When I do it, it's not called trolling. Anyhow, I enjoy reading a good RPG debate. The biggest problem is coming to a definition upon which we can agree. I don't see that happening any time soon. Some of you want to create a narrow definition of RPGs, often with inherent inconsistencies, to exclude the games you deem unfit. *shrug* Have fun. It's the sort of mental auto-eroticism that keeps message boards going.

What a load of crap. You know, access is a problem for every sport. Of course winter sports are more costly. The gear itself is expensive. That doesn't mean you should use some sort of grossly unfair reverse snobbery to detract from what these athletes do.
-
Why do you take it upon yourself to provide the definition for an RPG, Jedi? It's such a burden, deciding what can and can't be an RPG. Of course, you're wrong. Diablo 2 is a role-playing game. It's just not the sort of role-playing game you like. Aside from that, what the hell was this rant about classes and levels and whatnot? Get a grip, man. No need to spend all your time in left field.

You guys don't want to brawl over the Olympics. By the time you get the trip together and spend several hundred dollars flying back and forth, you'll have forgotten what happened. Furthermore, there's honor in getting the silver or bronze. There's honor in competing. To go and live well and enjoy your silver should be enough. You came in second in a close game. On another day, you might have won. You didn't. Maybe some other time.

The Germans should be proud of themselves. It's okay to take pleasure in the success of your Olympic team. That doesn't make you a nazi. It's not the same thing as voting for Hitler or persecuting Jews.

You can run, Pixies. For my part, I've been doing quite well at FEAR. Unfortunately, brew and FPS's don't mix well, so I've gone from 10 healthpacks to 4 in the last run. I'm quiting for a while.

Ah, Boringwind isn't so bad. I liked a lot of the game, but the control on funds and the endless smiting of those damned bird beasts, the massive outdoor travel areas with tons to explore but nothing to see, the dwarven ruins with so much lost potential and the story that just seemed to be there, all these things conspired to make it a dull experience. However, I have hopes for Oblvion. I'm going to put my ear to the ground and hear what folks say about that one.

What the hell are you talking about, Alan? The minority of players refuse to call Diablo an RPG? First of all, that's a hard fact to prove, but I'd claim the other way around. Most players, except for the hard-core RPG elite, seem to consider Diablo an RPG. Personally, I consider it an RPG. It's not an RPG in the way that some uber-leet, pretentious RPGers think of them, but it sure as hell has the trappings as far as I can tell. I get a kick out of your take on the industry most of the time, but you're plain offtrack on this one.

Dammit, mkreku, that was a great story. I didn't see it, but the coverage is spotty on NBC and I don't watch all the events at any rate. Let's face it, figure skating gets the lion's share of the coverage and everything else takes a backseat. Instead of seeing events last night, we saw the figure skating gala. It wasn't bad so much as irrelevant as there were no contests. It was just the end of the Olympics skating frenzy.

GhengisKen and I play a lot of CoV. I'd like to get back to CoH, but CoV still has that new game smell. Also, I recently bought FEAR and I'm playing that. I've been playing XMen Legends a lot, but the Olympics have made that kind of hard. No access to the TV.

I'm probably not going to watch the hockey final. If I do, then I'll root for a good game. I'm with everyone else, though. Figure skating shouldn't be judged so harshly folks feel compelled to risk tons of falling. As an aside, maybe my Russian friend didn't understand. I'm not saying Russians are swinehearted. Only the specific Russians who worked with specific French to fix the last Olympics. It was a dark day for the Olympics, regardless of who the judges happened to be. In this case, they were Russian and French.
-
The swinehearted Russian and French judges breaking the rules and "fixing" the last Olympics have resulted in rules changes that make the figure skating event harder. It's not like these young ladies get on the ice and just skate around at leisure. It's a freakishly hard event.

