  1. HA! Good Fun!
  2. amazon prime has a few danny kaye titles including the inspector general and the court jester. no matter how ridiculous, we can't keep self from smiling when we see danny kaye stuff. seems like a good time for a few o' his movies. HA! Good Fun!
  3. in retrospect am seeing how tchaikovsky would be an effective distraction for a bored babushka, but were not our goal in posting. regardless, am glad it helped. april 1 will be nixon in china, which am admitting we only know one aria from the entire opera. will likely check out tannhäuser as well. not a sooper popular wagner opera, but were a kinda/sorta/slight inspiration for gaiman's neverwhere. only have seen one performance o' tannhäuser and were not met quality. aside: fact comrademaster didn't dr00l all over himself when presented with a freebie link to the 2007 met performance o' eugene onegin makes us serious question his cred. HA! Good Fun!
  4. well, am gonna hope folks take this serious and we starve the virus 'nuff so we can get to whatever is the new normal sooner rather than later. largely automated workforce and ubi? not anytime soon, but maybe this kinda thing gets us headed in the right direction. in any event, good luck. we went and did shopping for folks this AM. none o' the area stores have 24 hour availability anymore as they need shut down for deep cleans every eve, so we were at a "local" store at 6AM. local for us is a 25-minute drive. mostly older folks were clustered at the entrance o' the supermarket when we arrived. we got more than a few grocery stores which offer senior hours, but most is doing such on specific days as 'posed to entire week. anyways, we get to store at 6AM and manager announces to those assembled: almost no tp; few paper products in general; produce and egg deliveries would be taking place at 9AM; fresh meats were well-stocked. we did manage to get kleenex for a few folks on our list. there were a couple bags o' jasmine rice on shelves. nothing else for rice folks. couple bags o' black beans were all that were available for legume lovers. no potatoes. frozen vegetables were in short supply. prepared frozen foods were plentiful. could fill your freezer with frozen pizza if you so desired. milk were well stocked. plenty o' apples and lettuce and bananas. tomatoes were abundant and looked surprisingly good for the season. a few varieties o' soups were absent, but most were available and in numbers. hit and miss. weird part were how in spite o' fact the shoppers were mostly older, they had almost zero respect for social distancing, even those people wearing masks and gloves were crowding together. literal had one woman brush past us to get at the yogurts she wanted. weren't just customers neither. we asked bakery guy which packaged bagels were cinnamon-raisin (decided not for Gromnir btw) and the guy came out from behind his counter and got in our personal space in a way we wouldn't like even if there weren't covid-19 to worry 'bout. we had specific asked if he could point out the desired bagels "from a distance." dunno, feels like older folks in particular ain't taking social distancing serious and others is almost going out o' their way to show they ain't scared. regardless, shopping were quasi successful. next week am gonna try for a costco run. we could personal avoid shopping for a month (or more) w/o trouble as am well and good stocked with everything but stock-- chicken, beef and vegetable. our senior friends feel bad 'bout us doing shopping for 'em so am suspecting they keep their lists brief so as not to overwhelm us. have pointed out how is better for everybody, Gromnir included, if our friends have us do shopping which will carry 'em through at least a couple weeks, but is so tough for people to accept help. HA! Good Fun!
  5. our baked beans is heavy on the jalapeno. the recipe is also heavy on bacon-- 1lb bacon:1lb beans. as healthful as is beans, with bacon, molasses and brown sugar making major contributions, our baked bean recipe deserves a surgeon general warning label. beans need soak overnight and then takes 'bout 6ish hours at 250 to fully bake, so is not a 5PM decision for a 6PM meal kinda thing. positive side: 'tween the plentiful bacon and jalapeno, the house smells delicious whilst cooking continues. is one o' our more popular potluck offerings. maybe not quite on par with our mac and cheese, but is in the tight group o' potential second bests. am assuming folks have an overabundance o' legumes n' such at the moment, so later we might post recipe... gonna head to store for 6AM opening. HA! Good Fun!
  6. HA! Good Fun!
  7. 1993 HA! Good Fun!
