Been a couple of decades since I read it; my memory was that there was implication of great powers if not demonstration of such (but again, the memory cheats, if not outright lies at times). as we noted, there were indeed implication o' some kinda vague supernatural power, but nothing to suggest anything even remote akin to the recent mummy films. leave to reader's imagination. however, cataclysm were actual addressed. if the queen had biblical plague kinda power, am sure the nature o' the potential cataclysm woulda been described different. the looming catastrophe were seen as resulting from the queen's existence and resurrection as such were proof of the vitality o' the egyptian gods in a world which had dismissed such stuff as akin to fairy tales. old world mysticism and new world science come into conflict were nature o' the apocalypse and not rain of fire and rivers of blood. there were "it was a dark and stormy night" kinda divine warning weather, but such were described as Powers angered by the queen's impending resurrection and not brought 'bout by the queen herself. HA! Good Fun!

kinda off-topic. eh. am thinking picture is misleading. typical wingspan, the outstretched max fingertip-to-fingertip distance for an adult man is within a few inches of height. 'stead of having one arm bent, where does outstretched left arm o' the harpooner reach along the length o' the weapon pictured? traditional spear is 6' to 8' haft. pike is at least 10'. affix harpoon socket to a more reasonable (less) heavy haft and am thinking you got something which is at least traditional spear size... even if still stupid. am guessing the girth to' the haft is what is making a few folks see as a pike. clearly the harpoon in the picture ain't gonna be wielded one-handed with a shield, eh? the most obvious distinguishing feature 'tween a spear and pike, its length, is not what is making the pictured harpoon seem pike-like. HA! Good Fun!

as hurl mentions, elektra were an eponymous lead. there has also been more than a few female characters in marvel films who deserve co-lead status in ensemble cast. captain marvel is also in the works. also, while weren't a marvel films release, 'cause marvel films didn't exist at the time, we will observe red sonja were 1985, and the movie protagonist were clear based 'pon the marvel comics character rather than red sonya from a robert e. howard story, a flintlock wielding polish lass with red hair and a temper to match. HA! Good Fun!

a legit weapon for hunting whales and elephant seals. harpoon, at best, is spear-like. is hurled. is barbed. is extreme heavy with the 5' to 6' wooden shaft being as much as 2" in diameter to give the weapon greater heft and penetrating power. has a rope attached the harpoon socket, which were not bolted or fixed to the shaft 'cause the shaft were designed to release from the socket. yes, the harpoon has a pointy end and a wooden shaft of some length, but the harpoon were not designed as a weapon for fighting human beings. suggest that in reality a harpoon would function similar as a spear or be particular useful as a melee weapon is as ridiculous as larder door. however, yet again, this is a situation where reality need not impede a kewl idea. harpoons fit w/i the setting. am sure the developers could come up with a nifty harpoon weapon for poe2. in spite o' the reality o' the harpoon being an uncommonly ridiculous weapon for most situations, am thinking it would work fine in poe2... and as spear is the only poe weapon even similar to a harpoon, we would have few reservations to a poe2 showing up in the game as a spear. a special harpoon as a melee weapon in poe2 is ridiculous. don't make it a bad idea. just need make sure it fits the setting and the overall aesthetic. HA! Good Fun! ps and for the wacky folks equating spear gun projectiles with spears, am forced to recall the idiocy many ad&d dms faced when players chose to use a lucerne hammer as their weapon of choice... 'cause is a big warhammer, yes? more than a few clerics o' thor wielding a lucerne hammer. pps and since the original scope o' the thread has been lost, we will indulge in gauche reminder. am not thinking the point o' the thread were to come up with a list o' kewl or improbable poe2 weapons. genesis poster posited how difficult it would be to exceed or even equal the larder door in terms of "sheer wtf." not need compile an increasing list to recognize the ease with which the developers could match the larder door's you-must-be-smoking-something quality. am thinking by now it should be kinda obvious the developers could do something equal unique as the larder door w/o much effort at all, no? we will note there is likely a highly subjective goldilocks zone for such stuff. the wtf must be fun/kewl. must be appropriate to the setting. at the same time, must not violate highly fluid aesthetic notions. if somebody wanted to, a warhammer 40k chainsword could be explained via the logic o' the setting, but would such a thing be out-of-place or would it be easily accepted by all poe2 gamers? unlikely acceptance. how wtf is too wtf? what kinda wtf is acceptable? magic is ok, but does ordinary physics still apply? is some leeway? how much leeway? *shrug* oh, and to reiterate, larder doors and harpoons is ridiculous... but not necessarily bad ideas.