I think it would be better if they renamed it: Fallout 3, the irradiation of the Eldar Scrolls. Seriously, with Oblivion coming out soon, I don't know why we'd read so much into whether FO3 shows at E3 or not. I mean, there's going to be a shortage of boothbabes also, from what I hear.
-
Yeah, but you took bronze, and that is a feat indeed. The little Georgian (country, not state) girl exemplifies the Olympics. She didn't win a medal, but she went out there and gave everything she had. That, not the medal, is why we have Olympics.
-
I like both the Russian and American. Acutally, all of the girls I've seen so far have been friendly and articulate. Sometimes I cringe when I hear the athletes, but the women figure skaters have been a good bunch. All things being equal, I'd like to see my country win, but I'm happy to see good performances. After years of my wife forcing me to watch Olympic figure skating, I'm actually growing fond of it. On the other hand, the same isn't true for the Academy awards, which I continue to despise with a passion. BTW: Ugly Olympic syndrome isn't reserved for athletes. Look at what Gumble has to say:

Hahahahaha. Good for Moth. He deserves a point or two for the crap you guys give him. +23 points to Mothman for taking all the guff in good stride. +23 points to Nartwak for catching meta in an error. +1 point to meta for making a mistake every now and then. heh heh heh

Good Lord, pixies computer is older than he is.

Makes it hard to ask for someone to jump start your car, Laozi. Hell, my wife and I live in a 1,300 sqft condominium. A while back, the whole complex had to be sprayed for termites. Apart from the houses, the fences that separated the back yards had to be removed. After the wood fencing was gone but before the vinyl fencing was placed, we had free access to walk across our back yards. One evening, my wife knocked on the back door as she is wont to do. I was getting ready for a shower, but I stepped to the door and let her enter... only it wasn't my wife. Instead, my two 21 year old next door neighbor med students were there to ask me about something. Imagine our collective surprise. I closed the door immediately and donned my clothes. One of the neighbors and I got quite a laugh out of it. Her father actually bought the condo just so she could go to school. The other girl, however, still turns red when she says hello. I mean, we're friendly and even chat every once in a while, but she was certainly freaked. Anyhow, I like my condo and I wouldn't change it for the world. Just for perspective, however, the same size condominium in my complex recently sold for $400k. Somewhere along the line, housing prices are going to have to fall. It's a madhouse right now. To think that I could sell my 1,300 sqft condo and be able to buy a 2,600 sqft house for less in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas.

Well, I've taken my merry band of xmen out on a rampage. We just faced Pyro and hacked around in the ice caves a bit. Pretty good game. It's got some arcade qualities to it, but that doesn't bother me. I'm thinking of picking up Gothic 2. I'm not sure, but I just saw a deal on Gothic 2 Gold. Maybe I should give it a shot after xmen legends.

You'll have to take it from the government, Gabs. You misunderstood me, TEETH. I wasn't disagreeing with you. I was only pointing out that the community has the right to set limits on the size of these houses if that is their desire. Personally, as long as it doesn't cause congestion on the roads or other such nonsense, it seems that these mansions, 15,000+ might help the local economy. Someone has to build the house. The house owners probably need someone to clean the house and maintain the grounds. There is undoubtedly a lot of work to be done just to keep up the place. If someone is rich enough to buy a mansion, let them. It's his money and he is free to spend it within the confines of the law. However, the community agrees on the code, so if they don't want a 15k sqft house, that's the way it is. The potential housebuyer can go and buy a smaller house somewhere else. BTW: KQD, good idea. My sister recently applied for and was offered at a job in LA county. Even at six digits, she would still have had less money than in Henderson, and so she declined the position. Making more money isn't always the answer when it comes to jobs. If you have to take an 1,100 house for the same price you've paid for a 3,300 house in Henderson, then you're not getting ahead. The housing prices have been growing quite rapidly in Las Vegas/Henderson. It is, as I write this, one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. It has been moving in and out of the number one spot for some time. I'm quite taken by Las Vegas, and not only because it's my home town. It has beautiful scenery, a night life second to none, and is close to interesting natural and mad made features. The only problem is, I'm not enamored of the 120 degree summers and the freeways in the area are constantly under construction. Sure, land prices will be higher where the population density and demand are greater. Still, that's probably why the national population is moving west and south.

What game, DAWUSS?
-
I actually remember that. Troika fans were always trying to have it both ways. Apparently, they still are.
-
If Gromnir hadn't already cited it, I would have a few choice words to say about Identify. Was it a bug... or a design decision? Oh, that had me riled. Troika really could have used less help from the Troika Liberation Front on that issue. As far as ToEE, how could Troika take a module like ToEE and not even improve the role-playing? How? I guess maybe they did put more in there, but it just seems nuts.
-
Not to derail the discussion, but who is the fellow in the picture? Boyarsky after the release of ToEE?
-
I was talking about Aspen. Sorry, just popping in and out trying to confuse the issue.
