  1. Yes all is fine. Steam downloads the files, but they are encrypted till the time of the release. Once it is out there is just a small download and the game is ready, but then there should be a patch too, which will need to be downloaded as well (it might already be downloaded too, but cant say for sure)
  2. I wish you had resisted, its certainly confusing to someone that hasn't been following the forums religiously. I came to redeem my key this morning and was thrown that I was getting the Champion edition when my "Digital Fun Pack" had more content in it than that, plus I had the expansion and strategy guide as add-ons. And that is where the backer portal will provide the rest to you.
  3. Good question, but you could always run windows on your macbook to make sure.
  4. Well you will have everything in the Backer Portal to download as well. The editions are not diffrent in game.
  5. Thats how i understood it too, not that i will run into that problem, but how would one patch those Versions ? (im aware of how patching works, but not sure how its solved in this case)
  6. Almost sad it was over so fast no?
  7. I'll never understand how customers can actually demand a monopoly... It's like punching yourself in the face. Yeah that is true even though steam does not really abuse its power so far. But yeah the convenience is the key to just wishing one portal. As long as i dont have to deal with Uplay im OK with most methods of getting a game, hell i would even insert a blu-ray disc into my PC if needed.
  8. But how will I download my cloth map, hmm? RIDDLE ME THAT! Mapgate! Mapghazi! New scandal!! You will have to download the teleportation device first, but beware those come invisible.
  9. Fair enough. Everyone's threshold for moving a dev to a 'be cautious' or 'avoid' list is different (I know I have a few devs on my own list). For me, Obs hasn't hit that mark. On a side note, if you're good with Steam, what's your objection to Origin? I actually use both, and from my perspective, I actually prefer Origin overall. I've had a smoother experience with it than I have with Steam, even though it still has a few rough edges (that store front really needs some fine tuning). Origin is another portal with less games that could as well be in steam for less hassle.
  10. That's certainly one way to interpret it, I guess. And while I agree with the complaints that there could have been better communication by times, I certainly don't agree with your interpretation of Obsidian's actions. So I guess you'll be moving on and not bothering with Obsidian or their forums anymore, then? Depends on the game I bought it may as well play it - the forums are a good place to provide feedback. That said Obsidian are on my be cautious list. EA and Ubisoft are on my don't buy list until they remove mandatory 3rd party programs (Uplay and Origin) If I buy it on Steam that should be the only step I should need for playing the game no secondary sign in needed. Obsidian are great guys and ok Devs but they really need to step up to the plate and start showing fans they appreciate them more. Because they really aren't - yes their games are often outstanding but you only get free passes for so long before people stop caring about you. Happened to Peter Molyneux really easily and American Mcgee and countless other devs - the truth is if people like me and the others expressing dismay at treatment didn't care we'd just slink away and stop buying their products. The fact we're here telling Obsidian they're doing it wrong (treatment of backers) shows they still matter to us, and if we matter to them they'll listen. My personal apologies that you feel this way. It is not our intention. Many of the devs you see on the forums come on here to interact with the backers and fans on their off-time. Lately, many devs have been doing a lot of overtime to get the game out and haven't had a lot of time to come onto the forums. I know the concern is that others have gotten their keys before the backers. I explained why that happened in another post in another thread. It wasn't because we don't love our backers, it had more to do with how complicated it is for us to distribute keys to people. There are a large number of combinations of rewards and tiers and it took us some time to create the backend of the Backer Portal and properly test it for our backers. When people buy items on Steam there is no back end work, they are just immediately granted a key. Really, we just want an easy way for you folks to download your rewards. I hope that the additional wait is worth it for you guys. I think everyone understands that and thanks for this post. I think it just happens when there are no posts about certain issues, which can happen.
  11. But does it come with cheese? Would it even be royal without cheese?
  12. Not coming in an email. You will need to go to the backer portal and head to your products page. Check out the instructions at http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/71574-redeeming-keys-and-rewards-how-to/. What, I have to GET it MYSELF? No no no, this just will not do. As a backer, I demand the key be delivered to me carved on a gold plated plaque, carried by a snow white dove accompanied by the clarion call of triumphant silver trumpets. But, we only have plain old white doves. How about a pegasus? Plain white would do too.
  13. Update on that should be coming up in the next few days. Obsidian (and Paradox) decided to air freight the rewards to Europe to try and get the rewards to backers faster. it is more expensive, but we are trying to get people their goods as fast as possible. If it helps i am sure most of us would pay extra for faster shipping too.

