Mandalorian Assault Armor
ken the great replied to Bulgaroctonus's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm not sure what you mean by the true Mandalorian Assualt Armor. There are a few different types of Mandalorian Armor. Can you be a little more specific about what you are looking for? PS KOTOR2 is not Xbox Live enabled. There won't be any downloadable content this time around. -
Will KOTOR2 have Downloadable content?
ken the great replied to israeli_redneck's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
For patch support, it hurts. But at the same time, "new" content is just a way to get you to shell out an extra 10 bucks for things that should have been in the game in the first place. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly! I have no interest in online gaming. I'm not going to pay Microsoft $10 a month just so I can get some patches and extra content to a single player game. -
Sorry, I didn't think including that one name that isn't on the box or the website was very spoilerish. @Hades: So, should every game be programmed with the hartdcore RPGer in mind? I would not consider K1 to be a hardcore RPG experience. It is more RPG for the masses. Why do you expect something different from the sequal?

How Long Would It Take 2 Make Kotor3
ken the great replied to XboxSithLord's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The time it would take depends on the complexity of the new engine. State of the art graphics engines (Source, Quake, Doom, etc) take 3-5 years to program. If we are willing to accept lesser graphics, then 2-3 years is do able. Less creative games like FPS and RTS games take 12-15 months of development time if they are not creating a new gameplay engine. A good RPG takes 15-18 months to properly develop without creating a new gameplay system. -
Not to wander back on topic or anything...... But KOTOR2 is too easy for experienced gamers. Unfortantely, that is a common problem for sequals. K2's main problem is the difficulty of the opponents. The masters and sith lords need to be tougher. They should be about 5 levels above the players current level. That way it is a struggle to defeat them. All of the Masters and Lords should have an uber-powerful force power that they actually use in combat. Nihilis could have a really powerful life drain that drained both force points and life points faster than the refular life drain. Sion could have some combat related feats that make him really tough. The Jedi Masters could each have a force power/feats that are appropriate for Jedi Guardians, Watchmen and Masters. The world bosses should have been tougher too. It should always be a struggle to get through an area. The player should have a sense of accomplishment. That just doesn't happen enough in K2. The end game opponents aren't tough enough either. My 15/10 Sentinal/Watchmen should have some difficulty defeating 2 Sith Marauders and a Sith Lord with 6 supporting Sith Soldiers/Grenadiers. With the right combinations, I could defeat them and take less than 20 points of damage. It should have been more of a struggle to get through some of those areas. They didn't make the opponents tough enough through out the game. My high level character should be able to clear a room full of Sith soldiers. He should have had more of a fight against prestige class Sith Jedi. I would like to know who made the decision to make the game easier. It's almost like someone wants the mass public to enjoy the game and not just the dedicated gamer. Kind of like Star Wars: Episode 1, huh?