biggest loser from public comey hearing today were mccain. honest, and am not joking, we were concerned for mccain. he did not seem well. anything but sentorian, his voice were weak and strained. his line of questioning were confused, repetitive and often nonsensical. had us genuine worried for his health/condition. -
am wondering what global threat the bride will represent. btw, we recent read jewel from stoker. no such explicit global threat from the mummy, and the cataclysm implied were metaphorical at that. the queen/mummy from stoker weren't exhibiting ww kinda super powers. weren't raining down biblical plagues on modern cities. weren't some kinda plan for global domination on the part o' the antagonist. the queen's supernatural powers were subtle (save for immortality) and largely implied. the cataclysm her existence and resurrection represented were not literal. as a display o' the vitality and power o' the egyptian gods, her existence would possible shatter faith in modern notions o' science and christianity. old monster films did rely on more psychological terrors o far more limited scope than am seeing from most cinema today. more adventure. more grandiose scope. get further removed from the nameless thing lurking in the closet or the creature under the bed. is not jungian archetypes or metaphors for sin. modern mummies is ww3 or global biological pandemic or brexit. universal gonna need their own Justice League Dark to combat monsters who seems more akin to recent comic movie supervillains than the fare from stoker's story. is nothing inherent wrong with a modern studio desiring to utilize a global threat approach to monsters. 21st century problems is bigger. monsters tend to be an embodiment o' the great threats to society and perhaps sin just don't make the cut. nevertheless, we weep a bit at the loss. HA! Good Fun!

Oh sure, I was simply pointing out that there is a solution. As I said, (many) people thoroughly dislike it. Yeah it's odd. You'd think that one would simply keep a spreadsheet (or more sophisticated tool) of all xp sources in the game (far easier in a game without monster xp) and set the amount of xp needed for each level appropriately, yet even before the release of the White March DLCs it was relatively easy to reach the level cap a fair way before the end of the game. I suspect that doing the above is a rather boring job though, particularly if you don't do so meticulously from the start, and so perhaps the devs tried to estimate this sort of thing instead, hence the reason they got it wrong. doesn't sound as if the developers were estimating. josh gave examples regarding the addition o' exploration and lockpick xp. obsidians pointed out how they knew the exact amounts of xp possible in game, maps, and areas. if new sources o' xp were added, balance would be retained 'cause would be a simple matter o' decreasing other sources by same amounts. implementing exploration and lockpick xp were not gonna be any kinda resource drain as the developers already had the tools to track xp with exactitude. which again is why the leveling issues o' poe were so curious. developers were extreme confident regarding xp awards. there were something fundamental flawed with the obsidian approach to poe xp tracking. weren't a matter o' a couple developers failing to track xp correct in a limited number o' instances. developers believed a completionist would need work hard to reach the cap late in the game. something fundamental and/or major were busted with the obsidian approach to tracking. until such flaw is identified and corrected, is almost guaranteed we will see a leveling problem in poe2 regardless o' the scheme implemented. HA! Good Fun!

... am feeling as if folks is purposeful trying to goad us with these kinda responses today. is there some kinda betting pool of which we ain't aware? have had some o' the weirdest dialogues today. regardless, the post at the top of the linked page is where we provide the answer to your question. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/80219-why-did-obsidian-despise-light-side-revan/page-3?do=findComment&comment=1704723 the next post by Gromnir clarifies a smidgen, but the answer to your initial question is, for the most part, in the post at the top o' the page. oh well. good for another two years or so. HA! Good Fun!

So, sort of roleplaying the Gromnir character and being RL Gromnir at the same time? Also, going straight to that link didn't explain it, had to go back about 8 posts for the start of the explaination, mainly that's because ToB Gromnir isn't mentioned at the link, but further back. you asked about our curious posting style, which had nothing actual to do with tob. couple posts after the link is the only other post which actual addresses your query. we added the tob part simple 'cause is a typical follow-up question for a few people. didn't need read in the linked thread as we clarified how board Gromnir pre-dated tob Gromnir. didn't actual have anything to do with your initial question either. *shrug* HA! Good Fun!

off-topic, but am guessing once every couple o' years the same question is asked, so will invoke a point o' personal privilege via parliamentary rules to reply. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/80219-why-did-obsidian-despise-light-side-revan/?p=1704723 ... if we don't clarify, somebody will likely point out how messageboard Gromnir is mimicking tob Gromnir, but the tob character is actual a kinda developer joke seeming inspired by the board Gromnir. is no chicken v. egg conundrum. HA! Good Fun!

