  1. Darn. Now I feel urge to create a new thread named "the lie behind the threads about the truth behind the codexian review" just to counterbalance things a little.
  2. Gonna side with Volourn on this one (imagine my horror... ) Everything that could be said about Roxor's review from every viewpoint possible was said in that 40+ pages monster thread. Isn't that enough? Though, if you intended to provoke another round of air kicking about PoE's mechanics/attributes/rp qualitiues/whatever with the same people bringing in the same arguments, why not say it in the title? Edit: typos
...is translation in English really needed? There's nothing of particular interest there to anyone except OP, I swear
  5. For what it's worth, general notion from three RPG dedicated boards I poke in on somewhat regular basis is that BG fetishists hate PoE; BG veterans find it to be kinda okay but requiring loads of additional work to shine; people having vague idea of BG either like it very much or hate it just as much. I don't claim that it's statisitically representative, but notion stands. Edit: typos
  6. ^In addition to the above, "Parable of Wael" quest asks to bury the thing "under the skull of the drake looking east". Giving that north should be upper-right corner of the map, skull looks east alright unlike the rest of the body. Poor bird broke its neck falling.
  7. На глобальной карте север сверху. Не на глобальной карте камера над игроком повёрнута на 45 градусов, так что верхний край, получается, смотрит на северо-запад. А тебе зачем? Pardon my spelling.
  8. I'm not sure such thing is even possible I mean, convincing people not liking something that they actually like it or should like it. I just asked if we can stop calling the thing a **** just because we don't like it since tends to piss off people who actually liked it. It'd do wonders to cure some butthurted around here. Or do you think we need more butthurt? Btw, this applies to the opposite as well, e.g. fanboying and the like.
  9. *sigh* I don't like --> mediocre. You of all people... Let's say it has RTwP combat designed below average level on all accounts and call it a day without jumping to conclusions about overall quality of the game? I don't want to sound ungrateful for all your really hard work and passion you poured into the beta, but you decided you don't like the game long before it was done.
  10. I must've missed the moment when big time gamedev studios started to overhaul entire systems mid production because of preferences of one public beta tester. Oh, well.
  11. Not really. It'd be called Feedback if devs actually cared to read it, but I doubt some of them has the nerve to jump into the pool of vitroil each and every such discussion seems to devolve into. And I can't blame them for it, really. Anyway, most of the game's issues became apparent and were reported since beta, the rest were shouted about within first week after release. They're known. I expect some of them to get fixed in expansion incoming and the others (namely, battle mechanics complaints) to go ignored as I have feeling devs already know what they want to do with their game and it's not going to make Baldur's Gate fetishists (I'm sorry, but some of posters really are) happy.
  12. I have PoE on PotD to finish first. And I must be really suck at the game because it doesn't feel anything like "faceroll" as to middle of the Act 2 which everyone here saying it is. Anyway, consider me convinced to give DA:O another shot. Maybe this time around companions won't frighten me off (yes, it was their fault before!)
  13. It looks pretty much like my kind of game, so I probably just wasn't in the right mood to delve into another one at the moment. Happens from time to time. Actually, I apologize for the line you quoted. It was somewhat of an awkward attack against people praising DA:O, implying that arguing with someone whose mind already made up doesn't lead anywhere. If someone liked any game - it's already not a complete ****.
  14. This entire board looks like such battle for quite some time already. Why not give a little rest to poor Baldur's Gate and argue over DA:O for a change? Btw, I got bored with DA:O within 10 hours, dropped and never felt like trying it again. Would someone try to convince me it's an awesome game? Anyone? On topic, though, PoE couldn't "destroy" any of the Dragon Ages to begin with simply because they're playing in different leagues, let alone have entirely different design filosophies. Comparing them is just not right.
  15. Pillars of Eternity on release had exactly four bugs which could have been called game breaking with certain stretch of imagination, and they only occured with about 50% of players (hardware/os dependant, I guess). Aside from that, there was a honest bunch of minor but annoying bugs. For cRPG of this magnitude I'd call it relatively clean release, and two patches since then cleaned up almost all the mess anyway. As for OP, he has very foggy idea of what he's talking about, so Flouride's post could be applied to him just as well. Maybe it is.
  16. Rights and wrongs are irrelevant here, it's just the traffic going both ways. Roxor's biased about the game, so, let's say, I am biased about his rev... errr, opinion. When someone tells me with a great deal of exaggeration that the thing I enjoyed much is complete and ultimate ****, I feel natural urge to ask him GTFO regardless of constructive criticism he may rely on somewhere further along the road. And Roxor DOES blow things out of proportion. It's not the content of his "review" is inflammatory, it's the form.
  17. *shrug* Yeah, I've seen those videos. Still cannot understand the way in which obvious issue of an AI somehow leads to conclusion about engagement mechanics not doing its job and thus being useless. Maybe if char in second video waited till he actually got engaged he could see for himself whether engagement prevents kiting or not. That said, I'm not advocating engagement here, I just don't mind it there as well as wouldn't mind its absence. You just play it the way you like, mate
  18. It's just the board for RPGists that has a bad fame exactly for things like this review and overall tending to elitism/loudmouthness/hate (choose what you like) of its inhabitants. It does have its atmposphere, though.
  19. Oh! ME topic! Nice. Maybe someone here will be able to give me a hint about the thing. I've played Mass Effect for the first time just recently, three months ago or so, and the game confused me a great deal. I found gameplay decent for what it was worth and liked some of the companions, but the story part literally INFURIATED me to no end by overall B-movie-style stupidity of the main plot and shameless rip-offs from many sources in composing the setting without even trying to add some original flavour to it. It felt like Frankestein's monster, only the dead one. Now I'm not used to such cute reactions from myself about things like games and it left me feeling uncomfortable, especially since there are so many people praising exactly the parts of the game I loathed so much. "To each their own" I thought yet again and decided against trying ME 2-3 and anything else in the series. Could someone give me hint me about differencies between story parts of ME and ME2, if there are such? Maybe I was wrong about decision not to try it? I like sci-fi, after all.
  20. It does. But AI continues to act as if it's there, so personally I don't get the point of this removal. Aside from easy kiting for player party. Voted 4/5. I did enjoy PoE despite its flaws, I couldn't care less about anything else.
  21. Come to think of it, the biggest complain about PoE's main plot applies to this review even without rephrasing: "It raises valid/interesting points, but does terrible job at presenting them". "Codex at its worst" © Matt516
  22. Darth Roxor may be troll or not, but there sure as hell will be plenty of other trolls in this thread soon enough. No wonder you liked this review, Sensuki *stomp*
