I'm just wondering what happened to Abet or the polpovir. Were there any other Deadfire-related things that were hinted to exist in Pillars one that never seemed to crop up in Pillars 2?

Off the top of my head, there's Ponamu the Bird-Scorned in Anslog's Compass who's just a bonus DLC item vendor in PoE 1.

 

Then you launch Deadfire and discover his statue in the palace in Neketaka, where he is credited as a big shot explorer among the Huana.

I haven't finished the game yet, but of all returning characters from the first game I was sure Uariki would make an appearance, yet so far she hasn't.

And I though we'd see Maerwith, captain of the Red Dream (daughter of Lilith who was haunting the Lighthouse in Ondra's Gift).

There's a hull you can purchase (Dunnage) called something with Red Dream.

Ah, okay then. Must've forgotten about that one.

One I spotted last night: I was pleasantly surprised to find Tama Watua from Lavender and Lye in-game. Again, that quest mentions "mainland rulers of Abet", but we never see such a location in Deadfire...

I assume "Abet" is what ended up becoming Neketaka?

Just yesterday I found a child of a Sky Dragon in Oathbinder's Sanctum. (its a pet & found if you didn't kill the Sky Dragon in PoE1).

Mainland pretty much means continent. The Deadfire Archipelago is just a bunch of islands. So based on that wording I would not expect to see Abet in Deadfire.

The quest does mention ‘sailors coming near Abet from the Deadfire Archipelago’ which may mean they are separate places. We also don’t see all the archipelago in the game do we?