  8. a couple inspired by a @Guard Dog post the following are versions o' ubiquitous internet available recipes. these is not Gromnir recipes and am not taking credit in any way. Black Bean Soup Ingredients • 2 T vegetable oil • 3⁄4 c diced white onion • 3⁄4 c diced celery • 1⁄2 c diced carrot • 1⁄4 c diced green bell pepper • 2 T minced garlic • 4 (15 ounce) cans black beans • 4 c chicken stock • 2 T apple cider vinegar • 2 t chili powder • 1⁄2 t cayenne pepper • 1⁄2 t cumin • 1⁄2 t salt • 1⁄4 t hickory liquid smoke • garnish • shredded monterey jack and cheddar cheese blend, blend • chopped green onion, sour cream 1. heat 2 T of oil in a large saucepan over medium/low heat. add onion, celery, carrot, bell pepper, and garlic to the oil and simmer slowly, for 15 minutes or until the onions are translucent. don't brown. 2. while you cook the veggies, pour the canned beans into a strainer and rinse them under cold water. 3. measure 3 c of the drained and strained beans into a food processor with 1 c of chicken stock. Puree on high speed until smooth. 4. when the veggies are ready, pour the pureed beans, the whole beans, the rest of the chicken stock, and every other ingredient in the list (down to liquid smoke), to the pot. bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 50 to 60 minutes or until soup has thickened and all the ingredients are tender. serve the soup topped with a couple T of the cheese blend and a t or so of chopped green onion T=tablespoon, t=teaspoon, c=cup and monastery lentils the lentils, in particular, is a staple for us which contains most o' the stuff we need to survive and thrive. we prefer with beef stock as 'posed to chicken for the recipe, but vegetable stock would be fine for any hardcore vegetarians and/or catholics during lent. is also noteworthy how this is perhaps the only recipe for which we use brown lentils. have tried with green and even beluga. cheap brown lentils is our favorite for this, and only this recipe. it freezes well. when we were taking care o' our sister, she insisted on doubling the sherry, and then she would add a bit o' sherry whenever she microwaved a bowl o' the lentils. she liked the sherry. we would use amontillado for no other reason than whimsy factor. HA! Good Fun! ps forgot to mention, but the lentils is one o' the few recipes for which we frequent use diced tomatoes. canned diced tomatoes is always treated with a preservative which affects taste and prevents the tomatoes from breaking down as does whole tomatoes. we avoid diced. that said, at the recommended cooking time, even if you thoroughly hand crush tomatoes in a glass bowl as part of prep, chances are you get a few annoying large and stringy tomato fragments in your monastery lentils. so our advice is to use diced or to consider cooking substantial longer and only adding parsley with ~30 (or less) minutes cook time remaining.
  9. may have been a mistake, but am thinking use in the reagan campaign is a big reason why the song is used so wrong by so many. is a whole bunch o' protest songs we enjoy and is discouraging to reflect and realize how relevant so many is today no less than when penned. farm aid song from 80s. keep in mind we grew up on a small ranch, so the 80s farmer sufferings hit us where we lived. and a couple more from earlier decades. am not a beatles fan, but the blackbird song is an exception. the nina simone version o a billy taylor song were used in a super bowl commercial a few years past- one o' the top highlights o' the game for us. all is as timely in 2020 as they were in 80s or even 60s. HA! Good Fun!
  10. Fauci gets frank about Trump: ‘I can’t jump in front of the microphone and push him down’ is another covid-19 story which appears to nevertheless be paywall protected. looks like it is at msn as well https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/fauci-gets-frank-about-trump-i-cant-jump-in-front-of-the-microphone-and-push-him-down/ar-BB11yEAg “We sit down for an hour and a half, go over all the issues on the agenda,” Fauci said, adding that the group also discusses what they want to emphasize to the public that day before meeting with Trump. “Then we go in to see the president, we present [our consensus] to him and somebody writes a speech,” he explained. “Then he gets up and ad-libs on his speech. And then we’re up there to try and answer questions.” am thinking for the moment fauci is not gonna be fired as even trump needs know how bad that would look. however, fauci is scaling up his overt resistance to some o' the President's more egregious misrepresentations. is only a matter o' time before an immovable object must give way to the p00p hurling orangutan with impulse control issues in an ill fitting suit who is current the chief executive o' the USA. HA! Good Fun!
