Bug: Deck rewards/changes lost between adventures
Deekow replied to Deekow's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
To follow up with this, I started over again and had all the upgrades I received the next time I made it to Poison Pill. The only thing that -may- be different (and this is from potentially faulty memory) is that the second time I made it to Poison Pill I actually inspected the cards at the beginning of Poison Pill (once actually 'in' the scenario, beyond the world map, when you choose locations) and clicked the right blue arrow. I'll test this specific perceived difference again tomorrow and report findings. -
I initially played my first few games while being logged in with Facebook (iOS 9, iPad 4th gen). I started with no gold and earned no gold. The "Store" option from the Welcome Page was not enabled. Known issues post referred to earning gold for completing the tutorial, I was a little puzzled by this. I decided to actually create an account through the UI and log in. Once I did, the Store menu option was available. I restarted the tutorial and finished it and started earning gold. I know that there's a 'known issue' regarding no reference to not earning/spending gold unless logged in, but I had understood that I was logged in when connecting with Facebook and that this wouldn't apply.

Bug: Deck rewards/changes lost between adventures
Deekow posted a question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
Still attempting to see if there's anything specific that triggers the behavior, but I have limited information so far. Here's the sequence of events since I started playing: 1. Started a game with Merisiel and Kyra. On the world map screen, went into the card lists and changed cards out (because the suggested/default starting decks are not fantastic ) 2. Hit the blue right arrow to do what appears to save the decks. 3. From the world map screen, went back into the decks to see if it did in fact save as there was no indication that this is how you should actually alter the decks; however, it appeared fine and that all changes were made correctly. 4. Started a game; both character decks were entirely reverted to suggested/default, no changes I made were kept (once such change, as an example was giving Merisiel both daggers as starting equipment, instead of the darts... after the reversion, she had darts again). 5. Deleted the game as I had something worth testing. 6. Started a new game, made same changes, verified that the changes appeared persistent by looking again after "saving"/"moving on". 7. This time, when I actually started Brigandoom, the changes were made and both characters had the starting decks I desired. 8. I finished the scenario successfully, and claimed the new item card rewards. 9. I made changes to the decks, this time with limited options, which adheres to the rules regarding character upgrades between scenarios. 10. I started Poison Pill. 11. Both characters had their entire default starting decks again, with no changes based on my initial starting deck changes, nor earned upgrades swapped in between scenarios. Other than making sure I hit the blue 'right arrow' which seems to be the 'save and move on' during each screen transition, when applicable, i can't think of any other details that stand out. But, if you ask specific questions, maybe that will rattle further details out of me. Will continue seeing if I can find anything that triggers this or further details that may apply. Pricing?
Deekow replied to Doc Mage's topic in Pathfinder Adventures: General Discussion (No Spoilers!)
I understand that board game adaptations probably cost more than standard apps, and I begrudgingly pay some, knowing why the cost is what it is. But, "that other app" is out of their minds with their pricing. I can't imagine their sales are doing very well and I hope they rethink their strategy. And that other games are taking note. -
This seems imminently reasonable to me. I mean, pre-orders are supposed to be a huge benefit and, when you have folks who are clearly willing to go out on a limb, you should make the product available for pre-order. I mean, it shouldn't cost you anything and you'll be assured early cash flow to bump those numbers! Not that I'm biased or anything. <.< Pretty sure that Apple doesn't allow apps on the store to be pre-ordered. Assuming that's true, if other platforms are also available at launch, I don't think they'd alienate the Apple customers by having it available to pre-order for the other platforms. Steam /may/ be an exception as I've seen other businesses handle co-launching between mobile and Steam differently, but I wouldn't bank on it much.

