  1. Well, for me, that coming together point was two years ago when they released the trailer. That they didn't say anything the first three years of develoment I get and I agree with. But from the moment they released that trailer two years ago, they ought to have been more interactive with their fans about the game. That still doesn't preclude restructurings or changing directions; both Bethesda and Bioware have done exactly that with their big games even while maintaining a line of communication with their fans. That's why I never had any real concern or fear that I was not going to get my Starfield and my DA4. Separately, when was the last time anyone from Obsidian bothered to post in this forum? I feel that interactiveness with us ended right about the time they folded into Xbox. We've not had an active community manager here in years. These things matter to me.
  2. I agree with you here, @BruceVC. And I profoundly disagree with that pcgamer article's pov. In particular: "Without an excess 990 planets or so, Starfield could shroud what it has in mystery. Let me spend hours poring over every tiny detail on a few incredibly detailed planets; let me imagine and speculate about what else is out there. Wondering what's out there is the single greatest thing about space travel and science fiction. The worst is discovering that the answer, 99% of the time, is "another boring rock."" and: "Maybe I'd be less pessimistic if Starfield's aesthetic didn't seem to be a more grounded, far less colorful take on what No Man's Sky has already been doing for years. The montage of planets at the end of Bethesda's footage made me retroactively appreciate No Man's Sky's pulp sci-fi cover (opens in new tab) art style even more." are things I completely disagree with. Todd Howard has repeatedly claimed Starfield is in part a NASA space exploration simulator. That is exactly the huge draw of this game for me. I *want* to play in a NASA "open star system" sandbox. I *want* that realism very much. I want that for every one planet I discover with vibrant life there are a hundred other planets that are empty and dead. And I absolutely do not want that ridiculous pulp sci-fi art style, and love how things look in this game. I want this game to be a space exploration sim, just as much as I want it to be an RPG. And as such, I want it to be as realistic as possible.
  3. Here's the latest I've been able to gather: https://wccftech.com/avowed-has-had-a-reboot-of-sorts-and-may-be-further-away-than-anticipated-rumor/ https://www.aroged.com/2022/06/13/what-happened-to-obsidians-avowed/
  4. Seems conveniently limiting. Why not also look at Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan? And in Somalia, in the elder Bush's initial intervention in 1992, academics agree the intervention saved a minimum of 1 million people from starving to death.
  5. To ease the burden for @Keyrock Also, this game has gone through a restructuring of sorts over the past several months, which you can read about in their recent Steam updates: https://store.steampowered.com/app/919360/Alaloth_Champions_of_The_Four_Kingdoms/
  6. Interesting. But to @Theonlygarby's point, I agree there is no way physically to allow a person to explore the whole of even one small-sized planet let alone 1000. Even a planet like Mercury's surface area is vast enough to make it impossible within an open world game to allow the exploration of every square inch of Mercury's surface. So "go anywhere" on any of these planets, to me, does not literally mean we can explore every square inch of that planet's surface. It will still be about exploring specific discreet locations on that planet. This is why the very term "open world" is something I've always had a huge issue with, because it is obviously a giant exaggeration and a misnomer.
  7. I'm with you, @Wormerine, but the OP has a valid point. Apparently the game has been in development for almost five years. We got the vague announcement trailer two years ago. Then nothing. Complete silence. Not even tiny bits of info dropped here and there. Any and all comments about the game have come from either Xbox or from gaming journos and "insider" leakers. Obsidian has said literally nothing. And I for one believe that is not a proper way to do a game development. Yes, you don't reveal too much and you certainly don't make any promises. But you should definitely keep your diehard fans in the loop at least a little bit. This was Obsidian's way previously, to always be close to their fans, but after becoming part of Xbox seems to me like they've developed a certain arrogance and superiority complex and now see themselves as above their fans.
  8. This was exactly what I was going to say too. Even as recently as this April the big Xbox head guy said multiple times Avowed was coming along great and he was looking forward to revealing more about the game. So what happened since April?