  11. fact it is so complete misunderstood by so many makes it our favorite. song 'bout vietnam veterans screwed over by their government becomes a patriotic anthem? other notables HA! Good Fun!
  12. will need to check it out as we always thought it were an almost criminal oversight to not include any version o' the song which inspired the name o' the game title. another curious absent song from the fo catalog HA! Good Fun!
  13. recommended apocalypse playlist. say what you will 'bout the game(s), the song list(s) is strong. following is a noticeable absent track from an obsidian addition to the ip: @Azdeus you mentioned the alcohol shortage? perhaps your body doesn't know how to handle such a consistent low blood-alcohol. drink more and see if things improve. ... not serious advice btw. feel better. HA! Good Fun!
  14. Nightly Met Opera Streams tonight is a good offering, even if you ain't russian. this coming week will be all wagner. HA! Good Fun!
  15. has already been covid-19 delays o' a few SCOTUS and fed appellate cases which relate to trump issues. in a criminal trial, where one needs confront accuser and finder o' fact will be called 'pon to decide truthfulness o' witnesses based on their witness demeanor while being questioned, am understanding the need for live and in person court proceedings. no good alternative given legal and practical limits. where issues is legal and not factual, technology should be able to overcome any health concerns. is no reason for persons to be in physical proximity to deal with legal questions. sure, we expect hiccups getting technology to work, particular as so many judges and Justices is older and as susceptible as they is to covid-19, they is, as a group, even more at risk to the weird old person autofail disease related to anything as modern and complex as a microwave oven ui. covid-19 is lame excuse but is real in short-term. such delays o' appellate and SCOTUS cases should be taking only as long as required to streamline tech such that even judges and Justices can manage. HA! Good Fun!
  16. aren't most o' the highways leading in and out o' denver containing stretches with little more than a laughable guardrail between you and oblivion? is not even road shoulder in a few such places. white line for edge o' road is 'bout a foot away from guardrail, or so it seems when driving. we got some kinda weird genetic flaw which makes us callous indifferent to heights. am knowing how even short falls may be lethal but is as if our brain refuses to take such stuff serious. were a helpful (maybe not) attribute while we were working roofing many years past, but at this ages such narrow stoopid has us doing foolish stuff with ladders which don't resonate 'til after we is back on terra firma and reflect for a moment. HA! Good Fun!
  17. am not a doctor, but unless you also had a fever, am thinking covid-19 chances is kinda low for what you describe. that said, if happened to Gromnir as you describe, we would mention to a doctor rather than rando boardies. sleep apnea came to mind when you described, but self-diagnose is foolish particular if it leads to not getting medical advice. HA! Good Fun!
  18. well, the karma part for ron might be misplaced, but it is worth noting how rand were one o' only two senators who voted against the recent coronavirus relief bill, and rand forced a vote on a last minute amendment complete unrelated to coronavirus which delayed the bill. so argue karma for rand, while unnecessary in our mind, avoids your criticisms. might wanna call rand diagnosis irony, but is actually coincidence. fact some might consider it to be justice as well as coincidence kinda puts it square in karma territory, no? also, like it or not, am thinking if karma is a thing it would prove how god/the universe has craptacular aim. far too often the villains go unscathed while those 'round 'em is the people getting smote. perhaps there is karma in the universe, but as often as not it is the innocents vol identifies who is actual targeted by the wrath o' the universe. but again, is a stretch to put rand in same category with abused children and your grandma... though for all you know the grandma is a closeted serial killer and the abused child shoves lit firecrackers up squirrel butts for fun. is how the karma folks look at such inequities, no? aside, so is clear, am not personal wishing a severe respiratory illness on anybody, not even our worstest enemies. one thing being overlooked in all this is what a terrible way it is to die, gasping and unable to to breathe despite struggling to do so. #$%& karma if it uses covid-19 to punish. in any event, as kinda a weekend existentialist, is few things we believe in absolutely. however, we got zero doubts 'bout the following: Life is not Fair. deal with it. HA! Good Fun!
