  1. I put someone on an ignore list a long time ago. I think it was the nazi fellow over at Interplay. The thing is, he never really posted in anyplace I read. I guess my own "personal" ignore setting worked just as well. I wouldn't want to ignore you Vol. Sometimes I'd like to throtle you, but never ignore you.
  2. Please don't put me on your ignore list. heh heh. I'm also glad to hear about that navigation bar thing, Fionavar.
  3. Hey, you know how we have that navigation bar up top? On my screen, it currently read: "> Obsidian Forum Community > Obsidian General > Suggestions" Well, is there any way to get that down at the bottom of the page also? I mean, I normally use that to navigate simply because my pointer is closer to the bottom of the page than the top by the time I've read to the bottom. Right now, I have to either scroll back or hit the back button on my browser. I know this is relatively minor, and so I'm not giving a big gripe. It is, nevertheless, a little irritating to me, so I'm giving a small gripe.
  4. Well, you really can't say what's most important to Christians simply because Christianity, like every other large Church, Hell, like every other large movement, has divided into several smaller groups. These groups ostensibly share one common characteristic which is the deification of Jesus Christ. However, even the way in which many of the groups approach this deification is different. For this reason alone, I would only use Christians as a broad grouping and then get into specifics for each church thereafter. For instance, The Trinity, Saints, Angels, and Lucifer are characteristics of Roman Catholic belief. However, I wouldn't want to slight other groups by saying that these are common to every Christian religion because the emphasis (or even core belief) varies between churches. Views on any number of things, homosexuality being one such thing, are likely to be quite different from one religion to another. However, views on any number of things are likely to be different from one person to another. In some Christian churches, homosexuality is more or less either completely ignored or condoned. Even people who share in a particular faith might have disparate views. For instance, I think homosexuality is essentially a poor yardstick by which to judge another human being. My church (Roman Catholic) has a stance, but I do not necessarily adhere to that particular teaching. On the other hand, I am a loyal Catholic in virtually every other respect. I suppose that you could turn that argument around, then, and say the same thing. If you think religious belief is misguided, fine. ...But I'll agree not to prejudge you if you promise not to prejudge me. As I understand it, that's the point of the originating post.
  5. I thought it looked funny. ...But I also thought it looked cool. I only saw the episode once, but when I saw it the theater erupted into applause when he started laying the smack down.

ad hominem attacks are "to the man." ...Or to a man or person, I guess. Latin lacks a definite article.

So, we're playing a game? I would think, without an agreed framework from which to argue, that there can be no attack that is not against the individual. Right? I mean, you're drawing conclusions from context. That makes sense. ...But you also say that you seek to argue against my argument but not my person. The context of your statements led me to believe that you were attacking me personally. On the other hand, for all you know, I might find your attacks clever. Furthermore, you might not be attacking either me or my arguments. Perhaps it's all a misunderstanding. Who knows? Now, if I were to make an ad hominem attack against you, such as calling you a jackass, then I guess there wouldn't be anything left to say. That's clearly a personal attack. For the record, I do think, in context, your attacks don't seem to have an overarching goal. They seem to be attacks ad homines. After all, you point out the fallacies of Junkyard Dog as he responded to hungry. You then, in your response to me, attack hungry also. You are indiscriminant and capricious. You say that these attacks are not personal in nature. From my perspective, all of your attacks are personal. Sure, you observe some form, but insulting another fellow with a ten syllable word is just as much an attack as insulting him with a four letter word. The fact is, we're not arguing to convince each other anyhow. I think you're a bore, an admitted ad hominem attack, and you can believe of me what you'd like. I will simply let folks read what we have to say and they'll agree with whichever one of us they choose. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find that most folks think both of us are bores. In your case, they'd be right. There I am attacking you ad hominem. *shrug*

Your attacks were to the argument but mine have been to the man? Perhaps, in my culture, calling you Tarzan is a great compliment. Perhaps bringing up your intellectual muscle is a way of exalting it. I don't know, but I revel in your tutelage. Please continue. I'm all ears. I'm also sure you must be great fun at parties. No, don't be offended. Learn how to take a compliment.

