I hope this is the right subforum to ask this? I am unsure which is the best platform to take PoE from... Would prefer the hardcopy version, but apparently producers/developers and modders alike don't like DVDs that much anymore (my BG:EE dvd can't get an update past 1.xx for example, and some mods for Planescape have a hard time working with the DVD version). So I wonder whether the hardcopy version has some kind of disadvantage over Steam or GoG and vice versa. Like updates or version-unique bugs etc. Thank you for upcoming info ^^

The DVD 2.01 Updates are now live for Windows and Linux DVD users. These updates are to be used with the builds that were delivered on DVDs to Pillars of Eternity backers. If you are playing the game through Steam, GOG, or Origin, you should update your game through those platforms instead. We are currently working on installable versions of The White March - Part I and hope to have those available for download for DVD users in the next week or two. To download the latest 2.01 Updates for DVD please visit here.

Hello fellow penguin lovers! You probably noticed that the patches for the DRM-free backer DVD have a tendency to lag a bit behind the patches for the Steam & GOG versions… Well, not anymore I now build custom patches allowing to update your game installed from the DVD to the latest stable version, so you don’t have to wait for the official builds anymore. You just need to go to the following page for download links and instructions: unofficial patches for Pillars of Eternity Your feedback is welcome here, as well as your thanks, calls for help, reminders I’m late for a patch, etc. I hope your bandwidth will like the work I put into these patches

I have a big problem, and I think I know how to solve it but I have too much anxiety to follow through without inquiring here first about potential disappointments. Last weekend I bought this game from Fry's Electronics because I wanted to feel special owning the physical game box even though there's nothing in it except the DVD and a single document which I presume are only for installation purposes. I come home, pop in the disk drive of my Dell XPS L521X and... nothing. I then spend several hours trying to properly re-calibrate and eventually reinstall the 'MAT****A DVDRWBD UJ167' device, but to no avail. Fortunately though the document does contain a PoE 'Steam Key' which I am confident would be exclusive to my copy of the game, however before I proceed to register on Steam (which is a drag tbh).. a) Is it as simple as creating a Steam account, entering the key, then downloading and installing the game through the client? b) If I do install this way, will I be required to launch Steam with the game like Battle.net or something? c) I'm assuming I bought the 'Hero's Edition' equivalent ($30) since all it says is 'Pillars of Eternity' on the box, but could there be any gameplay-related features I'd be missing by changing installation methods? I'm 25 years old. Thanks in advance for replies

Update by Brandon Adler, Lead Producer Hey, everyone. We have two bits of news for you today. One is about Zero Radius Games' Pillars of Eternity card game and the other is about updates for the DVD copies of the game. Pillars of Eternity Card Game: Lords of the Eastern Reach A quick note to let everyone know the Pillars of Eternity card game is in its last 24 hours. They've opened up 13 Stretch goals adding 82 more cards, solo rules, a wooden Pigeeple of the Spectral Pig, better cards, bigger dice, and are coming up on adding the Chanter troop type to the game. Plus, they just added a Campaign Book for people to be able to play through a whole series of scenarios that tell a story. Yeah... they've been busy. Check it out, and if it looks cool the guys at ZRG would be very appreciative of your backing. DVD Updates We have good news for everyone that has a DVD backer copy of the game, but would like the latest 1.06 update. You can now head over to our Backer Portal to download an update to the latest version of the game. Updates and installation instructions for all three OSes are on the page. When a new update is released in the future, we will add the new patches in this location.
