LadyCrimson Posted December 19, 2024 Author Posted December 19, 2024 Ordered a small box of toffee/chocolate chip cookies. Not low carb. Ordered a couple packages of landjaeger styled meat sticks (not the most expensive ones but still pretty tasty). Zero carb. And since it's all being delivered today, this early this afternoon I should be in snack coma heaven. The internet means you're not safe from snack-shopping even at 4am. “Things are as they are. Gorth Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Arrived in Denmark late Sunday... took a couple of days to shake off the jet lag. Got some kind of bug as a greeting from the cold and clammy weather in northern Europe On a more positive note, staying rent free at my dads place at the moment and he has Netflix. I never had that. Decided to watch the first two episodes of "Arcane". Was surprisingly not sucky. Which I guess is praise coming from me who normally scuff at CGI shows not made by Pixar 2 “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. They are trying to convince me it's the chemicals I use (finish), the same I used in my previous Bosch one without any issues. If they try to convince me to use their tablets I am going to chuck it out the window... So the epilogue of the story is that new dishwashers use so little water that these new washing tablets/pills don't dissolve all the way under certain conditions, ie. if the dishes are not that dirty the machine will automatically shorten the program making it even worse. So they increased the amount of water used to the max through their service app, but still recommend I use plain powder detergent for regular washing and just use the heaviest program instead of auto. Plus some of the ikea trays and salad bowls I have are crap, which is the least surprising thing in the story. "because they filled mommy with enough mythic power to become a demi-god" - KP

LadyCrimson Posted December 21, 2024 Author Posted December 21, 2024 There are zero eggs in the local grocery. There is a sign of "eggs limited to 1 package per customer" or something, but all gone. California has now declared a state of emergency for finding it in cattle/milk or something. Ok. As long as I can still buy my yogurt. Don't care about/hardly use eggs/milk much myself, but I must have my Fage yogurt! I've heard Barnes and Nobles (and other bookstores) are doing well lately - eg, books are doing well, despite all the tech. I find this refreshing. Going to go to one and buy up a bunch of books I ignored from the past decade or two. Maybe I'll find I can enjoy reading novels constantly, again, vs my boredom with most media. “Things are as they are. Gfted1 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 So Im loving my new smart ring. Theres $300+ models of these rings and this is not that ring, its an $80 Chinese knockoff that I wanted to try before I really committed to wearing a good one and so far, so good. The pulse is accurate (easy enough to check myself) but I still want to test the blood pressure reading against another machine. It also has a "stress test" which I dont have any idea what its checking but my readings are in the lowest category. Another thing I dont fully understand yet is the "sleep analysis" function. I have no idea how it knows when I fall asleep and when I wake up but its accurate down to the minute. Then it somehow measures "light sleep, deep sleep and REM sleep" and puts it in a bar chart for you to review. Other measurements include "Active energy spent (in Kcal), standing activity, number of steps and blood oxygen level". Finally it has a function to measure your "workout" which charts your heartrate over time and distance traveled. Its really pretty cool and frees me from wearing a watch (which I dont) or constantly having my phone on my physical body. The only down side is that my kid is mercilessly mocking me for wearing a ring on my right index finger since in their entire life theyve only ever seen me wear a ring on my left ring finger. LadyCrimson Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 ran windows memory diagnostic. All it says is theres a problem, zero other info. How useful. Guess I shall buy new ram tho. Which means repasting cpu since that giant noctua cooler basically blocks ram removal access. hahaha I think I can still buy the exact same ram for 100 bucks. Maybe Id get 4-5 years out of it again. pffft what a pita “Things are as they are. LadyCrimson Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 (edited) Ok, hubby was able to remove/move around ram sticks without removing cpu cooler. Easier. Well, can't do/reach the farthest 2 slots (so if I wanted 4 sticks/remove cooler), but eh. Now I'm annoyed tho, because all the ram stuff always lists the max "speed" as the "speed" of the ram. I want to know the base speed of the ram (y'know, without the oc XMP or whatever). Edit: does it even matter? I think the CPU is rated for the 2133 tho. EDIT: never mind, hubby's wrong. I think it's 2666 for cpu. Looking again... Edited December 29, 2024 by LadyCrimson “Things are as they are. I think it's 2666 for cpu. Looking again... The "XMP" speed is what the RAM is tested and binned for, so it should be what it's guaranteed to work at. If it doesn't, then it's defective, even if it seems to work okay at a lower speed...uuunless there's something wrong with your motherboard and that's what's actually not running correctly. If a memtest86 pass with