  9. I would absolutely love it if you are correct about this, but my understanding is that the Tuesday show is for more in-depth exploration of what was shown today. So I was thinking a series of discussion panels and possibly interviews with gaming news media.
  10. I get what you guys are saying. But tbh, it never occured to me to think that when someone says you can explore even one whole planet, let alone 1000, they mean that literally. So I'm thinking of this more as large area "levels" than "planets."
  11. I was pretty happy with what I saw on Starfield. I especially love all the customization, including for the ship, and base-building, and crafting ... all good. And I'm very happy we will get third-person gameplay option. That's huge for me, and I hope someone at Obsidian is paying attention to this too. And I have not got any sense from the game thus far that the 1000+ planets we can explore will be "empty."
  12. This was a very recent reveal from some insider. Something to do with losing directors back to back and also their lead narrator. And since the showcase emphasized these are the games to be released in the next 12 months, that means Avowed release is now second half of 2023 at the earliest and more likely 2024. https://www.techradar.com/news/massive-xbox-rpg-allegedly-suffering-significant-development-delays
  13. Romance with Iron Bull has some of the best dialog lines with your companions. I'll leave it at that.
  14. Glad you're enjoying it so far. I liked it too. But as far as that huge area early on goes, just as so many others have said, don't get "trapped" in that area doing everything there all in one go. Do some stuff, then leave the area and go do other things before returning to that area. And make note of the respawning trash mob locations and try to avoid them in the future (unless you're into refighting trash mobs again and again). And don't avoid the war table quests. Some of them are quite good and fun.
  15. To be honest I would love that. I firmly believe that when war is inevitable, it is better to fight that war sooner rather than later (or more specifically, on our terms rather than on the other side's terms).
  16. This fits in the science thread as well: https://arstechnica.com/science/2022/06/russia-and-germany-are-fighting-over-an-x-ray-telescope-in-space/
  17. Yeah I use a lot of mods in my game. I have only one colony because I play only for the colony-building and resource management elements of the game. So I keep reloading the map until I get a map I like for my game, and I turn off all catastrophes. Then I play until I get bored with my colony, so I've never ever completed the game.
  18. I'm a little surprised by your experiences. I really like the game and play it quite often. And things generally work pretty well for me with a solid, well-developed colony (I always only build a single colony). And I haven't bought the two most recent DLCs. Re. what happened with your colonists, maybe they couldn't reach your other dome for some reason, either before they went into the uninhabitable dome or after? Turning off a dome should automatically move all colonists out of it, so long as they can reach another dome that allows them access. I have done this myself, when I want to demolish an old dome. Never lost any colonists. Re. AI prioritization, yeah that is hit or miss because you will have a lot of things at the same level of priority and the AI then just randomly decides what it wants to do. So I usually keep everything at the lowest priority setting, and only assign higher priorities to very select few things to ensure they get prioritized.
  19. I'll blame it on the weeds. I have a good-sized flower garden (my other hobby) and I had spent two hours pulling weeds yesterday evening where my whole body was wracked with pain so much so that I couldn't even drag myself to my computer to check email. Did that only this morning.
  20. Thanks! I guess I'll wait to pick it up on sale then.
  21. Dammit. You always manage to beat me to the Solasta announcements.
  22. @melkathi, thanks for your review of Expeditions: Rome. It's a game I am seriously looking into right now. Any changes to your feedback about the game in the past few months? I see that they did a major revamp of the strategic battle system. The combat seems meh, but I would be playing it mainly for the roleplaying and especially the base-building, resource management, and companion development elements. So any further thoughts (including from others)?
  23. There's also the new game Old World, a combination of CK3 and 4X strategy games.
  24. Latest from both the east and south of Ukraine (it's a lengthy AP wire service story): https://news.yahoo.com/russia-puts-more-strength-behind-123926831.html
  25. What do you guys think of this interview? Is this actually a good use of game development resources?
