Don't know how other states are, but here the major metropolitan area is actually the major economic factor in the state. The taxes generated there are being used to prop up services - including farm subsidies - in rural areas. While the rural areas seem to think the metro areas are tax sinks, the data shows otherwise (its also a bit similar to Sen. McConnell complaining about New York getting federal funding when his home state received more in Federal funding than they give in taxes to the federal government, unlike New York). I don't really feel comfortable with some of this corporate activism going on. Two legislators here were fired from their regular jobs at law firms over the legislation, which seems at odds with the idea of sending a representative to represent their constituents to me. We live in weird times.

" Imaginary Friend" episode of TNG which is one or two more kid episodes from being rechristened Enterprise School for Children Why did the producers decide that the viewers wanted to see the stories of the kids on the Enterprise? While strange to believe that's what someone would feel the show needed, at least this episode worked. Probably because the conflict wasn't really between a kid and the Enterprise crew with loads of psychobabble layered in. By making the primary conflict between the girl and the alien, the Enterprise crew managed to not look as bad as they did in previous episodes and the episode was fun, if minor.

They had to change his height for the original Godzilla vs Kong (and kept that height for King Kong Escapes). I accept it as the 'Toho' size Kong. The director said they felt the ending needed something extra, so the after-credit scene was reworked to be part of the end of the movie. So there was going to be an after credit scene... Looking forward to seeing the film...eventually.

From what I understand, college tuition is up in the US. But a large part of that is state legislatures or private organizations decreasing their funding to them (either in real decreases, or effective decreases by not keeping up with inflations). I know there have been several severe cuts to the college system here over the years. Textbooks I don't have information on, but since there is, I believe an oligopoly within textbook production (while there are textbooks from multiple companies, I believe there are just three companies involved in the field and the multiple companies are just arms of one of these) they've always tended to be high. That said a number of universities are working to open source course materials to decrease this cost on students.

I think most of the "Official State _________" are just publicity things Maryland's Official Dance is the square dance and sport is Jousting. My life didn't change knowing that. As for partisan politics, G. Washington probably had it right in his farewell address. "The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism." Although with limited communication choices in the late 1700s, a party was probably the only way to organize a coherent national platform for national elections.

I dunno, I think the European Badger's just have better press agents.

THE PERFECT MATE (TNG)- Why can't the computer, which apparently can track every crewman, keep people who aren't part of the crew from traveling willy-nilly all over the ship? Why are there civilians on the ship (other than to have rowdys around for the one scene)? Tim O'Connor and Famke Jansen are good in their respective roles, and Picard and Beverly get some good scenes as well. One of the dramatic episodes that actually has some pretty decent drama in it.

It's not a direct follow-up (only the actors for The Wall, Flagg, Quinn, and Boomerbutt return) and I think giving the mixed reputation of the original, the title is an attempt at a fresh start. I imagine ties to the original film will be few if not entirely non-existant.

There's an ad now by one of these stupid semi-anonymous PACs telling us we should be thanking our benevolent overlords elected officials for 'saving the integrity of the vote'. But, the Gov, Lt Gov and Secretary of State said there was no voter fraud. So why are we changing laws to "prevent the rampant voter fraud"? Well apparently its not because there *was* voter fraud, but because people *feel* there was fraud, so the laws need to be changed so that these people with the *feels* can return to confidence in the election process. Despite the fact that the only reason the *feel* there was fraud was that people lied to them and told them there was voter fraud. Which the Gove, Lt. Gov and Secretary of State said there wasn't. Its quite possibly the dumbest political theater I've seen. Its a solution searching for a problem, as one pundit here put it.