-------- I understand your frustration. However, I have played many other console games with bugs. This isn't a new trend. And just for the some other people here (<cough><cough>Hades<cough><cough>), I'll give you a little education on the games industry. Small development houses like Obsidian do not have adequate QA departments to fully test a game. Developers are lousy at QA. They are also lousy at support. In a relationship like the one between Obsidian and LA (where the publisher owns the property), the publisher is almost completely responsible for final QA and ongoing support. --------- It had everything to do with it. LA rushed this out 2 months early. With that extra development time, some of the bugs might have been squashed. Then again, maybe not. We shall never know. ---------- Then place this post in a forum where spoilers are allowed. Like the Xbox forum or the tech support forum. ---------- There are many places where you can do this. Many of the conversation trees allow you to replay them. Your responses the second time through are just as dark/light as the first time through. This is not a bug. ---------- I never noticed this. I didn't think the ship's real map appeared until after I boarded the ship. I'll check this the next time through. Since you can't go through the door that leads to the ship until after you dock, it should not be confusing. There are still walls. ------------ So, how is this a bug? Maybe that was supposed to be your out if you couldn't defeat that "character". Maybe you should have worked more on your combat skills before trying that battle. That battle really shouldn't have been a problem for a 10+ level character. ---------------- That's because there were probably two of those items. I can only think of two items that are exactly 6000 credits. You collect the two items together. You can actually collect a two sets of this pair if you go back to a certain cantina before leaving a certain world. I'm not saying that your experience was not a glitch, but maybe you forgot that you had two different items that looked almost identical. The really, really annoying issues: ---------------- I've had that happen exactly twice. Both times were at the end of long sessions on my Xbox. **** happens sometimes. How many times have you had your computer crash for an unknown reason? Oh, btw, have you modified your Xbox? I am curious to know how many peop0le experiencing frequent load failures have moddified Xboxes. ----------- The only time I have had any lag was in large battles. And first person is useless in battle, so I again ask, have you modified your Xbox? ------------ I have not had any sound issues at all. Some of the conversation clips need some work. Usually, I am standing very very close to the character and the first person camera cannot compensate for my proximity. Try staying a couple of steps back when you have a conversation. --------------- I've had not problems like this at all. Have you modified your Xbox? --------------- This is annoying. The interaction is not failing, the pathfinding just sucks. This is not new to RPGs and gaming. Nor is this a "bug". It is just bad programming. --------------- Of course they are there. This is still a product made by humans. I don't believe a polished game can be released in less than 20 months. It takes 3-4 months of bug testing to properly polish any game. By all accounts, Obsidian only had 18 months to get KOTOR2 completed.

That's not a force power.

Who Do You Think Should Make KOTOR III?
ken the great replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I think there will be a KOTOR3. My gut says it will come out as an Xbox2 game for Xmas 2006. With a new engine. I've heard Valve is looking to port the Source engine over to consoles. " -
35-40% of the time the game fails to load.
ken the great replied to megaton's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It's not the only one for me. Top Spin takes forever to load a new match (even in the same tournament). And Sudeki had some longish load times. I think load times are going to be a persistant problem(console and PC) as long as we demand great grahics in our games. I'm not having any problems at all. I've only locked up once, and that was after playing for 10 hours straight. I thnk the Xbox over heated a little. -

I disagree with that. If the money is right, they'll do another licensed game. -
The influence of nostalgia on gamers' TSL rating
ken the great replied to Nur Ab Sal's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It's both. You can follow the dark side by being an out and out thug. You can always side with the darker forces and fight the "good guys." You can kill people indescrimanetly and destroy everything in your path. You can act like Darth Malak if you choose. Or, you can follow the dark side by manipulating people into doing your evil plans without realizing it. Without giving away too much information, there is a quest were you get to completely decimate one side over the other while pretending to help the side you are destroying. Also, through the influence system, you can "justify" your actions to certain characters as really being light side actions. You can be like Emperor Palpatine. Pulling stings and getting people to do things without revealing too much of your true nature to everyone else. The game lets you play the dark side how you choose to play it. The best DS characters will use some of both philosophies during the game. And the dialogue options usually allow both a deceptive answer and a forceful answer. The DS side is much more flexible than it was in KOTOR1. -

To rebut your wish for a freeform open KOTOR. Not everyone wants a 100-200 hour game. I think both KOTOR games are a good length. There is lots to do and plenty of areas to explore. -