both sticks in at XMP causes it to fail, but doing two more passes while alternating which stick is in (while still keeping XMP speeds) causes it to not fail, I'd be very suspicious of the motherboard at that point...but if the RAM still fails memtest86, then it's probably the RAM. You can, of course, repeat said tests at "base" speeds. Just turn XMP off and it should revert. I confess that I'm not one hundred percent sure of how that works: does the CPU/motherboard determine the "base" speed, or the RAM module itself, or the DDR standard? I feel like any time I've stuck a DDR4 module into a system, it's always 2133 MHz before you go into BIOS to put it at the correct speeds, but I'm not absolutely certain anymore. I wouldn't manually mess about with your RAM's speed outside of switching the XMP profile on/off, since that profile is not just speed but also latency and voltage settings as well. 4 hours ago, Gfted1 said: So Im loving my new smart ring. LadyCrimson Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 (edited) If one of those ring things gets to the point where it could give me an idea of blood glucose levels - for me, it doesn't have to be uber accurate, but also couldn't be super inaccurate, ofc - I might consider one. But the notion of needing a "phone app" to make it work/see data (or a sub. to see certain data) always makes me go "meh." Better home medical monitoring is always welcome for certain cases tho. But I'd also be worried re: data gathered/unscrupulous natures of companies etc, as/if it became more prevalent vs. more of a novelty. But then I'm a suspicious get off my lawn old bird so. @Bartimaeus We did the windows mem test thingie at base ram speed (no XMP) that the bios wanted to use (2133), we also tried lowering it. We did one stick at a time, we did both, switched slots etc. One stick gave "there's an error" in the first few seconds, the other would wait for a couple minutes, didn't matter what slot you put them in, each stick's behavior remained the same in that way, so whatever is wrong with them is at different points/stress. DDR4 3200 or 3600 ram isn't expensive at all right now so eh, cheap enough to try it. EDIT: reboot is still very intermittent and only occurs while gaming (for the moment). And varies per game. Like Indiana didn't bother it at all but that zombie game really hates it. Heh. Edited December 29, 2024 by LadyCrimson “Things are as they are. Sarex Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 @LadyCrimson Just pay attention to the latency when getting new ram. If it's cheap and high frequency, it's usually high latency too. Sister "inherited" a car and one of its headlight bulbs gave out. Do I go to the dark side and put in LEDs, or do I get a high output halogen... There are issues with both, the high output halogen last about 6 months to a year, but they pass the tech inspection. The LEDs are much brighter, but there are some fitment issues if I go with high quality ones. Also they would need to be taken out before every inspection, or she would need to find a place to do it with them in. The biggest thing is that I hate drivers who ****ing blind me with their low beams like they have high beams on... Now why I am considering LEDs in her case is because she has projectors for low beams and I would get some high quality Philips ones which have a good cut off line. Idk... will probably go with high output halogens and see how good they are. Either way the lights she has in now are crap. The Windows memory diagnostic test is pretty flaky, but in the opposite way: it usually fails to diagnose defective RAM that memtest86 would find quickly. If both sticks of RAM are individually failing the test at both XMP and at base speeds, then make sure you test both those new sticks with the same diagnostic tool to make certain that it doesn't keep failing even with the new RAM, which it hopefully won't. I'm a little concerned that it might not actually be the RAM at this point, but two new sticks should, in theory, illuminate the situation. 31 minutes ago, Gfted1 said: This is the one I purchased: Amazon.com: Smart Ring Health Tracker, Sleep Tracker Ring with Heart Rate, Waterproof Fitness Ring for Activity Monitoring/Steps/Distance/Calories, Air Gestures, Up to 7-Day Battery, for iOS Android (Black,#12) : Sports & Outdoors You do have to download a janky Chinese app thats probably already hijacked all of my credentials, but this one doesnt require a paid subscription, which is a dealbreaker for me. LadyCrimson Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 ^ I used windows crap mem-test just to get an idea what I wanted to try first. I know there's supposedly better memory test programs but these days most such programs seem to be mostly bloat/spyware of some sort, even if old versions used to be great. eg, I don't tend to download/use such. Almost every single program/company that made the program I used to like has become something I would never want to install on my PC so I just don't bother anymore. In the end if it's the mobo, can't do much about that/I'd see no point trying to "fix" that aspect, and I'd just build a new PC entire. If ram or psu replacement makes it go away, great/ideal. If it doesn't ... oh well. In my life situation, I'm not too fussed. Just would mean I won't be playing games too often for a few months or something. I'd certainly prefer it to be a simple ram fix tho, ofc. 1 “Things are as they are.
