Malc  remember you said you were going to try not to be so  cynical, its the anniversary of the invasion in a few days and Bidens visit is about symbolism and solidarity for Ukraine and its efforts

But Biden took a risk here, I dont think the Russians would have intentionally tried to kill him but accidents and miscalculations  happen

And Kiev does get targeted sometimes so you never know

The sirens seemed theatric, but from the morning Russia was starting all day long Mig-31K s in Belarus, which can hold Kinjal missiles. It would be more surprising to me, to not hear sirens at all during his visit

And yes, it was most likely due to 500M and 1 year "anniversary". Oh and Biden is on his way to Poland as well...

Not much chance at all of an actual air raid during the day in Kiev. If Biden wanted the geopolitical equivalent of base jumping he could always have visited Bakhmut. That certainly would have been... interesting.

Hence not much chance. The US also- unsurprisingly- contacted the Russians beforehand to let them know Biden was coming, which made it practically no chance. Same as the Brits did for Boris Johnson when he went.

Which is kind of amusing given how many people seem to think it was incredibly brave of them to go like they were heading into Bakhmut on a chopper instead of toodling in and out on a train, having let the Russians know the itinerary beforehand.

So, Ukraine has to resist militarily, because that's what it got down to. In Belarus, the people have tried to resist very bravely, but at least the ruler of the country is firmly in Russia's pocket. If they don't act fast, it will be Trump as president in 2024 and the end of peace in Europe... I'm sure he can find a few more fires to fan the flames or however the saying goes. Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Cyprus, The Levant, Kosovo, Belgium, Scotland, Lombardia, Scania, Moldova, whatsitsname the region with all the Hungarians under Romanian rule... so many hot spots, independence movements and armed conflicts lurking just underneath the surface waiting for the next spark.

That's talking about security guarantees not notification in advance, which the US themselves said they gave.  Easy line to draw from giving that to the Russians knowing to lay off Kiev at the time, I'd say.  Always curious how those calls play out, wording is probably tightly controlled I guess