Come On! You're killing us!
Deekow replied to PinkRose's topic in Pathfinder Adventures: General Discussion (No Spoilers!)
Game development takes time, perfect game development takes longer. 95% of the frustration I personally feel, and probably a similar chunk with others, would be alleviated with someone spending 15 minutes once a week to give us some vague high level smoke and mirrors version of progress. Transparency in the business world in every industry has become a necessity for a reason. The few of us that are here could have been the best free marketing and buzz generation tools they ever could have hoped for, but we're getting nothing. I seriously don't feel entitled to anything to include this game or progress updates for the same. But at the same time, there's absolutely nothing being done to hold my interest here, either. I know there's more to it than we're allowed to see; than they're allowed to say. But I'm also not naive enough to think they couldn't communicate with us more regularly on some level without impacting any legalities of the project. The game this app is based on is even losing interest now that the initial rush has it has faded and the innovation it provided has waned due to the wave of the Cult of the New. It's not dead by ANY means, but it's not the vehicle that would have guaranteed overnight success with the app that it once was, either. There are a dozen points to make, a dozen anecdotes to chew on. I really hope this works out and that it's good enough when it comes out to make me eat my words. But, couldn't it have all been done better in the first place? -

It's not like he went into detail about it in the opening first few sentences of the post or anything, either..- 14 replies

I don't know if Obsidian has a system to auto-notify you (though, I'd certainly welcome it if there were). However, Board Game Geek does a great job of following mobile app boardgaming with their "iOS Board Games" blog (that actually follows iOS, Android, and Steam for digital board games). Go here and either subscribe and check it daily, or subscribe to the RSS feed; most email apps have an RSS reader so it won't be actual email, but you'll get the news in the same place. http://boardgamegeek.com/blog/164/ios-board-games

yes, but...the longer we wait, the more interest in this game will wane. especially as the third printed set is about to be released. ROTR is rapidly becoming ancient history. and this coming from one of the people most excited about this project. Do you really think interest in this game will wane, the longer it takes to make it? So, you would prefer that the game comes out now, only half finished with a multitude of bugs? I wonder what would hurt the game more... Yes, I also want to it be out and better now than later, but on the other hand I want it to run properly and that it gives me the game feeling I expect rather than a crappy beta test... (what a lot of other companies do!). I just hope, that RotR will be a success and that the other installments will follow faster than it took to create the core mechanics of the game. At least they don't have to create a new AI for each new setting. A large part of marketing is about timing. Yes, longer it takes to develop, the better the quality should be (though, not always), and time is certainly a factor there; however, the game itself also needs to be relevant at the time or the game WILL sell less, and generate less revenue, which in turn will affect their ability to make more games in this product line. That all said, I really don't want a rushed product, either, I just feel that more marketing would certainly help at least. I don't want a half-finished product pushed out the door, but I do want to know that this is still a priority, where it's at, transparency. The more, and better, marketing there is, the better received the game will be, and the more social buzz will perpetuate the product name. But, even without the ability to throw gobs of money at an app's marketing, they could still post something regularly on Facebook, or even here for that matter, and do 1000% better than they've being doing so far. I don't understand why asking for more information is in any way equated with 'hurting the game'.

ROTR is rapidly becoming ancient history. and this coming from one of the people most excited about this project. This exactly. With RotR well in the rear view mirror, and there being no marketing for this whatsoever, the interest level is going to be pretty dry. Timing is everything with releases and delaying it too much to make it "a better game" may end up losing so much interest that there are no buyers to fuel further development. I wanted this more than any other iOS release at the end of last year, now I'm skeptical I'll ever see it, and don't care half as much as I used to. And trust me when I tell you that I'm a very avid advocate for PACG. I want more than anything to be proven wrong, but the doubt is already seeded.