  15. Although I don't agree, I can understand that. That being said, I think they did their best and did an awesome job with the whole development process and dialogue with the fans/backers. Well i do not think they did their best with many things. I think they were just not considering things. If planned and prepared it would be possible to ship games to everyone on release day (+/- a day or so). It would be possible for backers to claim their keys weeks before release. But they are a small team and probably very busy. If it were not for Paradox who could have helped them with that which actually is their job as publisher. So no they did not do their best, but i can excuse that as what matters in the end is that they did the best with their game. Still we can hope they learn and do better next time. You can do all the planning in the world. When implementation comes, you'll find out that both the planning and the implementation are not perfect. Moreover, we do not have access to all underlying factors affecting the process of backers receiving their keys. Is it a problem with Steam ? A lack of planning on Obsidian's part ? Something else ? Who knows ? All we can do is speculate or simply be patient for a few hours/days. I was just going to post this. Unless there's an Early Access situation, which I am absolutely glad that Obsidian did not do, getting keys weeks ahead of time is unrealistic. Keys don't happen weeks ahead of time. I don't claim to know how Steam or GoG or whatever works in that regard but based on past history I highly doubt that's an option. As soon as you can preorder a game keys do exist. Are you able to view keys when you preorder something on Steam? I don't think you can until release. I'll have to remember to check next time. There are lots of things you cannot actually view until release. Like if a preorder includes DLC, you cannot actually view that until the game unlocks. Which is annoying. I'm honestly not sure if you get a key before the game starts to preload or unlocks. Do you? They do have a system in place by that time to associate your account with the game. Pretty sure that steam can generate keys once they list a game on their client. Steam does that for a living after all. I mean, I don't claim to know how it works. Maybe they generate a key right away, maybe not. They don't need a key to associate a purchase with your account. In fact, I'm willing to bet they do NOT associate a key with your account until the game actually releases as you are able to get refunds on preorders, is my understanding. That said, you just posted an assumption as fact. You clearly don't know either. I'm not trying to insult you, but this is just an example of what I find annoying on forums. You make an assumption, you take it as fact, and you base your criticisms on said assumption. tTat's not really a good thing to do. Well i think my assumption is pretty likely, but ok say it is not they still could have contacted steam about that issue when they got their OK for releasing PoE on steam. Also keys were given to the reviewers too, so there is a system in place already. However the point is we will get the game on time which is totally ok, just they could have done more. So if they do a Kickstarter again i hope they learned from this a bit and do better, thats all we can ask for really.

  19. Jesus, have you even ever been to the RSI forums? (And I guarantee my citizen # is higher than yours...) Your complete lack of self-awareness is almost awe-inspiring.... Most likely - I didn't sign up to the website till closer to the end of the KS campaign. I had the opportunity to have been a Golden Ticket holder but didn't think it would have meant much. And yeah the RSI forums aren't always happy - but it's engaged which is a key difference. But you know what I've said my piece those who disagree have that option - those that feel the same as I do aren't going to have their opinions changed by being called babies or told its a temper tantrum. Its too late for Obsidian to fix their idiotic decision we'll all just wait for our keys - those on slow internet will wait longer. I personally wont be bothering with Obsidian in future unless I see some bridge building and will be telling the people I know to stay away, whether or not that effects them (probably not) who can say. But honestly I respected these guys and was really rooting for them to succeed, and sure maybe they will but I'm disappointed in them for their actions I thought they would have been better. Well since PoE looks like the game i was hoping for i will be glad to back them again. Maybe just to get a cheaper version though, since i will be buying their games anyways. But lets be honest, their games are so great that i cannot really see me passing on a signed collectors edition.
  20. Hmm sleep is not an option any more with the alarm going in 2 hours.
  21. We should send a party to explore the luskan mines, i heard that is where obsidian gets their iron.
  22. So a finished product (the one on the DVD) is not the finished product because it misses a patch? Now that is something i do not understand. Then I probably can't help you. Option 1 - Early access to a game with known bugs Option 2 - Access to a fully patched version of the game on the day you were told it would be available. The question, once again, is why would someone want option 1 over option 2? There may be a very good explanation, I just don't know what it is and need someone to explain it to me. I would choose version 2 all the time, but it looks polished at option 1 and that is what many see. Also reviewers will rate and review just that version for their score.
  23. I am aware of the common practice and do not mind it, but they still get the full playable game from start to end. So there is not a huge difference to the full release version, also the patch might already be ready and uploaded as it is now wednesday already for 4 hours.