You say my comments are crazy, yet suggest a boat oar. am much aware o' the miyamoto musashi stuff, but such is apocryphal... at best. we suggested your comments were crazy, then admitted it didn't matter if the notion were objective crazy. larder door is crazy. so what? is fun and fits w/i the setting. try and rationalize with reality is not a viable option. HA! Good Fun!

a good blt is art, but is perhaps ironic to be realizing the arguable most plebeian ingredient is also the one which is skimped most often. perfect bread can be expensive and/or difficult to find. gonna bake your own? perhaps, but to do correct you need special kinda ovens. bacon? raise hand if you cure your own bacon. anybody? gonna need purchase your bacon and find REAL dry-cured bacon is not simple for most folks in city or suburbs. is clear differences 'tween good and bad lettuce. grocery store iceberg is bitter and lacking any kinda depth. might as well lick satan's @$$. mayonnaise. get yourself a reasonable fresh egg and any decent lemon... other ingredients is likely in your cabinet and could be purchased from any supermarket. sure, mayonnaise has a chance o' failure no matter how great your technique and planning. emulsions can be quirky, and mayonnaise is quirkier than most. experiment with vinegars and mustard and type o' oil. am not certain why is so difficult to get good mayo. is basic. is not fancy. is not requiring expensive or exotic ingredients. what could possible be so difficult 'bout good mayo? btw, good rule o' thumb is if the mayo on your blt is bright white, like the store bought hellmann's or best foods or whatever, then send back. honest. think 'bout it. you start with an egg yolk and add dry mustard, salt and lemon juice to a neutral oil, so what color is your mayo gonna be? HA! Good Fun! ps what is with the aioli trend? mayo + garlic. can add all kinda stuff to mayo and is still mayo, but introduce garlic and sudden is exotic and needs a new name. tack on another $1.50 to bill 'cause is aioli 'stead o' mayo.

something in the water today? can't get anybody to pay attention. TRUMP offered numbers which he claimed were the impact Paris Agreement would have on projected temp increases. he did so in a televised speech. TRUMP wh claimed the mitigation numbers the President offered came from MIT. unfortunate for trump, MIT refuted the alternative facts with the actual numbers they had provided. nobody here has actual argued the projected temp increase. serious folks, wth is going on today? HA! Good Fun!

not much o' a challenge. first, yeah, a larder door is ridiculous as a shield, regardless o' karkarov comments. would be heavy. would be unwieldy. would not last more than a single combat, we suspect, as a larder door ain't designed as a shield. but poe is a fantasy game. the ridiculous is commonplace whether most folks realize or not. as long as is in keeping with aesthetic and/or is funny, am ok with such stuff. am suspecting xoti's lantern may be a curious item, but even so, off the top o' our head, we can imagine a few equal ridiculous items. some kinda giant shell-shield would be obvious. too obvious? ok then, how 'bout the bloody oar? captain roe (pun intended... sorry) fought off a frenzy o' weresharks, but at the last he need face the hammerhead queen herself and his magic cutlass lay shattered 'pon the rocky shore, and his flintlock pistol were outta ammo. as a last desperate act, the captain grabbed a small, discarded oar from a blood filled tidepool at his feet and rushed the queen, bellowing mightily as he met his inevitable doom... yadda, yadda, yadda. if is a broken oar, can make into a club or mace. if is a full oar, perhaps whittled down a bit, might call equivalent o' a quarterstaff. want weirder? how 'bout a petrified eel, sharpened into an impossibly sharp and stony blade? even sillier. electric & petrified perhaps? easy. HA! Good Fun!

Pathfinder CRPG with Avellone and without Obsidian announced
Gromnir replied to Doppelschwert's topic in Computer and Console
initial query: there are 11 core pathfinder classes, so which is absent from kingmaker? http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/coreRulebook/classes.html kickstarter does says 10+, so is possible the core 11 is already in the game, but is curious to us nevertheless. anybody can confirm if all 11 core is included? HA! Good Fun! ps is just a guess, but to answer doppelschwert, am expecting chrisA would rather cut out his own tongue with a rusty razor than be compelled to boast of his contribution to poe. am assuming the question were serious. if were a joke, then, uh... good one? -