Any news to share from Obsidian?
Deekow replied to Deekow's topic in Pathfinder Adventures: General Discussion (No Spoilers!)
Ok, THAT was what I wanted to hear. Now I can get all giddy about this again. -
Any news to share from Obsidian?
Deekow replied to Deekow's topic in Pathfinder Adventures: General Discussion (No Spoilers!)
That it even still exists and is moving forward is more than we had before the reply, Nathan, so that's appreciated. It's been a near-complete blackout of information up until now for awhile. Just want to see updates from time to time... all details are great, and hopefully we can see some more visual aspects soon. Thanks! -

No news from PAX South, no replies from the team... quite unfortunate. -

Oh, no delusions or expectations that the game should be sitting in my hands, as of yet (though, I may fantasize a little). Just strange that this has become as silent as it has given that initial hype and timing. Would be nice to see some progress or know how things are going. Pax South starts tomorrow and both Obsidian and Mike Selinker will be onhand... hopefully something comes out there. -
Team Building Exercises
Deekow replied to Nathan Davis's topic in Pathfinder Adventures: General Discussion (No Spoilers!)
We almost have the same S&S party, except that we're using Jirelle instead of Lem. This leads to some interesting design questions. I know you can't give details, but I wonder if you're also considering future editions of the game in your current design decisions. Wrath of the Righteous is already going to include some new mechanics, and I'd assume every new version of the game will include something that adds to the base game engine in some way, as ships/plunder did with S&S. I'm really excited to see this come to life, and equally excited to see how the design changes over time due to the physical game innovations. -
The Future - Or whatyouwannasee?
Deekow replied to C2B's topic in Pathfinder Adventures: General Discussion (No Spoilers!)
Ok, as an absolute fiend of pinball (physical tables, as well as electronic gaming options), and loving Pathfinder as I do... what miracles do I need to manifest to make this happen?? -
I absolutely adore this game, and play it whenever I can. My wife plays and enjoys the game, and this is the only game she does. But, I can easily see why some people don't like it, and understand entirely that they may find this to be an entirely boring and rote experience. Fortunately, I have many other games to play and it's never been an issue. The only issue I see here in the OP is the statement, "The game has real problems". I disagree with this 100%. The game has mechanics you may not enjoy, but those aren't problems, those are your opinions and preferences (which are entirely fine); but no game will appease everyone and that isn't a problem. It's a good thing that we all have unique tastes in hobby and entertainment. If you're referring to lack of theme, read the cards... there's PLENTY of story there. Given that this is a card game, it does a better job than almost anything else at providing a narrative for... a card game (Lord of the Rings LCG does this a bit better, admittedly). If you're referring to errata, there are two answers here. The first is that with a game with this many cards and this many rules, I can't imagine the work it would take to catch every single little thing. No other game with this many moving parts ever has, and I doubt it ever will. There are mistakes on the cards, but not enough to distract from the game, and playing the cards without the errata on the mistake cards doesn't really remove from the enjoyment. Most of the other errata aren't actual errors, but clarifications brought about due to the ambiguity of the English language. Keeping things simple provides too many chances for misinterpretation; being too meticulous and covering every edge case by the wording of the rule on a single card is too precise and loses flavor (as is actually already seen due to some over-correcting on some of the errata). General misunderstandings also happen here that I wouldn't put in the realm of "a problem", such as needing to explain how to read 4-sided dice... yes, they should have caught it, but is it a problem for most players? Does the inclusion of it as a FAQ entry alleviate the problem? Many of the rules/card FAQ questions are simple pedantry and wouldn't have been thought twice about for most players who were playing it absolutely fine... or players that are placing their RPG expectations on how they think the rules would play, rather than how they state they actually do. The only true problem I see is that the game was more popular than their expectations, and that they reached more types of players than they expected and couldn't write a different set of rules and cards for each of them. We don't all learn the same or place the same context on language as written in rules. I'm more than happy to discuss the game and share why I love it with others. I run demos, start campaigns, get others started, answer questions, and advocate for the game every chance I get. But, I've never once considered it a problem or failure if someone doesn't like it. It's not for everyone, NOTHING is for everyone. Why does the game have to be considered to have problems along the same argument? You don't like it? They probably didn't make the game for you. You do like it? There's still a chance they didn't make the game for you... but you're quite fortunate, eh?

At over 400 games played, 1 current RotR campaign almost complete, 1 current S&S campaign struggling happily through AD1, an Organized Play group ready to start, and playing 2-3 games a day at least on OCTGN... I cannot wait for this.