  19. is particular illustrative as paul included death totals from march 17. four days following his vid release, the numbers o' deaths has near tripled. ~5k on 3/17 and ~13k on 3/21. doubling every 3 days represents the kinda exponential growth which is current overwhelming italian hospitals. am baffled by folks who look at extremes taken by chinese, coupled with current situation in italy, who is nevertheless dismissive o' the current pandemic. however, while paul is misrepresenting the dangers o' the disease, he is not wrong 'bout government impulses in time o' crisis. we warned our fellows after 9/11 how in our estimation the single greatest danger we faced were not acts o' future foreign terrorism, but rather the well-intentioned efforts o' our own elected representatives to suspend civil liberties, freedoms which would disappear and never return. we were almost as horrified by the bipartisan patriot act votes as we were by images o' the towers falling. fast-forward to 2020. doj has asked congress to functional suspend habeas corpus, not that Congress has authority to do so. DOJ seeks new emergency powers amid coronavirus pandemic it is ok to be afraid o' covid-19. it is stoopid to do as is ron paul and minimize the dangers o' covid-19. however, you may never get back what you sacrifice today to feel a bit more safe. HA! Good Fun!
  20. apologies for double, but didn't wanna edit previous message. we will observe that while showering is not on the list o' things we feels unmotivated to accomplish, gaming hours have dropped substantial... which is kinda counter-intuitive. we live in a relative underpopulated area. we can take dogs for a walk and when we do we maybe see one or two other folks; is not difficult to keep a large 'mount o' physical distance 'tween us others during such sojourns. so we take dogs for walks and do research with/for a colleague and we make soup. why soup? we like to make soup. makes house smell like soup. soup is good food. we like soup. anyways, am 'bout to run out of chicken and beef stock. thought we would be catching up on all those games we got stockpiled and have barely played. nope. dogs are getting a lotta exercise. for various reasons we won't be able to keep up the extreme dog walking much longer. what to do when we cut back on the walks? can't put a finger on why it is we just don't feel like gaming. HA! Good Fun!
  21. know that you have my sincere hope that you and yours get well soon.
  22. has been best described as herd instinct + fear. during better times, do a little experiment. walk outdoors into a crowded public place and look up. keep looking up and have a friend track how many fellow pedestrians do same as gorgon. there were stories online 'bout panic buying o' tp during their initial coronavirus scare in asia. seeming viral spread from that point. why tp in hong kong? didn't matter 'cause folks noticed emptying shelves and replicated behavior 'til all tp were gone. fear that you would be the person left w/o tp took over good sense o' average persons. stories 'bout tp hoarding were spread 'cross world via internet and the part 'bout panic buying o' tp being the newest sport for ignoramuses failed to gain traction but images o' folks panic buying tp resonated. all you needed were a couple folks to repeat behavior o' panic buy in europe or australia or us and then herd mentality would kick in as people saw emptying shelves and shopping carts laden with tp. HA! Good Fun!
  23. is pretty easy to track dak success as a function o' cowboys ol health. can stick any decent qb behind that ol when it is healthyish and production will not drop. have pointed out how at the rb position demarco murray production in virtual every statistical category were superior to elliot's, including big plays and elliot is a top-tier back. will see something similar at qb if a change occurs and another competent signal caller is brought in to helm the offense. spend big money on dak is a waste with proviso that we do not see another competent qb available. remaining options is quickly dwindling (perhaps gone) and count on the draft is not a good idea. dak is not worth money he is demanding save for recognition dallas didn't take measures to mitigate his loss and is now stuck with a no-win situation. HA! Good Fun!
  24. perhaps never before have so many been relieved to realize they have a runny nose. HA! Good Fun!
  25. U.S. intelligence reports from January and February warned about a likely pandemic were our understanding washington post were lowering paywall for coronavirus, but this one appears to be blocked. if you can find elsewhere, it is worth a read, though am recognizing it won't change minds o' anybody... yet. if situation worsens, then there will be need to blame somebody. "Inside the White House, Trump’s advisers struggled to get him to take the virus seriously, according to multiple officials with knowledge of meetings among those advisers and with the president. "Azar couldn’t get through to Trump to speak with him about the virus until Jan. 18, according to two senior administration officials. When he reached Trump by phone, the president interjected to ask about vaping and when flavored vaping products would be back on the market, the senior administration officials said." if true... am actual kinda hesitant 'bout a story like this. reporters better be absolutely certain o' their source reliability. HA! Good Fun! ps article is now at msn
