Rosbjerg
uhh that looks sweet .. I remember I used to play the old games till my eyes was bleeding! always loved strategy, even though I find them very lacking today they were very good at their time .. hopefully the third edition can carry the torch into the new millenium! Phosphor
Nice looking graphics but unless they dramatically overhaul the gameplay I'm not interested in the game. Playing AoE is, for me, an exercise is frustration, aggrivation and futility. But my other half got me the Medieval Total War/Viking Invasion bundle for Christmas, so I think I'm well set for my strategy gaming fix.

Hell Kitty
So, still same boring old gameplay which was introduced in AoE, but hasn't changed since? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Â If you didn't like the originals it's unlikely you'll like this new one. Â Sure, they could abandon what came before and model the new game on others in the genre, game that you like, but that would be stupid.

I hate the AoE gameplay, but it's a proven success so there you go. If AoE was turn-based, it'd probably be my favourite strategy game, but wouldn't sell. I thought it was somewhat original, and it's ok fun! Fortune favors the bald.
Grandpa
Well, I prefer the AoE and RoN mode of play to that of the Total War games. Those were ok, but I actually like the city micromanagement to a degree. Â I am really hoping Civ IV hits the shelves sooner than 2006. My favorite strategy game to date has been Civ: CTP. Rosbjerg
my favorite games are definitely the Total War series .. because of the amount of control you have over the troops in the battle! the best of them all was Medieval, that will always be my favorite and most played game .. closely followed by Civ 2 and Civ 3 .. I didn't realise there is a turn-based map aspect. Now, can you build and manage in your cities/provinces in that turn-based segment or do you have to build, manage and war at the same time (like in AoE)? I guess I'm wondering if it's like MTW in that you tend to all empire management aspects (building, spying, moving, managing, etc) in a turn-based environment before going into real-time battle? Hell Kitty
I really like Rise of Nations ( the only RTS other the Age of series I enjoy), but if you don't like the Age of series you won't like RoN.
Darth Reven
Sweet! Those are some of the best graphics i have ever seen. If it's as fun AoE 1&2 it'll be the best RTS ever along with C&C.

it's actually fun, even though it sounds extremely lame! there are campaigns who are very different .. you can also fight the "Cold War" or "Alexander's Campaign" or "Napoleon" or "colonization of the New World"! all with very different goals, different cultures and different style of play! (well essentially it's all about conquest! but the road there is a little different from campaign to campaign)  Cold war is like the first, but this time you can build Nuclear missilles and scare the other nations with you build-up of WMD! muhaha!! and the goal is to make sure that USA or Russia (depends on who you play) doesn't get to powerful .. and that you promote Capitalism or Socialism in the world ..  my only problem is that for every 3 turn in the World Campaign, you go up 1 "age" like from "ancient" to "feudal" .. and that is a little too fast .. so you race through the game to conquer the world before the time clock runs out, which means you pratically needs to take 1 provins every time .. and same goes for "Cold War" also way too fast! AoK was more of the same, so I thought it was okay. AoM was even more of the same, and by then I was getting pretty tired of that style of gameplay. You could play AoE1 and - except for the graphics - there wouldn't even be that much difference. It's a series that has evolved too little imo.
