapons (though I suppose I could give her finesse and have her use a blade, but I never bothered) and faces primarily melee opponents. Needless to say, I did a lot of running.

It's a subquest

The first time you visit Telos, explore the academy. One of the rooms is a training room, and one of the handmaidens is there. You can challenge her to 1 on 1 fight with no items, 1 on 1 fight with weapon, 1 on 1 with force powers/weapons, 2 on 1 with weapons/force powers and finally, 5 on 1 - and you only have 1 chance to win the final fight. Aftewards, you get 750Exp if I remember correctly

yes, people always seem to get stuck on the last part of that "subquest", I think they don't know that

despite the fact your stripped naked for every encounter, you can wear armor in the last fight, which makes it much easier, especially with under/overlay that gives you physical damage resistance... which you can make in-base with Bao-Dur... I won that fight with a 8str 8dex consular... it's not so hard