Then go find a Star Wars mod for Morrowwind. KOTOR was never intended to be a 200+ hour game. -
The influence of nostalgia on gamers' TSL rating
ken the great replied to Nur Ab Sal's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The influence system is cool. The mixed bag is people expecting too much from the programming. Then take myword for it, the dialogue is better in KOTOR2. The dialogue is more diverse and has better options. It is much easier to go the gray path in KOTOR2 than it was in KOTOR1. There is no need to balance good and bad responses. You can just pick the gray one. The first one had a brutal dark side path. You were pretty much a thug if you went DS. In KOTOR2 you can be a true Sith Lord. You can use decpetion and manipulation to achieve your goals. Your selfishness can be hidden behind many layers of lies and deciept. I would say more, but then I would include too many spoilers. Yes, but you had to go through the clunky inventory system to switch weapons. In KOTOR2, you can setup two sets of weapons and switch between those sets during combat. It is much more fluid to switch between ranged weapons and melee weapons during combat. Then what is an improvement? If it is good and not in the first game, shouldn't it be called an improvement? So? Then don't use the workbench. Play the game how you want to play it. There were some skills that weren't very useful in KOTOR1. Things like a high demolition or a high security weren't that important. If you ran into a mine you couldn't recover, chances are you could disable it with a 5 or 6 in demolitions. And if you couldn't open a lock, just bash it. You wouldn't damage the contents. In KOTOR2, if you bash a chest, you risk damaging the contents. Also, the skills in dialogue add some flavor and immersion factor to the game. If you are a computer expert, then you will be able to pick dialogue options that reflect your skill. Tsk, tsk. Maybe you should actually play the game before you belittle someone for their opinion. Perhaps your expectations are too high and you are unable to see the improvements because KOTOR2 isn't a leap forward from KOTOR1. -
Have you returned your copy of KOTOR 2?
ken the great replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Most of whom? Those of us that enjoy the game see no reason to create such a poll. It would be a better poll if the options were more balanced. It is obvious that craftsman is not enjoying TSL and wants to sway other people towards his oprinion. If he really wanted an honest poll, he would have presented better options for those of us that are enjoying the heck out of the game. -
The influence of nostalgia on gamers' TSL rating
ken the great replied to Nur Ab Sal's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Because people are expecting KOTOR2 to be a ground breaking game. It's not. KOTOR2 is a good solid game that I am am enjoying. How many mediocre games receive good scores because nobody expected them to be good? And hoe many good games get bad scores because they failed to live up to the lofty expactations of the reviewer. Expectations are everything in the review business. -

ken the great replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm sure they will fix some of the quest issues and the dialogue/subtitles mismatching. Hopefully they've fixed the ATI graphics problems from the first KOTOR. I never could get the graphics right when I was on Dantooine during KOTOR. There were just too many kath hounds on screen to render properly. -

Who Do You Think Should Make KOTOR III?
ken the great replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Agreed. I ran into a couple of mission quest bugs, but no serious show stoppers. I wonder how many people with show stopping bugs have modified their xboxes. " In my experience, most of the glitchy behavior was at the end of a long day of play. It can probably be explained by the heat generated by the Xbox. -
Who Do You Think Should Make KOTOR III?
ken the great replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I hate that attitude. If you are just a consuimer, then what the hell are you doing here discussing this project? Why should you even care? You're just a consumer, right? BS. That's BS too. Console games are still pieces of software with millions of lines of code. Uniform hardware is nice, but it doesn't end the potential for human error or oversight. It is impossible for any game designer to guess how every user will play the game. Bugs are a part of software. That's just the way it is. Agreed. The frame rate issues should be non-existant in KOTOR2. So should many of the graphical glitches and other game engine items. All of those things should have been documented with the release of KOTOR and stomped out in KOTOR2. -
In my first game, I played as a Jedi Sentinal / Watcher. I loved Stasis Field. It was really helpful later in the game. I had a wicked Stasis Field / Master Speed / Master Flury or Master Power combo going by the end of the game. I could take out 6-10 baddies before the stasis field wore off. I could even kill Sith Marauders in two flurries. It was very cool. (w00t)

I played KOTOR1 on the PC. At the time, my computer was as good as it gets in PC gaming. There were many times on Dantooine that I lagged in battle. Especially with all the Kath Hounds around. It is not just a console thing.

Level Up strategy (saving your lvl ups)

You can spend points on the lightsaber feats before you get your lightsaber. Both the weapon specialist and the finesse training are available from the beginning of the game. As is the throw lightsaber force power. -
Prima Guide in Question

Yep. The guide was probably completed months ago, before all of the play balance issues were resolved. The same goes for the manual. LA =