vp senate tie breaker has gotten considerable use over the years. is actual pretty darn significant. HA! Good Fun! -
https://www.climateinteractive.org/insights/response-to-white-house-talking-points-on-paris-agreement/ perhaps use of actual link helps best. business as usual = 4.2C increase by 2100 Paris Agreement = 3.3C increase by 2100 (mit, for purposes of graph, settled 'pon .9 'stead of range from .6 to 1.1... otherwise would see 3.1 to 3.6C) take US out of agreement and the numbers would skew upwards by .3C, yes? 3.4 to 3.9C. HA! Good Fun!
-
So since the US is no longer in the accord, add 0.3. So add that 0.3 to the mythical expected temperature increase of 0.6 to 1.1 and you get the result of a expected temperature increase of 0.9 to 1.4C. You can just forget I asked you a question. Ill wait ands see if someone else circles back to answer. where do you see .6 to 1.1 as the expected temp increase under the paris agreement? "In fact, the MIT research to which the president referred showed that the Paris Agreement could lower the expected temperature increase by 0.6 to 1.1 C." the overall global increase with Paris goals met is indeed mythical given the info you have available. you know potential reduction with or w/o US, but you don't know "the expected temperature increase." subtract. is not add. ... *shrug* leave as-is. you are reading a projected decrease of the expected increase as the increase itself.

well, the XXII amendment weren't added to the Constitution until 1947, so am guessing even if are limiting to US history, one can find some basis for figuring out how such a thing might work. HA! Good Fun! ps our snarkiness is high today 'cause am not sure if we is being punk'd by gifted and am having needs deal with others we know is doing the brainfreeze bit unintentional. -
gonna keep doing this 'til am certain. you need to subtract, not add. you subtract from the estimated reduction, 'cause you do not know what is the estimated increase. 'cause gifted hasn't bothered to check, all you know is: A) amount of global warming due to US if they exit the Paris Agreement. B) the amount global warming will be lessened by the Paris Agreement. from A and B you do not know the projected amount of global warming anticipated with or w/o the Paris Agreement. HA! Good Fun!

again, you have revered 'cause such should be our line. HA! Good Fun! Slurring speech too. if in the present disagreement with wod, Gromnir suggests, "clearly The Media is nothing more than the propaganda arm of the Democratic National Committee," folks is clear understanding it is used as humorous exaggeration. maybe we add an *insert eye-roll here* for folks. is sardonic. this is the way intended hyperbolic metaphor is 'posed to be utilized. were wod attempting to poke fun at the notion o' the dnc and The Media being aligned? no. wod trying to have both ways. makes an initial ridiculous observation which he attempts to defend. when defense proves untenable, then he wants to claim exaggeration... for dramatic effect? attempts to validate with poorly understood literary technique. as to gifted characterization, am indeed glad municipalities and states and corporate entities is stepping up to fill the void. even so, the paris agreement were asking individual nations to make voluntary reductions o' carbon emissions. if the tea tax (which ironic lowered the cost o' tea) were left entirely up to the 13 colonies to set whatever amount they felt appropriate, am doubting folks woulda' seen Georgie as being in anybody's face. is what Paris Agreement does. HA! Good Fun! ps edited out a rather tame twilight zone reference after seeing amentep remarks. apologies nonetheless. -
There is, but people don't like it: have the only source of experience in the game be the main quest line. This gives the developer complete control over the rate at which the player levels and removes the problem altogether. But every time I've suggested this people complain that the player should be rewarded for doing optional content. Putting aside for a moment that you can still be rewarded with loot, and the fact that the content itself can be enjoyable*, this complaint seems strange. After all, the very same people are often those who complain about feeling overpowered as a result of being completionists, even though the two complaints are essentially at odds with one another. I suspect that it's a matter of inertia. Role-playing games have always given experience for optional content and people don't like change, so whilst they can clearly see the problem of out levelling the critical path, they won't even consider the obvious solution. As an aside, the removal of experience for killing things is another example of this sort of inertia. *If the only reason you're doing optional content is for experience, I think you might be playing the wrong game. xp limited to the critical path has been suggested frequent enough by numerous folks including Gromnir. however, what one must recall is just how much resistance there were to the simple notion o' implementing objective xp in poe. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/68476-discussion-the-poe-beta-xp-system/page-1?hl=%20gromnir%20%20objective%20%20experience were multiple 30 page threads in which half the posters predicted doom for poe if objective xp were implemented instead o' more familiar schemes from the ie games. the most significant obstacle to fixing poe2 leveling is discovering how/where obsidian went wrong with poe1, 'cause pre-release, the developers were absolute certain they understood leveling. josh were certain completionists would not reach the cap 'til late in the game. obsidians provided examples o' how they had complete control o' xp rewards in game total, per area and per map. keeping xp balanced were seen to be an easy task given the tools the developers had at hand. clear something went amiss. whatever scheme folks come up with to fix poe 2 leveling must needs be addressing the antecedent problem. HA! Good Fun!