Ah, what a surprise. Here I thought you'd have to jump up and flex your intellectual muscle. My mistake. Keep beating on your chest, tarzan.

I thought Junkyard Dog was just goofing around. It seemed obvious the first poster isn't a 12 year old and folks joke around on these boards all of the time. To go out of your way to attack someone for joking around on the internet has to take a lot of time. Also, it's asinine. The originator of this thread already claimed he would seek professional help if the situation did not improve and he had a couple of reasonable ideas for actions he could take in the meantime. Furthermore, he, himself, said that he had not posted in order to receive professional advice. He only posted to do what most folks do on these kinds of boards, chat about something and strike up a conversation. I mean, Role-player posts a thread and is attacked. Junkyard Dog posts in a thread and he's attacked. Is there a trend? I'm new here, but it certainly seems like it.
  11. Yes, it's out on PC. As far as Carth goes *shrug* his voice over work was the best done of the lot. If it comes to looking at the characters, I'd rather look at Balista or Mission (if you can get past the weird hairdo). ...But as for dialogue and backstory? Carth was the best of the lot. Missions voice acting was pretty damned good and she had a pretty good story. It didn't matter, I didn't want non-Jedi with me after I had a group full.
  12. ...hehehe...sneaks up on us, eh, lad...dunna let these diaper-wearin' snot-noses git ya down...a bigger number jus' means we be battle-hardened... ...WHO LUVS YA, BABY!!... Now this one really did make me laugh. heh heh heh. Poor Vol. He'll come back for revenge, you know?
  13. Hugs from Aurora and sympathy from you. Now I'm a happy Eldar. :D
  14. Forget the religion thing. The world's full of 'em. Instead, make a really good CRPG that does him justice!
  15. Lovecraft literally shudders in his grave. ...And, with Lovecraft, that could very well be true,
  16. Well, Easter is technically the most important holy day of Christianity. I couldn't tell that by the people trying to run me down in the parking lot after mass today. You know, I'm always struck by how rude folks are as they leave church. You're in there, being told about Christ's peaceful message and then cursing your neighbor because you want to get out of the parking lot before he does. duh. I mean, if you can't be peaceful to a fellow Christian who has done nothing against you, how can you be peaceful towards anyone else? Still, if you can survive the traffic, Easter would be the day to celebrate with Christians. In all other respects, it is a beautiful day. I say this because: Christmas day has ceased to be the main holiday, at least to Roman Catholics, because it is the promise of salvation whereas Easter is the fulfillment. Christmas is more of a secular holiday. I don't have anything against that. If folks get together to celebrate and give gifts well, that can't be all bad.
  17. The graphics look sweet but a little dark. A good ol' hacknslash isn't such a bad thing. I'll take a wait and watch attitude for right now.
  18. I don't believe Fallout 3 will ever see the light of day. Most of the Fallout faithful seem to have come to the same conclussion. Hence, they don't even bother railing against Interplay. The Interplay fora still get a lot of traffic for popular titles from the past, such as Baldur's gate 2, but there's very little traffic regarding upcoming titles. Of course, that's because there aren't any announced titles on the horizon. If the Fallout fans, whom I like more now than I did even six months ago, hate Interplay, then who can blame them? Some folks might suggest that Interplay did the right thing in foresaking Fallout, but the company didn't get into such a bind by demonstrating solid planning in the past. FO:BoS might have been a commercial success. I don't know. I don't even care. Once it came to light that we couldn't expect any new CRPG titles from Interplay, I stopped looking for news regarding upcoming titles. I don't wish any ill will on Interplay, but I sure as hell don't wish anything good for them either. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 was a good enough title but, as my exposure to x-box titles in general has increased, my eagerness for BG:DA titles has decreased. Interplay wouldn't matter one way or the other anyhow if it weren't for the fact that they've held so doggedly onto the Fallout franchise over the years that I'm sure the rights to it will die with the company. I disagree with most Fallout fans in that I'm not excited by the idea of a Troika Fallout. In fact, the only company I'd like to see make Fallout 3 at this point, now that Black Isle is gone, is Obsidian. CA has, to my mind, just as much legitimacy in regards to Fallout as Troika. He was the lead design on my all time favorite game. He doesn't seem so enthralled with himself that he'll make the same sorts of mistakes that Troika makes. ...And the end of our little intellectual autoerotism is that it doesn't matter because the least likely thing on the horizon is another Fallout game. If I'm completely wrong or naive in regards to this, good. I'd like nothing more than to eat crow.
  19. Dammit, even Vol's scoring points off me. Maybe I am getting old.
  20. Oh, just bite my backside. Dammit, I'm 34. It's not like I'm ancient. I have experience writing reports from human resources days. I have a lot of experience playing games. You young whipper snappers... back in my we respected our Eldars.
  21. My feelings are mixed on that end. I'd rather see Jefferson as BG3. I followed the development of Jefferson and I was quite unhappy to see it get cancelled. Sure, I believe CA is a better developer than Sawyer, at least going by the projects on which they've worked. I'm a huge PS:T fan. I'd love nothing more than to see something like it. ...But Jefferson seemed to have a lot of really solid ideas. It would probably fail to deliever in some respects but, if it managed to come through on even half of what it promised, it looked like it was going to be good. Really good. That would have been the title where Sawyer had sufficient resources to show us what he's got. Now, my gut instinct is that CA and his team can develop a better game than Sawyer and his team (although that's odd, since CA was on Sawyer's team for a time). Still, that doesn't mean Sawyer can't produce a great game. I, for one, would have relished the chance to find out. I'm one of the folks who really enjoyed IWD. I liked it quite a bit. With a little more time and some more resources, who knows what we could expect? No matter what else, I'd like to see what CA does. I can't help but believe that the guy who lead the design team for PS:T has more great ideas in his head. If he can avoid the St. Timmy syndrome, then all will be well.
  22. I've been looking forward to a dance game that explores Britney's unique abilities for years. Kudos to Obsidian Entertainment for bringing this dream to life.
  23. If I had the opportunity to visit a mosque, I would. Normally, though, such opportunities come from knowing folks who practice the religion. I've known Jewish folks, but no Muslims. In fact, I used to pal around with an Iranian for a few years. Great guy, but he pretty much hated religion. He was a devout atheist. I got the impression that he blamed religion for the fact that he had to leave his country. Of course, he had quite an interesting life, having fled from Iran to Germany and then come to the United States. Absolutely brilliant fellow, though. He got his degree in physics and left to study back east. I'm sure I have to know someone who's Muslim, but I don't tend to question folks I meet about their religion. The folks with whom I've become good enough friends to know what religion they are haven't been Muslim. It's just a matter of time, though, I'm certain. I'm sure I'll get the opportunity, assuming it's not an affront to their beliefs, to see the inside of a mosque. They're quite interesting from the outside. As far as entertaining the idea of other faiths... I dunno, maybe I'm just not threatened in my religious beliefs. When push comes to shove, I am a Roman Catholic. I'm not ashamed to admit it and I profess my faith freely. Still, I share one trait with everyone regardless of religion or lack thereof, and that's humanity. Anyhow, if I start saying nasty things about other folks religions, or attacking atheists, then they might point out some ugly business in my church. I don't want to throw a stone lest I find out that one of the walls of my house is made of glass.
  24. I'm a Roman Catholic, but I did have the opportunity to attend a Passover meal tonight. I bent the rules in that I consumed meat on Good Friday, which is against the tenets of my faith. The one thing I can say, and I will admit this openly for the folks who practice Judaism, that the Jews in question were Messianic. I
  25. Stalking along the tundra, attacking with a vorpal blade, cometh Eldar! And he gives an ominous scream: "For the love of beatings, I pillage like a four-year-old on a sugar rampage!"
